Carrying A Ranger Out Of Lockhart Basin
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Got a call for a Ford Ranger with a broken front coilover out on Lockhart Basin Road. The customer wanted us to go get the vehicle and get it out while they ordered parts and they could repair it but it would be out of that remote of an area. So we went in with Ol Blue and the scrambler. We took an extra 10 gallons of fuel with us to be sure we had enough. It was a very long drive into them. On the way out Blue ran out of fuel first, so we put 5 gallons in. Then the scrambler ran out about 10 miles from the trailer, so we put a couple gallons in it. Then we loaded the scrambler and the ranger on the gooseneck and started driving Blue as far as we could. Once it ran out we just left it, then Shawn and Mike came back in the morning and drove it back. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Thanks for the tow guys! For those wondering, the coilovers had a hard 70k miles on them so it wasn't too much of a suprise when it broke. We actually took it out and welded it back together( if you look at the shaft at 5:26 you can see whats left of the weld from the briefcase flux core welder). It made it a few more miles like that then broke again and thats when we decided to call rory. He was gracious enough to let us keep it in his yard for a few days while we waited on the parts to come in. We fixed it and then drove it 1800 miles back home to the east coast with no problems. 5 star rating, would use this buisness again lol

Could be wrong but seems he's been doing this and this specifically before he recorded it, before sponsors and outside recognition. Fishing people out of the rocks with American pushrods, leafsprings, hammers and stick welds. Some of the others I follow came to it from other fields in the past couple years, on road tow, heavy equipment recovery, body shop, one was even TV famous. I enjoy them all for different reasons and they're all different. Though Rory and Co. do some of the most difficult things, they do it on the daily, as ever, and to me at least it's more familiar to my life (though I don't do super hero stuff with my truck much). I love that it is all pig iron, cutting torch and possible to wrap your head around. When I price some of the stuff I see on some of the channels I'm like damn. Rorys stuff is capable and custom but a dreamer could see themselves heading to the pull and pick and getting started. Hope there's still enough of these old trucks kicking around to keep it going another couple decades. At least the diesels you could work on without a degree have seen a lot of inflation. Just fun people in 4x4 parts mecca doing things we wish we could, but not with stuff we couldn't dream of affording or risking damage to. (I know it ain't all cheap but you know what I'm saying) These guys are the real deal.

Hands down my favorite off road recovery team!! Shawn and Mike are the best sidekicks on the tube!!
It's amazing how capable a basically stock square body is. And it's a shame GM hasn't made something like it since.

I will never understand why GM abandoned a solid front axle in favor of IFS, sad that chevy guys have to buy something else in order to get a solid front axle
This recovery is a great example of why you want that big block torque. Nice job guys!
I love the lack of ‘cuss’ words. Even if they’re edited out. Thank you!!

Hope you guys never change or change the dynamic in the show. Some of the other channels seem to have gone more Hollywood and not the same. Keep up the awesome work.

Much respect to Rory and his crew. Y’all respect the land and have a great time doing it. !!!!
Used to watch a few off road recovery channels that are liked to this one. Now trail mater is the only one I still watch.
Last week on the White Rim Trail I met the group that the ranger was traveling with. When I asked them if they had broken anything yet, they told me about the red Ranger. I knew this video was coming. Those guys drove from the east coast to drive a bunch of Moab stuff. That's cool that you had a job just right for the blue tow truck. I love your videos, and this one didn't disappoint.

Welcome to deep thoughts with Shawn on the trail
The Utah Office of Tourism should really be paying you guys for the awesome job you do of promoting the rugged beauty of your state. The scenery shots are amazing on top of the fact that you make what you do for a living so interesting and fun to watch. Many thanks to all of you including the editor. Great job.
I think we all need a Mike and a Shawn narrating our life’s, with a side of Rory wisdom every so often 😂
Ol Blue has some serious torque and traction! Matt would be proud of the gas situation haha
I have heard of "Hot Wiring" a vehicle but not "Hot Wrenching" a vehicle. Learn something new every day! !! !!!
On the technical side, it's probably easy to impress an ignorant like me, but I'm always impressed by the torque and traction of your rigs in difficult terrain. Great video once again, and I never tire of the sound of Blue 😻.
You guys make these recoveries from unbelievably difficult locations look like its all in a days work. Always amazing to watch.
Thanks Mikey for showing us stuff
Big thank you to Rory and his crew for picking up after people who just don't seem to know any better. Look like a pretty good recovery for Blue. Great video! Great watching you guys!

