    Hey! Love your videos, I started carving about a year and a half ago in lockdown as a pass time and I started to really get into it so I thought about buying a kit but when I looked at the price I realised I definitely couldn't afford it so I'd like to know how you afford things like your s50 I would like to know things like if you mainly use the money you make from KZread or if you have a day job as well or if you just had to save for a long time.

    Hi, I am new to carving and I am wanting to buy some palm chisels, Many people on youtube are really pushing Flexcut. I own their detail knife, their skew detail knife and a micro "V" tool. I am not sure I want to spend $100.00 for 4 flexcut palm tools I might not like. I like the feel of the small handle but not the flexing of the metal shaft when I apply pressure on the tool . I have been considering buying the Beavercraft Palm chisel set on Amazon because they look much more sturdy (Shaft wont bend). I am just a bit nervous about the purchase as the blade looks thin where it enters the handle. I am also not sure if they will hold up to harder woods like Cherry, Maple and Walnut with out breaking. They look good and the price is right at $70.00 on amazon. I am a Disabled Vet on disability so price can be an issue. I am also considering buying their C17P Universal pro detail knife. Have you ever used this knife. Any way. can you help me make up my mind. I want to buy these tools but I am just a bit on the fence and need a little guidance. I would love to see more of your videos where you use the Beavercraft palm chisel set. Thank you for your help.

    For someone looking to whittle smaller detailed products, would you recommend getting the kn53 or the kn13 and 14? is the kn53 versatile enough to be both a roughing and detailing knife? Or maybe something entirely different like the KN500 3-Knife Starter Set? Just hoping to get your input :)

    @@CarvingisFun hard, I agree. Lol. Last time we chatted, I was in a tool shed whittling every night. I still have the pieces you sent me, and a Ryobi flex shaft now. I bounce between wood and gem carving and polishing too. Are you into that kinda stuff? I wasn't until I tried it, and on days I don't have a push to carve, I have the second hobby to switch to. I feel like you are prolly amazing at carving rocks. I almost feel like you've talked about rock carving? I might be crazy though. Lol. it was really just a bunch of patience. The entire video was about 3 to 4 hours long, with 2 to 3 hours of it being just making the holes. I just started in the center and started to make deeper and deeper triangular cuts from both directions until they met and had a hole in the middle. then I started to widen from there to make the desired shape.

    Hey man I just bought a carving kit from beavercraft. I bought a strop as well assuming that was alll I needed. but holy crap this knife feels unusable. I don't think I'm a weak person but I cannot cut through this wood no matter what angle I go at (with the knife and with respect to the grain), how much I strop, or how much force I put in. I feel like I'm not even cutting. I'm just brute forcing wood slivers off. I work out and I have pretty strong forearms so I don't think its because I'm weak. Are the beavercraft knives just garbage? I'm ordering a flexicut knife cause trying to carve a little piece of basswood was miserable. took me an hour just to get a centimeter or so shaved off.

  • @CarvingisFun

    @CarvingisFun

    I have recently heard hit or miss with beavercraft stuff, but all the ones I've gotten in were quite nice. Still, flexcut is a step above beavercraft and I do like them better if I feel like affording them. The other aspect is maybe your wood is a bit hard. What wood did you buy? Not all basswood is processed equally and many are really really hard to work with.

    Failure always has such an unnecessary negative emotion applied to the word by society. We are taught not to fail, but this leads to people to not attempt to succeed as well. My background is engineering, without the many failures of development we would have never gotten to where we are today. I fail on a weekly basis, sometimes on a daily basis. But I keep trying something to get past the hurdles to my goal. Even in my carvings my mess ups or failures arent negative. I learn something from them and keep moving forward with new knowlage. Plus, who doesn't like chipping off wood in such a satisfying way? I have a feeling that I need to make a video on this subject....
