Her brother Richard used a choir in this song because it was completed after she had passed away. A lot of tracks were just "work" tracks, so not fully completed. Her voice is so hauntingly beautiful and I wish she had found a true, loving man and had kids like she wanted. She is still dearly missed. Still hoping you react to Karen drumming. She had such joy when she was behind those drums.

She actually recorded this for her solo album that was not ever fully released. Richard took that recording and remixed it her version was shelved until 1996, with the release of her eponymous album, Karen Carpenter. Karen's solo version is far more subdued with only a piano, bass and drums as her accompaniment (have never been able to find who they were). kzread.info/dash/bejne/hn2HqLSSe5yyfrQ.html It was a completed trac ready for release as I said it was released in 1996. I much prefer her version. Richards version had Karen Carpenter from her single, Richard Carpenter - keyboards, Joe Osborn - bass guitar, Ron Tutt - drums, Tony Peluso - electric guitar, Tim May - acoustic guitar, Jay Dee Maness - pedal steel guitar, Sheridon Stokes - flute. Earle Dumler - oboe, The O.K. Chorale - backing vocals. What Vinton sang as the first verse she sang as the second verse and his second verse was her first verse.

Karen had a voice that truly was a gift from God. She was the kind of performer that no matter what you were doing you just had too stop and listen as soon as she started singing. She was taken way too early.

I was very very lucky to obtain her autograph many years ago. She signed an LP record sleeve of one of her earliest albums and underneath her name added a heart crossed with an arrow and two xx kisses along side it. I'm 68 now and it remains one of my most cherished possessions.

As soon as I hear Karen Carpenter's voice, gives me goose-bumps, just so deep and mellow , no one else has had a voice like that. A nice melody to this song. I love her version of This Masquerade-Colin Ward

Beautiful selection Angela. Even though she recorded this relatively close to the end of her life. Her voice was better than perfect. She defined perfection. I hope you choose to select her original Ticket To Ride. Their first "successful" release. When she initially brought her voice to the public it was one of a kind. We are so lucky that we are able to listen to her songs. What a gift she has left to humanity.

Every time I listen to Karen Carpenter sing my heart skips a beat..I actually sat and closed my eyes and just listened to the GOAT female singers..Karen could sing the phone directory and it would be worth listening to. Wonderfully sad and uplifting lyrics..we've all been on this position and wanted to start over with a clean slate..the really sad part is that I think this was released after her death ...oh god just think of all the music we've missed out on.. but I can understand why God wanted her in his choir..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏🎶🎵🇺🇸

Being a huge Carpenters fans I always love your reactions to any of their songs. But I loved this one particularly for the smile it put on your face, as this is a one of theirs that always does that to me. Karen just knew how to emote a song and tell the story, whether that’s a tale of love gone right, or love going wrong. I love the material on ‘Voice From The Heart’, I don’t understand how some songs where cut from their specific album sessions, and the new material (as brief as it was) showed that Karen’s voice was ageing like a fine wine.

Hi Angela! Thanks for bringing Karen’s voice back, it’s been too long. Love seeing you emotional with Carpenters. ❤️ If I may request an obscure Carpenters song for your reaction. It was performed live on The Tonight Show in 1973. It features Karen on drums and this is a song she drummed on the album track. The song is Mr. Guder, written by Richard and John Bettis. There is a short interview segment where Richard explains the genesis of the song. Someone in the comments mentioned you haven’t reacted to Karen drumming. I hope you use this video, even though the quality isn’t great, it’s an awesome example. My heart soars seeing her smile when she’s having so much fun. This is not a downbeat song! kzread.info/dash/bejne/c4RqpZiMYpXQYJM.html

Hi Angela: I appreciate your reactions; and especially your appreciation with the Carpenters, and Karen. I hope you would also react to one of their less known songs called “A PLACE TO HIDEAWAY” - The video where Karen is there singing with Richard in the background on the keyboard. It really shows her mannerisms while singing the song. ❤

For me, this song has such a powerful message. It is about to long time lovers, maybe an old married couple, and the magic has gone. But she sings plaintively, "make believe it is your first time" and the hope is maybe we can recapture the magic. Poinant. Haunting. Sad. And oh so beautiful made more so by Karen's angelic voice.

Actually the song was 9ntended for a teenage female singer and was supposed to refer to making a phone call, but when the adult Anita w=Ward recorded it the meaning was interpreted as more sexual. Ward was working as a teacher (I believe) at the time when this opportunity came around and was a self-proclaimed "churchgoing woman" who wasn't all that thrilled with the new, disco-fied interpretation of the song. But she recorded it anyway and it went to #1, making Ward one of our most notable One Hit Wonder recording artists.

A lot of the songs she sang were sad, but I always felt better after listening to them. Richard could take a mediocre song and make it fantastic she had the ability of taking possession of the lyrics and giving them life. If you do not believe me listen to "Close to You" by the first to sing it Richard Chamberlain (1963 I have never been able to listen to it straight through, but you can try) Then listen to the Burt Bacharach arrangement sung by Dionne Warwick. (1963 it is a little better than Chamberlain's version but not much). Then Dusty Springfield version (1965 better yet but still not good). Then the Carpenters version (1970). You will then realize what made the Carpenters so good. It was Karen's voice and Richard's arrangements. I was intoxicated by them before they were signed with A&M (1966 or 67) and still am. Try "Reason to Believe" This version was done on the 5th Dimension Traveling Sunshine TV special in 1971.not many have reacted to it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYiLx6qefZnTiqw.html
