    Coming here from knitting bootcamp for crocheters I mastered the stockinetter in stried and have been watching many videos for increase techniques like m1r m1l and lri lli yo and kfb and I feel I can do this one instead of the cowl I feel challenged by this one. The way you did the pattern anatomy made the pattern so easy to follow and getting the idea. You are a great teacher Marly explaining things in your unique way. I am becoming a BiCrafty. I will update when I apply this shawl

    I'm working on the lace part of this shawl now. I put in the lifeline you advised, Marly, and it was a lifesaver! Thank you! I've gone one step further and I'm also using stitch markers to let me know each group of 14 stitches on the RS. Thanks so very much for your awesome instructions. They are always clear, concise, and easy to follow along.

    Highly recommend for that repeat of rows 9 and 10 in the beginning to put a stitch marker on the right somewhere when you’re on the RS so whenever you see it you know to do the K to last 3st, kfb, k2. If it’s on the left you just knit! Can’t wait to get into the lace section. 👍🏻

I read somewhere that if you use dental floss for the life line, it won't distort the work or leave yarn fuss when you remove it. Thanks for your detailed instructions.

    Marly, you are a great teacher! I’ve been hoping for a shawl pattern that I like. I have never done lace before. I am not fond of knitting in garter st - or the look of garter stitch- but I see there really isn’t an option. I have never seen a pattern with purl front and back so you showing it was very helpful...also saying that kfb would work as well is appreciated. Thank you.

I’m glad this became one of my recommendations! I would’ve done the (psso) instead of k3tog. Would the pass slip stitch not lean to the right?? (I will print this pattern up and make notation). Also if I used a fingering weight yarn, could I just repeat the pattern for a longer duration in order to enlarge my shawl, I live in FL and would like it to be light and airy. Thank you so much!!

    Maybe I've missed an update, but what happened to your beautiful studio? I started knitting only last year, I learned a lot from your videos. However, I think I started in the wrong end of knitting, I literally started with colourwork and then moved on to lace. My friend that's been knitting for 4 years has still not ventured into colourwork and only recently started doing lace. I think because I was so new to knitting I didn't realise both colourwork and lace was more advanced than just regular knitting. I've since mostly knitted sweaters and hats for my daughter. I knitted my first pair of trousers a few weeks ago.

    trying this as starting knitter (a bit more than one month) Will start with only 22 stitches, (14+8) so as to start the lace pattern quicker ... am a bit of a rebel :-D I suppose this will work as well as I keep the multiples correct? Would it also be possible to do blocks of garter stitch in between full blocks of lace if you keep the increase as in the "lace part" (so increase 3 rows and then one row even?), also wondering about the "esthaetic aspect" of this ... Thanks Marly for all these nice tutorial videos! #alsomencanknit :)

    When you ssk, does it matter which way you go in to pick up the stitches? I notice you said to slip as to knit, and you went in to the front left, if you go in the front right will it effect the lean of the stitch?

  • @MarlyBird

    @MarlyBird

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, the slipped stitch direction effects the way the stitch looks. When doing an SSK the correct way is to slip as if to knit, slip as if to knit, then knit the two stitches together from the right hand needle through the front legs. Now, having said that, there are alternative ssk decreases out there that look better than the basic SSK (in my opinion) but I didn't want to muddy the instructions and change things from the way the pattern is written. For example, I am a fond of slipping the first stitch as if to knit and the second stitch as if to purl, then knit the two stitches together.

    So I’m following along in this pattern and I’ve got my 134 stitches but the directions on the pattern say “rep last 2 rows until there are 134 sts, ending on a rs row.” But according to the video around 6:30 mins in you indicate to end after a row 10. So that’s ending on a wrong side row. I got confused. Im wondering if the written pattern is a mistake on that direction. I’m going to go ahead and follow your video because it makes more sense. And you’ve never led me astray. Thanks for your clear videos. You always break down the pattern so it’s more understandable. Very much appreciated. 🤗
