👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️In this short video a carotid atherosclerotic plaque of the distal common carotid artery-proximal internal carotid artery is imaged using B-mode from different scanning approaches. The video shows how according to the angle of insonation/scanning approach used the resulting B-mode image can range from an occlusive carotid plaque to a non-occlusive but stenosing plaque. It is important therefore to always scan carotid plaques, especially those eccentric, using different longitudinal scanning approaches as well as transverse views. Furthermore, the plaque assessment should always be completed with the use of colour and pulsed wave Doppler to determine any haemodynamic impact of the plaque on the carotid arteries flow.
