Carving a sweet neck, and 2 types of work holding.

This video series takes us from an empty workshop, to a fully operational small shop luthiery operation. I'll show you the jigs and templates I use, how to make your own, with downloadable CNC files, cut lists, and blueprints for each project.

No tabs! This is a great approach

I have never enjoyed cleaning up tabs.

That is some ingenious problem solving! Whoever disparagingly says CNC usage is a case of putting wood in and pressing "print" is missing all this out.

You should see my convoluted fretboard making process! Nothing straightforward about any of it unfortunately. Happy 2021, Chris!

Amen, Chris. I decided to go CNC for repeatability, improved precision, and safety... the less I need to hold a router in my hands, the better. (Also, long time no chat, hope you're well)

Man this is awesome. I just bought my first cnc machine and I dont even know where to start, so your channel is very helpful. Thanks for sharing!

Oh no! Your poor drum sander! What happened to it? I don't have a CNC, but I'm gonna stash this video away for when I do, that's some clever work holding.

there is a sprung pin that was engaged to stop the drum rotating and open a clip to hold one end of the sandpaper, and it didn’t retract when I thought it had. so it destroyed that clip when I turned the machine on. it was designed to be pressed together, so taking it fully apart is next to impossible. the metal is soft, so trying to remove the bearings just crushed the soft metal instead. I think I’ve flushed $1300 down the toilet.

@@TempleGuitars Oh man, that's sad news and an expensive design flaw by the sounds of it. Is it just the drum itself that's been affected? I'm wondering, if you sit with it for a while, whether a MacGyver-esque solution will present itself 🤞 If not (and given how much you seem to enjoy making your own jigs and tools) there are some decent DIY drum sanders that I've seen; could use the remaining parts to make your own. Highline Guitars' one is clever, and Susan Gardner's one is also good, both here on YT. Hope you find a solution, anyway!

Thanks Luke. As you say, hopefully a solution will come to light. I'll give it some time and see what I can think up.

@@TempleGuitars My spring clips broke on an old Ryobi thickness sander last spring. The Carbatech/Ryobi models (WDS4080P/WDS1600) are identical and can use the Grizzly parts (US). Search Grizzly for the SKUs: P0716210, P0716217, and P0716215. I hope that helps!

Thanks for the heads up! Carbatec also have access to replacement parts, so I'm trying there first.
