Worth also adding that a lot of existing British companies volunteered their expertise in manufacturing, especially in the clothing sector, to produce PPE and were turned down in favour of these fly-by-night, once-off companies formed by pals of the Tory government to gouge taxpayers money for their own ends. A mixture of incompetence and cronyism by this government which probably cost lives.

In The Netherlands we had something similar, a few guys (attached to one of our political parties, but we shouldn’t mention that) set up a non-profit and a for-profit organisation. Told everyone that they could provide the nation with cheap mouth masks, and that they would do that “without profit”, but instead charged our government an immense amount of money and through obfuscation used their for-profit organisation on that contract but let their non-profit organisation (that also got free labour) handle all the shipping and handling stuff. And in the end the mouth masks that they provided were not usable for anyone. This whole thing cost the tax payer millions of euros, the guys involved are only now finally seeing some consequences for their actions as they are getting sued, but the politician involved in the deal refuses to release any of the emails that he sent to this group of shady vampires of the state. Likely because it would incriminate him as well, and he’d lose his cushy job in our government. Ghouls! The lot of them!

You’re partly right and partly wrong. There is the connection of one of three, the main culprit, who wrote part of the political election program of the Christian Democrats. The minister mentioned, has given personal emails (from which account he wasn’t supposed to mail state business) and included his personal WhatsApp messages to the investigation committee and those are now accessible for journalists also. The investigation committee of Parliament hasn’t resulted in any guilty person, all to the dismay of the parliament. But when there isn’t evidence, there can’t be a conviction. The minister was roasted by parliament and survived. But he will always be reminded as the one of the mouth mask scam, justifiable or not. The three culprits are being prosecuted for fraud, embezzlement and money laundering. Their assets are confiscated and the millions need to be paid back if they are convicted. Their intentions were malicious and this is supported by their WhatsApp message exchange between the three of them. In the meantime all three are, via a court decision, dismissed as directors of their own charity foundation. They’re going to appeal the court’s decision. The new court appointed directors of the foundation have said to cooperate with the government in repaying the millions of euros.

At the same time they dish money out to corporations etc. The last labour govt did address this, look at their achievements when last in power, a long list, I ask people on these forums to tell me what they dont agree with and what the tories have done for them....they never get back. You're correct in your way of thinking; richer people should be taxed more in order to improve the lives of those less fortunate however you're wrong in reality as what actually happens is almost the opposite. Government take taxes and use them to pay private companies who provide as little service to the public as they can in order to keep a big profit. Those companies are owned by friends, relatives, cronies, overlords etc. The profits are swept away to shell companies based outside the U.K. This is how wealth becomes so concentrated at the top and the people stay poor. You will always be in debt to those at the top, so you're forced to keep working and making them more money.

Even in America, as bent as they are, there are laws against price gouging and profiteering during times of disaster, crisis and public fear. They actually prosecute and close places down too. These companies need to be heavily fined and the people responsible tried and given some kind of sentence. A pandemic type situation may not happen again, but if we held those accountable for their greed, there is less chance of others trying their hand at fleecing the country.

@@ObakuZenCenter The Price Gouging Prevention Act of 2022 would prohibit the practice of price gouging during all abnormal market disruptions-including the current pandemic-by authorizing the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state attorneys general to enforce a federal ban against unconscionably excessive price increases.

I think we have such rules in the UK too, but that requires the incumbent government to enforce them. When it's the incumbent government BREAKING them, they're hardly going to enforce them. Just think of how many things people in this shambles of a government would have been prosecuted for the things they've done if they were regular people, or members of the opposition.

I remember Carol doing a lot of TV Adverts from finance firms who preyed on those in debt. She wasn't too concerned about those unfortunates when she was promoting sky-high interest payments.

She is trying to be diplomatic ,I’m sure she has plenty of adjectives in her vocabulary to describe the profiteering scumbags ,and I would put the government in that category of frauds and deceivers ,we the public have been shafted from every direction ,and it’s carrying on as we speak .