The rear bumper on Blue is amazing and the way you cut the box sides is perfect. I hadn't noticed the the way the box, fenders, and bumper all fit so well. It's like a smooth flow together of the three pieces. Rory designed that whole rearend to perfection. No areas where the tow vehicle is going to damage Blue. Then the setup so that the tow vehicle isn't going to damage Blue. Great filming which shows the two vehicles together and how Blue tackles the rocks
Thats something that people dont apreciate...the amount of hours you guys put in and wihout lunch on these recoveries. Stay safe guys. Geat video.

As usual, great teamwork! Blue did a great job handling some pretty rough terrain, but it is because of Rory's driving skill. And Mike, once again, great shots of the surrounding scenery to allow those of us not in Utah to appreciate the beauty of your area. Shawn, you always make me laugh with your laugh! Glad you all work together so well. It's so much fun to ride along with you.

HEY! Hell yeah! Hello Rory, Mike and Shawn! Thumbs UP!!
It just gets better. Slow and steady wins the race. Reminds me of the old bull/young bull story I grew up with. The young bull and the old bull were standing under a shade tree overlooking the herd of cows down below. The young bull said to the old bull, "Let's run down there and make love to a couple of the ladies." The old bull replied, "Let's just walk down there and make love to 'em all."
And the key to happiness comes in 3/8 drive.
I've been following you bandits for a long time and enjoy all the backyard mechanics and adventures. But what really is impressive is the love and respect for the areas and picking up others trash!
Using that Crescent wrench to turn in the hubs is a classic move Rory. Keep on keepin on.

starting ol blue by a 3/8ths socket is very on brand, lmao
Most KZread car-related shows are about power; Rory and the boys show that torque is king! Ol' Blue is even more capable now he's got lockers!
Chevy pulling out a ford love it

🎵🎶That’s a George of the jungle route. Watch out for that tree!🎶🎵
That’s a Gnarly track for old Blue 💪
@2:23... That rock looks more like E.T.! As for the Monolith... it was placed there for people to talk about.
Wow, the scenery and rock formations there are amazing!
Nice video! Blue is a hard working truck. I like the low profile doors with cup holders.
I was thinking not enough snacks, and Mike's about to get mugged ;)
Can't beat the 454 Chevy in a pulling rig...
Another great recovery by the TRAIL MATER crew! good job!
That was quite the ride, for that one. Long days work. Definitely nice to know there are people like you guys willing to do the job, and do it right! Y'all are going to be hard to replace, when the time comes.. Appreciate all you do, so that we can be there with ya. 👍👍👍
Hey Guys; At minute 2:32, is that Jay Leno? (rock) You'll find him.....Oh and that tree that's NOT a tree ( past video ) is an observation post used for monitoring the poaching of the Diamond Billed Rockpeckers. I really enjoy your videos. Ya make me laugh & I learn a thing or two also. Thank y'all for sharing your adventures with us.
Taking a chapter from Matt’s recovery manual, I see. “How to run out of fuel on a recovery” Now we know how to “borrow” the blue truck if we see it sitting somewhere. Thanks Mike.
I love Lockhart Canyon. Good choice going in the way you did, although it took a lot longer. The other side of that canyon on the Chicken Corners side would have been tough to get that truck out without damage. I don't think ol Blue would have made it through the v-notch area without some side panel damage. It is definitely out in the middle of nowhere, which is one of the reasons I like it. Usually plan a two day trip and camp in the middle somewhere. The stars at night are absolutely incredible out there.
3/8 socket rod as an ignition key, genius Mike.
Another successful recovery job in the books
I love to watch your videos and see all the scenery in your part of the country great job on the video and the recovery
