Carve a Rooster from a Branch

For my fist time carving wood, I follow the well known whittle Chris Lubkemann's design and carve a rooster from a tree branch.

    dry wood will curl better than wet/green wood -it’s a fun project!

    Bonjour Laura, merci pour votre vidéo. Pour faire votre coq n’ayez crainte de prendre de plus longs morceaux. Car en cas de mauvaise manœuvres, il vous reste de la matière pour vous rattraper. Notamment lors de la crète du coq. Cela m’est arrivé plusieurs fois 😉. Vous aurez plus facile d’amincir le haut de la tête comme si bien expliqué par Chris Lubkemann. Bonne continuation, Michèle

    Hi Laura. You did a great job, and better than my first attempt with a better branch too lol. I don't think every one has to get curls in the tail, and though it looks nice yours looks nice too. I am not a great whittler, but every now and then something amazing finds its way out of the wood I'm whittling and despite my best efforts to ruin it, it emerges triumphant. X

    I have two Flexcut knives; one roughing knife and one detail knife. They were recommended and are very nice.

    That is so weird I just started trying carving last weekend and I have a knife just like that in the mail on the way…. I have a rooster too ! 🐓 he turned out adorable!!!! I need to try that instead of having my hopes up on a Santa Claus Christmas ornament ! Lol

    Don't worry about one leg being shorter...Just name him, Eilene... Your other knife looks to be a Solingen #58...Great steel in that blade. Should be able to sharpen it enough to shave the hair off a gnats legs
