When I was 6 I saw someone selling wooden ducks carved out of wood. I went up to them an ask "How do you make ducks out of wood?" They looked at me and said "Well, you start by cutting away everything that isn't a duck..."

The term "whittlin' " always reminds me of the tiny canoes, and little people, that my dad makes occasionally. He always acts like he's not creative but I think it takes quite a bit of creativity to turn a stick into a little man's head wearing a park ranger type hat. Also, special thanks to Jeff, TheCrafsMan's adventurous friend, doin' crazy wild stuff.
Important thing to remember when doing this: it's a skill and your first attempt may well end up botched but don't be discouraged because you get better every time you whittle.

Crafsman got the shakey artist hands that I got. Crafsman so relatable.
I live in PA, and I met Chris when I was a young kid playing Indoor Soccer in middle school. He also shows up at the PA Farm Show every year, and he is a delightful gentleman. He even gives lessons!
Craftsman always makes me feel better, no matter how long of a day, or how worn out I am. He soothes the mind with his gentle voice and genuine passion for what he is doing combined with the double whammy of the creation of crafts.
As a sufferer of depression, I’m so glad I found your channel. You have no idea how much your videos bring peace. You deserve every success, you are a real blessing from God. Thank you Crafsman.
*I have a lot of subscriptions that I watch everyday, but there's one thing different about when I watch you...I smile every time one of your videos start.*

Crafsman, thank you for demonstrating cutting away from yourself and not toward your thumb or hand. I keep seeing people cut toward their own thumbs. I have cut myself every time I tried that “hold knife with your fingers and cut toward your thumb” technique. Every single time.
“His name is my dad.” Crafsdad! “Very nervously come in here...” Me trying to paint small details. 😂
The Cub Scouts teach the kids that the area around where they are cutting is the "blood circle" because that's where you or others can get hurt if you aren't being careful. It's a tiny bit dramatic, but it's accurate. It is also effective in conveying the dangers in a way the kids will remember. My dad taught me how to do basic whittling, and he (in his own style) taught what you're teaching here. Long story short, thank you for the excellent knife safety tips in this video!

I am a Swiss Army knife and I have wanted to crave stuff like this for awhile. I think I will try this project first. I have wanted to crave stuff because of my uncle and my great grandfather. They both worked with wood either as a hobby or as a job. I want to crave because of them I wish they were still here. I will forever miss them. Also you channel is very wonderful. I am very happy KZread recommend it to me.

Crafsman, I’m a long-time woodcarver, SusanAlexanderCarves.com, and I have to tell you I SO enjoyed this video! Especially when you advised them to be safe! Knives cut sharp and fast... both wood and skin. Great job on the rooster and excellent directions. Looking forward to another carving video!
Why is today a wonderful day? Because there's a new CrafsMan video!
When I'm carving stuff, no matter how safe I'm being I always manage to slice myself open. I just accept it at this point. Good thing I heal freakishly fast. Great video as always!
