I had a similar experience on a commercial flight one time when a young couple and their small girl were in the row behind me. No sooner had everyone sat down than the child started screaming and kicking the back of my seat repeatedly. After a few moments of this, I turned around and politely asked them to control their child. The mother's response: "She's only 5." My response: "You aren't." That took care of it.

I had a similar experience Tony and also found it annoying. I simply stood up in front of the talking teenagers. Eventhly they tapped me on the shoulder asking politely if I minded sitting down because they could not see. I then replied "I would be happy to sit down, perhaps you woud consider shutting up so I can hear the performance." Seemed to work as we did not hear a peep out of them the rest of the night.

My family has special needs children and if anyone of them had a meltdown like that, we feel it is our duty to remove them from the area. Some kids can't handle the stimulation of stage shows and it sounds as if that is what the problem was here. SHAME on the parents for allowing it to continue. And, if the child was just misbehaving, DOUBLE SHAME. I can't believe someone from the crew didn't step in. However, some parents are worse to deal with than a screaming child, so who knows.

We had a similar experience on the Carnival Magic in December of 22. A VERY drunk woman had been a spectacle all day around the pool area and of course she ended up with 2 old men draped all over her right in the center of the comedy show we wanted to see. The show was packed and they were so loud and obnoxious you couldn’t hear the comedian. The man behind them asked them to please let others enjoy the show, which only made them more entitled and even louder. He asked one more time, with the same response from the drunks, before he left the theatre with his frustrated group. The drunks did a victory howl that they had “won”. At this point a crew member did step in and tell the people they would be removed if they didn’t quiet down so others could hear which the drunks found hilarious. So then they loudly laughed and shooshed each other. We still couldn’t hear the show so we left too, along with a lot of other people around them. Sad that 3 drunk jerks ruined a good time for everyone. Don’t get me wrong, we drink, but if you are falling down sloppy and obnoxious drunk, go to your room and sleep it off.

Had one who even answered their cell phone and had a convo during one of the songs. The rule was the doors are shut when the show begins and you don’t let anyone enter or exit except between songs. This is a little trickier because most of the performances the songs just go from one to the next but there has to be something they could do. This is one of the reasons my wife and I always pick our cruises when school is not out on vacation. However we once cruised during College Break. Who knew college kids cruised. Our first night one extremely drunk college kid spent his entire time in our hot tub trying to pick up my wife. We didn't see him till the next morning after his arrest and deportation from the ship to our first island. We asked and were told he was tossing huge chess pieces into the sea from a board game painted on the deck for peoples use. The King he threw overboard was four foot high and obviously expensive and made specifically for the cruise line. Not only did this kid have to pay for his trip home but his daddy was getting a big bill for said chess pieces.

No way would I, as a teenager in the 60s, do that (it'd be the last thing I did after my parents found out!), nor would I have allowed my children or grandchildren today to rudely disregard others. On one of my Carnival cruises, we had waited on a couple that (three times in a row, ) were late enough returning that we were on the verge of departing all three times. On this occasion, they announced their names numerous times, and confined them to their rooms for the rest of the cruise.

Well, on my last cruise, I was traveling just after having a fairly severe knee injury. My husband and I were looking for a seat, at the water show, and I managed to hobble down several steps, with great difficulty, to where the open seats were located. This was no small feat for me,…not to mention that I’m almost 70 years old. When I got there and sat down, a man in what appeared to me, to be his early 40’s, turned to me and said…”Those seats are saved”. Well, guess what? I looked him directly in the eyes and told him that I was not moving and that he should know that, before every show, there is always an announcement that saving of seats is strictly prohibited. Needles to say, he was as mad as a wet hen, however all of the people around me actually applauded or gave me a thumbs up. When his party came, he loudly proclaimed that I had stolen their seats, but they didn’t really seem to mind. In the future, I’ll most likely look for another seat, as long as I don’t have any injury, making that difficult, but should the same situation occur, if anyone gives me any grief, I’ll just call over an employee. Hopefully, no one will rip a 70 year old lady out of her seat, before the employee can intervene.

We had a similar experience with teenagers & young kids interrupting shows and running the halls on a Princess cruise 10 years ago on a 10 day sailing in the Mediterranean. About mid-way through the sailing, the Captain came on the speaker and announced to everyone the families (multiple) were banned from ever sailing on Princess again and action was taken against the families.

We just got back from an Alaska cruise and we have a similar experience. We had some very noisy cabin neighbors. Kid were running up and down the hallway, yelling at each other, beating on the doors, slamming the doors, and just being all around loud and rude. Wouldn't be so bad if it was during the day when everyone was awake but this was at night when everone was sleeping. Their parents were just as bad. Our next cruise will be when kids are at school. I understand kids want to have fun too but they also need some common sense and some manners.

