with my Australian Shepherd Finnegan at my side we hiked along the north shore of Lake Erie (yes, not a sea) until we came upon a good spot to have a sit down and make a carving of the classic old salty fisherman
the wood is Basswood and i started from a 2x2.5x7" piece .Axe is a Kalthoff and the main knives were Drake and OCCTools. If you like this kind of thing please hit the subscribe button and make sure the notifications are on for more to come, thx

Right?!! So the scoop is..I had my Kelly kettle in my backpack as well as a new coffee and was really looking forward to it but you may see as the wind picked up so did the waves and I was running out of real estate quick and had to hurry up and get out.regardless ,on the way back I was walking along the cliffs in the water in spots 😁

...that's what I was thinking too, lol....ahh, a nice day at the beach, thanks Doug, now you have to carve, Sadie
You just proved no one needs a workshop to carve, what a great idea whittling in the wilderness ( ;
I'm amazed, at 56 you have inspired me to carve, I enjoy watching your videos, and have made several bird feeders and several ornaments and hillbillies, I've learned a lot from you .....thank you Doug!
This is one of my all time favorites. Beautiful to watch and Lake Erie sounds magnificent, thanks for bringing us along🌞
love the sound of the waves on the beach
Love the sun shining on the water.
Enjoyed! Before 9/11 our scout troop used to have two planned campouts in Ontario. One at Point Pelee about April 17th for smelt dipping and the other at the Pinery Provincal Park in September. Your video reminded me of how beautiful Canada is and how sorry I am that we had to stop those trips because of the re-entry process of bring 70 plus kids packed into a dozen vehicles a logistical nightmare. The other trip the older boys enjoyed was the canoe trek from the scout base way above Northen Minnesota. Discovered the hard way that Portages between lakes often met carrying the canoe over a small mountain. Thanks for doing the video.
Beautiful!! Thank you for taking us along.
This is what it’s all about, enjoying the moment.
Old Salty is very charming❣️
Keep doing your craft. When I have a good project I dont need a lot of other things. Im sated. Glad to meet Old Salty.
Last time I carved a wood spirit by following your tutorial, I cut my thumb about an inch. Cannot wait for it to heal, so I can try again. Thanks for your excellent content, I appreciate your effort you put in all your videos, Doug!

Thanks for sharing Doug!
Doug, sure would like to Old Fisherman see this video as a tutorial. I, like others, would get so much more out of the "how to" carving. Keep up the great videos.

You get a mix - you want a tutorial because you carve but many don’t and just like to watch.

@@dougLinker Doug, your tutorials got me back into carving after 37 year pause.. Those that "just watch" question whether they too have the ability to take up carving because you make it look so easy. As you have said many times in your videos, it's easy to change types of hats, beards, etc on your carvings. The real question is how many people took up carving because of your tutorials and your presentation style. Bottom line, your tutorials are great.... keep it up. I look forward to each one you produce. Suggestion... on one of your Wednesday live casts ask the question the number of people that just watch for the intertainment and those that actually use your tutorials to attempt to carve. That would give you the feedback you need.
Beauty, craftmanship along with the backdrop of the water. Thanks Doug
Someone with your creativity and skills must have built some amazing homes over the years. Such a relaxing video, thanks for sharing.
Got my coffee ,up popped a Dougie video what a good Sunday morning for me
Started watching in Porto Vecchio, Corsica, with a glass of rosé, paused because we had to catch a flight. Continued last night, near Antibes, France with a glass of whiskey but paused to play Whist with the family. Finally have a cup of coffee this morning to watch the rest. Love your videos Doug.
Great job of that old sea dog👍👍👍
as always a pleasure to watch and in such a lovely location.

I legitimately fell asleep at one point, the sound of water puts me at peace. Being from the east coast I'm used to hearing the water, but the novelty never wears off. Cheers.
he's wonderful! thank-you
Love watching you turn out these carvings!
What a beautiful setting and wonderful sound of waves. Doug, I seem to not have enough hours in the day and admire how you manage to do all these great vids while holding down a job, do part-time work at the church and have family time. Thank you!

Great video as always , Doug, I did miss the cowboy coffee 😁. Thank you for your contribution to the whittling community.
Friggin awesome! Truly. Almost wished I was there watching this unfold. The sea rises 32ft each tidal shift more here than it does there.
Thanks Doug, very peaceful in this troubled world, however i missed seeing old salty staged on the shore looking out to sea and u talking to him or for him!

What a FANTASTIC studio you had for yourself here. I love watching you take a blank of wood and carve Old Salty into it. Beautiful job
These always make me smile
Hi Doug - I like your basement productions much better. The detail provides a much better tutorial which enables me to reproduce. I usually modify the carvings after I learn your base technique but this version just makes it harder. Thanks as always. Ron
