CART is in Vogue again... and its Awesome!

Ойындар

I must be dreaming. Seemingly out of nowhere, we have what is shaping up to be a very nice retro CART sim in Automobilista 2. Although the 3 announced seasons are a little close for my taste, I am beyond excited for what we're getting and hope its success plants the seed for even more to follow. Spiced up with the new capabilities to add custom driver rosters/ratings and this is very nearly sim heaven. I eagerly await oval racing and if Reiza can pull it off... well... you may be seeing more of me than my family sees me.
Its just Cleveland and 1998 for now, but I am satisfied with the product thus far, a couple minor tweaks and its nearly a 5-star for me.

@@Gamebit257 I think modern sims merit comparison, but the true ways they differ is in feel, and a video just can't convey that without a lot of commentary (which GPL is actually quite adept at giving haha). I guess to that end, I'd like to see Indycar 2 vs. CARTFactor vs VRC 1999 vs AMS2. Not trying to dump on your idea, just CART Precision Racing is so wonky that I don't think it deserves a place at the table. CPR was actually the first I ever heard of CART and got into Indycar, but it's just not worth anything more than a goofy retrospective, which we already got.

I had the special opportunity in 2003 to have a all access pass to the cart race at portland international. Just before the start of the race, Mr. Paul Newman was standing mid track and about 100 yards from the start/finish line. And ignoring the repeated and emphatic disapproval of my liaison, I approached Mr. Newman. I probably said something to the effect of, “oh fuck no, i can’t miss this opportunity.” I approached him with respect and understanding he was a private man and made my greeting and request brief. Mr. Newman looked me up and down and said, “ok, make it quick.” End result, I have a picture of Paul Newman and myself, Mr Newman looking like my short-cool grandpa and me with a big shit eating grin. Cart will always be special to me. RIP Paul Newman. RIP CART. RIP Newman-Haas.

Yes, the bumps here definitely get your attention. For road courses, of course, there's Mid Ohio. It could be interesting, with 1995 being the last year of the interim layout at Laguna Seca. Just something a little different. For street circuits, definitely the 1995 Vancouver track. That place was just so fast, and quite good in the racing department, too. Regarding ovals from the period, New Hampshire, Gateway, and Michigan seem like good choices to give a wider mix. The 1986 Indy Cars were certainly distinctive in road course and short oval configuration with those giant rear-wing end-plates. Just recalling the 1985 season, fortunately and unfortunately, given who just passed. Glad Big Al lived to see the 4th man join the 4-Time Club, though.

Another great video as always. I did try the download but think I'm going to wait until we do actually have the ovals before buying. I've seen a few of these AMS2 cart videos recently and they are all positive. Mike from Sim Racing 604 thought it was an awesome addition as well. I really can't make my mind up about AMS2, for me it's a love hate thing and after an hour or so I usually end up back on Assetto Corsa. I think the problem is the majority of circuits are little known South American ones and there are virtually no mods for it so basically if what you want is not part of the original Reiza package then you are not going to get it.

Hey GPLaps, The 24 hours of Daytona is coming up, and there is a lot of GT and DPI related content on Automobilista 2, do you think you could do maybe a 3 hour stint of the race in a GTLM car?

I know you are more of a vintage fan, but have you tried iRacing IndyCar AI yet? I found Long Beach to be a blast, but the oval sides seems a little off. May be my settings though.

Between the Player's drivers was it Carpantier ahead of Moore, or Moore ahead of Carpantier at the end? As for the helmets maybe a little low as well as small.

Just had a day on R3E - my first since R3E updated their FFB - and it's good, but the new Default+, tuned right on AMS2 is - going to say it - better. Really, really, good road feel and connection with the car. Both good, but think AMS2 just edged it :)

Personally I would prefer the 1997 season but I realize that coding two more chassis (Eagle and Penske) would have been a lot more work, so this is good.

Penske actually ran its own cars through the end of '99, though I'm more bothered by the lack of Goodyear tires to be quite honest. Won't be an issue with the 2000 cars (as that was the year after Goodyear quit) but if Reiza doesn't manage to get the Goodyear license for the '95 cars (Only a couple full-season teams ran Firestones in what was that brands's comeback year)...oof...

I bought AMS2 when it came out. It was half finished product IMO. Sporadically I checked what state is AMS2 in and was always disappointed. I never came to grips with it's driving model. But in the last half year, newer cars are more drivable, more enjoyable, but sadly older cars are still a mess. Maybe with a good setups they would be better. With Racing USA2 release, these cars are a joy to race with. I can understand what the FFB is trying to tell me, and I am having so much fun now. AMS2 came a long way. If they could polish older cars (and bugs with older cars) it would be what "AMS2 was meant to be".