I agree that confrontation is necessary, but your approach is asking for a fistfight in the theater. IMO it would be to quietly go find the cruise staff and ask them to intervene. This is less disruptive to the rest of the theater and the bad actors will be reluctant to argue with cruise staff. This is the same approach we take with annoying passengers on a plane - we always ask the stewardess to deal with them.

When the show started, they started to scream, Holler, yell at the top of their lungs, whistle very loud and rudely. It was horrible. My husband and I were very embarrassed, because we were afraid others would think we were part of this obnoxious group. We observed many people started leaving the show. We did not return to another show that entire cruise. And by the way… We were sitting right next to the audio engineering area. There was actually one person sitting up there not really doing anything that could have gone over and said something to that group, but did not.

We recently encountered horribly rude passengers on the Voyage of the Seas last week. So many showed up late to the main production and tried to find seats in the dark, blocking our view and creating a horrible distraction. I do wish cruise lines would close the door and refuse admission to the main seating area once the show has started. They could shuffle people up to the balcony area, instead. Self centered behaviors, such as this audience behavior and horrible elevator etiquette, are big turn offs for me, but we must endure. I'm like your brother, though, If the show was not enjoyable for me, for whatever reason, I'd find the best possible transition moment to vacate, and I would likely report the nuisance to management.

I disagree espicially since RCCL started multiple shows on the cruise we were on last week at the same time they opened adventure ocean so we had no choice but to be 10 minutes late since there is a line for drop off and then the walk from one side of the ship to the other. We never disrupted anyone, I know better than that we sat in the very back. The shows are not appropriate for young children so they provide child care, but not letting you drop off your kids until the same time the show starts is stupid. Cruise lines need to plan better.

God bless your patience. I do not believe my response would have been as subdued. It definitely warranted some of the desperate need for attention they were looking for. 😂

Bad parenting skills...even more surprising that the parents where present and had the audacity to let their children behave this way. Their actions speak a thousand words, they should be ashamed of theirselves.

Obviously I cannot speak for the people the disrupted your experience but my daughter,my nephew and myself all have autism and my nephew in particular shrieks out like that and often yells “potato” too when he gets excited. I understand it is upsetting for you show experience, but looking at the other side of it would you rather a child in this situation never get out and experience these same joys, even at the cost of one show for those near by? Like myself, eventually they grow out of it or at least learn to muffle their excitement better, and so with all that said I truly am sorry that your experience was dampened by this disruption. I just wish to raise awareness that sometimes it is not just to rain on others enjoyment but instead is an impulsive reaction to their own enjoyment. Happy cruising!

I just got off cruise and there was a kid who jumped out in front of people screaming at top of their lungs. Parents right there watching and laughing. My grand daughter over 18 was talking to me and i didn't notice until this kid (around 9maybe) did it to be me. Auto response from me, grandmother of 12, "stop that, no one wants to hear that noise" and he did just that. Parents looked at me, said nothing and kid stood there with mouth open. My grand daughter told me he was doing it to everyone before I spoke up and laughed at me using my grandma voice on that kid. No regrets here

Hey Tony 👋. You know what, I really hate when parents don't keep their children in check. I mean you really think this kind of behavior is ok and you're not going to say anything? Unfortunately this isn't just on cruise ships, I have had to actually turn around in a movie theater to have a word with the parents of a kid who constantly kicks my chair. So please people, keep your children from ruining cruises for other people. This is why I'm trying Virgin Voyages next year. 😅

I am 100% in agreement with you! The parents need to be disciplined along with their teenagers! I also agree, the ship staff should have spoken to them and asked them to be quiet or leave. I also think that your brother should file a complaint. Keep up the good work Tony!

I have neighbours who have a built in pool in their backyard , as do I. One of their visitors I think is a grandchild and he’s there every weekend. I refer to him as “the screamer “. I usually have to leave my pool dry off and head into the house. I can’t take it.

Respect should be taught at a very young age and continued throughout life. Just simply be respectful of others around you in all you do. Teaching our children how to act in public is our responsibility as parents. I can’t understand why it is so hard. If you can’t control the child, leave and take your family so everyone else can enjoy. Can’t imagine if I had to live near that family😫. Thanks Tony!

Attending shows is also the highlight of my cruise days and the source of my biggest pet peeves. I could fill a book with "theater attendees behaving badly" stories. At the top of the list is exactly the first thing you said - arriving late (sometimes halfway through the show) AND going straight to the front row with little kids and screaming babies, with those kids having to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes. At the last show I attended I found a perfect seat in the middle on the right in a totally empty row, confident that I'd be able to watch the show in comfort. A woman entered the theater with a newborn in her arms (for a 90 minute show) AND SAT NEXT TO ME. The entire row was empty. All I could do was smh and laugh.
