This was my mother. In 1945 she had that dreaded knock on the door on her 21st birthday, leaving her as a widow and a single mother. She met my dad a few years later and he had an automatic foot in the door because he, like her first husband, was a Navy aviator.

As a two-time military widow who got married a week before I turned 18, this song hits so close to home.

This song was released on July 21, 2008, less than a month before my uncle, who had served in the military before he got married to my aunt (he's my uncle by marriage) died in a plane crash in August of 2008, so I can definitely relate to it. He was a pilot, I think in the Air Force It's literally impossible to listen to it without bawling your eyes out.

This video reflects the Vietnam era based on the vehicle and the fashion and styling of the characters in it. For me that’s always made it somehow more heartbreaking, maybe because sooo many of our servicemen weren’t brought home during that time and due to my personal relationship with that “conflict.” My uncles fortunately eventually all came home but one uncle was a POW for about 18 months and he suffered everyday for the rest of his life due to that experience. 😢 And you’re exactly right, Carrie Underwood is PERFECT! She’s naturally that beautiful and you can see that from her time on American Idol! But she’s also got the sweetest and most humble spirit and obvious strong faith! She’s a woman worthy of admiration!

The line "The guns rang one last shot, and it felt like a bullet in the heart" god that is such a good line.

Having a husband deployed, this is my worst fear with what he is doing ❤️ forever will back him up with what he love to do but this song will always break my heart... I have met a few wives that have had this happen to them. I pray EVERYDAY for the men and women that fight for our country putting family’s on hold giving it all ❤️

June 2nd 1967 my brother gave the supreme sacrifice to his country to keep us free. He was 19 years old at the time I was 9 years old. P F C USMC For his service in Vietnam he received A bronze star with valor and a purple heart. Thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country And please pass it on to your father . GOD BLESS. Carrie Underwood video reminds me of my brother and his last girlfriend who I still keep in touch with.

I wish I could thank him for his service. So I will thank you in his place. My dad and my grandfather on my mom's side were USMC and I am thankful for all that have given there life's for us to remain free.

I saw something once where Carrie said the acting in this was so hard emotionally.

Those gun salutes do feel like a shot to heart and I did hug his flag. Luckily, I had him for over 28 yrs and cancer took him. This song is true. 6 yrs later...it still feels like a dream.

This song means alot to me I lost my husband 7 years ago. He was a veteran!: he passed away from cancer at the age of 60

That IS THE WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD. I will never in the world forget it. 22 years later and I can still feel it. Dammmnnn.. these songs. Uugghhh....

That is one of my favorite songs by them. First time I heard it my heart just shattered.

This song always makes me weepy for my mom. My Dad served 20 years, through both Vietnam and Korea. He passed away from cancer 4 years after he retired from being employed as fire Marshal at Harley Davidson York, PA. So she spends her "golden years" missing him. We all do.

As a military spouse this song gets to my soul. It’s banned during deployments.

Thanks for your service brother. I am a retired 21 year navy chief this song is unfortunately all to real. God bless military spouses they serve to. Receiving a folded flag is a experience that is something that is hard to describe coming for someone who both received and presented.

Aside from featuring video clips of our troops reuniting with their families; Carrie also has scenes of that give a new meaning to the song's title: she has scenes of the memorial for the twenty-six people who were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and the aftermath of the tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma on May 20th, 2013.

06 July 2011 my very small town was notified of the death of a Marine from here. He was my friend's son and my son's friend. Training for a 7th deployment. He'd been married just six weeks. I was a Navy FMF Corpsman for 10 years, I've been doing military funeral services for nearly 30 years now. That to date has been the toughest one I've ever had been a part of. When I hear this song I think of his young bride.

Thiis song always makes me cry

My husband served 24 years in the Army and the hardest thing for him was to knock on that door and tell a young lady the news. He cried the night before. Said the script he was given and told not to touch her. He said he picked her up off the floor and carried her to the couch.

Every military spouses worst nightmare. It's a blessing that my soldier came home but so many others didn't. To all those who received the flag, my heart and prayers go out to you. 🙏❤️♥️❤️

So many songs have been put out about military, that it was definitely time to acknowledge their family and what a family goes through when they lose a loved one.

As a veteran's wife of 42 years (him in the military for 36 years) I know too much how it felt each time he was deployed to so many places in the world and the fear of a Padre, Military Police arriving in a Staff car to present me with news I wouldn't want to hear. I'm so happy now but he was the love of my life and my boys are too. They are musicians just like he was. How are they so alike without knowing him? Prayers for you and your daughter.. time stops and keeps going. It's so crazy.
