He had them the minute they walked in the door. They were acting like the shadiest idiots on Earth. If you notice he doesn't take his eyes off of them when he hands back the stuff. He knew they weRe going to pull something. Also I guess when you handle something every day you get to know the feel of it, like generally people who handle cash every day can feel even the best fake note straight away.

+Sheri Owens All these shops should have a rule that every time an item is touched by the seller after being tested, then the buyer has to go through ALL the tests again. Post this policy right on the front window. Then the buyer wouldn't have to deal with most of these clowns in the first place.

+SaintsTantrum People who handle cash every day can feel even the best fake note? Not true at all. In fact, it's the ones who handle cash all day that you want to scam with counterfeit $$$. They hardly pay any attention to the money, other than counting it. I was a bartender for 10 years, I know this.

I feel like it's a bit of both crossing thier fingers that somehow hopefully the fake stuff would pass givin the pad/stone he's using just had real gold on it a.k.a., hoping for a f*cking miracle but also they're both trying to watch the test carefully in order to come up with a way to get the fake chains to pass each test at the next pawn shop. The hard part is, it's a surface strength/scuff test followed by a chemical agent being applied. You'd have to be one hell of a scammer to foolproof that sh*t.

The chances of either of those things happening are very slim. The sellers have the advantage when switching because they have the jewellery and can get a fake replica. The buyer needs to be very lucky to have something looking identical at hand. As for the cutting a couple of links, as long as they leave it on the counter that he's working on like this one did then there is literally no chance of pulling that off unless the seller was paying 0% attention, no slight of hand would be able to pull that off unless they took it out of sight.

Not all pawn brokers are on the up and up. I recognized the area of Chicago referenced. South side. This may even be the same shop that tried to rip me off. I brought in a 1 pound ingot of .999 silver. The clerk guy took it and inspected it. He asked me if I had the original receipt. I said, no. He then immediately picked up the phone, dialed operator, and asked to be connected to the police. He expected me to run out the door, leaving the silver behind. So, after about 1 minute, he saw that I was not running away, and he paid me. He is just as much a thief as the shitbags just featured in this video.

I have to agree with the other guy, I think you were just being tested. Most of the time, the way to out a person doing something suspicious is to have them think they've been caught. The logic is that a person with no guilt won't be worried. Of course, it doesn't always work like that. Sometimes, a person with nothing to hide just doesn't trust that others will recognize their innocence, especially if they've been falsely accused before.

They're not scammers, no one forces you to sell it cheap, you can sell on offerup for more. You go to pawn shops to get quick cash, not so you can make profit. You want profit, then take the time to wait and sell on Craigslist. I can guarantee you, your local pawn shop owner isn't even taking home 100k, probably 50k after bills on both the business and his own personal expenses are paid.

Not to mention that he said they just drove off after he grabbed the money and the rings, like they were just so afraid of him that they let him get away without even trying to do anything? Ppl who scam for just $20 dollars a pop aren't gonna have $20,000 in cash on them and certainly not just sitting in the backseat of the car. Except for maybe him getting scammed for the $20 nothing about the story is believable. He's probably a kid who's not even married but who knows? I could be wrong lol

I don't condone what these crooks did but if think about It. I wonder how many pawnshops and gold buyers prey on low income people that need fast money to put food on the table cause of a situation and these places low ball them cause they know their weak. I'm just saying it's ok for them to prey on weak people but not weak people to prey on them. double standard in a way but I guess that's how they make their money and it's up to the weak not to go to these places and do business with people that genuinely screw them in a way to make their money.

Family owned pawnshop for 30 years you can tell just by looking at it if it's plated or solid gold the texture, and color looks different he spotted it wasn't real the 2nd time but the acid test was just to confirm he knew. You test gold all day long get to know what your doing those guys hope to find a new employee who isn't monitored when we had a new employee he wasn't allowed to buy any gold worth more the $20 without one of us checking it over. Several pawn shops got scammed by fake gold coins inside plastic cases we always told anyone have to remove the coin and acid test if they refused just pass on pawning or buying it. You can't keep their stuff or ID it's not against the law to try and sell someone fake gold doesn't matter that he swapped it out he didn't tell the guy it was the same that's just the game can't get butt hurt over it.
