Dave, great carving. Took me some time but you published this in 2010, issue 53.

Excellent! One of my all-time favorite projects from a 1x1. Would love to see Mr. Dave do his "Little Hombre" one day too. Cheers.

Dave, Am a beginner and really admire your finished carvings. Just great! However, you need to “say it better” with your instructions. Most beginners do not have a band saw, but most have excellent knives, pretty good basswood, a decent strop, and even a Harbor Freight inexpensive belt sander to help keep our flat blade grind sharp instead of the beveled bladed ones, though Flexcut is an excellent choice for beginners. Am speaking only for me with deep respect for your carving skills, I need you to tell me what the measurements are for this Santa. I couldn’t find a pattern to download but my fault in not locating it. But, back to step by step instructions, as a beginner I need this. Slow, easy has always worked for me when trying to learn new things. So, for me, more measurements and laying them out as you go along would be a great step forward for me. Again, this is a positive note for your skills as a carver, but critical construction to help those less skilled. By the way, I am 85 y.o. with less than 15 months or so of carving and most things still work. I want to be able to carve this Santa and your help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks….

Hi Charles! Welcome to the carving community! Hope you find the joy in making things as much as I have. I can't speak to the dimensions, but I can say that he's given us an outline on graph paper that could come in very handy with respect to dimensional parameters. Knowing most standard graph paper comes in 1/4" increments, you should be able to extrapolate the dimensions from his drawing. And even if you used graph paper with another incremental dimension, the scale should, still, work based on his drawing. Hope this helps! And, again, welcome to the wonderful world that is woodcarving!

Great video. I went to the page but could not find the community tab so I can't find the pattern. It seems I'm a better carved theme computer operator. Hahaha. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
