If you are on a excursion sponsored by the ship, they will not leave you. However if you are on a excursion independent of the ship, they will leave you. I have never gotten left because I always return early. However if I book a private excursion, I make sure they guarantee me transportation to the next port if they cause me to miss the ship.

I beg to differ. My husband and I along with about 50 others were left because the bus we booked ON the ship to take us to Tulum was late.. they left us and went on to Cozumel and put us all on a small boat to get us to Cozumel. We arrived in Cozumel literally 10 minutes before we set sail for the next stop. We were on that tiny boat ALL DAY

Why would you have no ID?! Unless it's a port in your own country and your ship never left your country's waters you'd need your passport.

@@trueaussie9230 although it’s recommended, passports aren’t required for cruises originating and ending in the US. A birth certificate and drivers license or state ID will suffice. You don’t need these documents while in port either. Only when you originally board the cruise.

@@UpUpOurWay Did you read my comment?! I believe I adequately covered cruise ships that stay in 'national' waters. If a cruise ship leaves Aus intending to visit foreign ports - and does visit foreign ports - on return to Aus ALL passengers must pass through Immigration / Passport control and Customs / Quarantine. Ergo all passengers will need to take their passport with them on the cruise. I find it difficult to believe a nation as paranoid as the USA would not have the same requirements. Unless I'm mistaken, if one leaves a ship in a foreign port, one is entering a foreign country and requires a Passport AND (probably) a Visa. That's how it works with international airlines. If one is 'stranded' in one's own USA, surely it would be a simple matter to have one's ID verified by the cruise line - eg by faxing a copy of one's ID used to board the ship. (A copy of that document surely will be held by the ship.)

@@trueaussie9230 This particular cruise went to three foreign countries from the US. We do have passports, but they’re not required. We’ve traveled on similar cruises with friends who uses only a birth certificate and state issued drivers license/ID. I think it’s pretty limited to cruises to the Caribbean countries and Mexico from the US.

This happened to me before. I got jacked up by the time difference of the country compared to the time on my watch. I heard the cruise blow. Everybody and their mama were out on the decks, cheering and encouraging me to hurry up and run faster,…it was embarrassing lolol

Rule of thumb: Be within walking distance near the docks no less than 30 minutes before sailing from port. Be back within the same general area no less than 60 minutes before sailing.

Im embarrassed to say. I’ve done this. We were seconds away from being left. My wife was mad at me the rest of the cruise and for a few months after that. We met up with some of my friends that live in Honduras and got super hammered. She kept asking me to leave but I kept saying. 5 more min. So on. Then she said that’s it. Let’s go! We did. On the way back we got a flat tire. Took us 20min to get it fixed. We we actually got to the port. We realized it was the wrong ship! They all look alike! Anyways. We made it. But the whole crew was pretty mad at us.

@@ajh.4131 don’t cruise on Carnival then. By the time they let you out on the morning and you find a ride to whatever destination it’s already past 10:00 am. Carnival leaves ports at 3:30. So if you want to be back that early you might have enough time for a couple beers on a beach and maybe lunch. What’s the point?? Also. Pay attention. To “ship time” vs real time. If you don’t have Wi-Fi and the app showing boat time and telling you when to head back you have to know what local time is vs boat time. This is what screwed us up we were almost late because of that and Mexico does not have Wi-Fi everywhere and was not dependable. Also they don’t give you enough time at port, and after a few beers, few shots I can see how this happens.

About 25-30 of us we’re partying at a club in Cozumel, and someone got on the DJs mic and said, ships leaving in five minutes, it was funny seeing everybody scramble to the boat, funny as hell, great memory!!

A bunch of us barely made it in time and did this exact run because there was an issue with transportation from the excursion back to the boat. And this was an excursion we booked through the company - this had nothing to do with us, we were back at the vans in time. Lighten up. Laugh at a funny video, no one asked you to feel bad.

Yes, the parents are just a couple of paces ahead, but that doesn't mean anything if they are focused on getting to the boat and should that child stumble or something and they don't hear her call for help. She did catch up. Not saying they'd leave her behind, it's just the parent in me that regardless of car, train, plane, or boat, I'm want trying to catch, i want my child in front of me in case they need my assistance.

It could have been a different port, too. Anyways, outside of traffic issues, there's something wrong when you start having increasing numbers of late people returning.

Some passengers were late back on a cruise a few months ago. Our captain was hilarious, he said he was going down to welcome them and make sure they had everything they needed….like a watch 🤣

Poop 💩 happens, but it happens to some people more than others. In fact, some people set themselves up for failure. "We're taking a 3hr taxi ride to the other side of the island to see this one special whatever even though the port duration is only 7-8 hours. We'll make it back ok....." There should be a policy that involves a financial penalty (that should be followed to a T) AND leaving people behind if they miss the departure time. Some of these ships hold around 4000 passengers (read that as PAYING CUSTOMERS) and they shouldn't be inconvenienced by the tardy. As for late excursions..... if booked through the cruise company they are guaranteed.

I can’t take the anxiety. I’m always back WAY early.

My parents drove from Utah to LA to go on a cruise to Mexico. Around Las Vegas they realized they forgot their passports, and they were already on a tight schedule. Fortunately, they had a buddy who had recently passed flight school and was looking for excuses to get more flight hours. The ship waited for them. They were the last two on board, and used the crew gangplank.

My daughter did something similiar. 5 hours from college dorm to home. About halfway home she realized her passport was at the dorm. She didn't get home 'til 2 a.m. and we had an 8 a.m. flight.

I always be back on the ship 3hr ahead of time. My ass ain't being left in some random place. Plus, knowing me imma lose track of time. My rule be back three hours early.

The woman with the shopping bags made record time. Maybe she had lots of practice at the Shopping Mall Dash. The play-by-play was funny.

Don't remember which specific trip, but there has been a couple, notorious for coming back late, was recorded in several videos where not only were they publicly humiliated over the p.a. system, they weren't allowed to depart in any other ports (basically quarantined to their room) until the ship reaches their home port! There's another one, might be the same couple, that we're kicked off (they did get back on just long enough to learn their fate) for notoriously being late.

Tug boats to take the ship out of dock cost a lot of money. If this ever happens to you, get on the pilot boat that picks up the pilot once the ship gets to the pilot station. He jumps off you can jump on.

We had a person commit suicide during an excursion. The people on the excursion were delayed and everyone on the balconies thought they were being funny heckling them as they came back to the ship ‘late’. It’s always tacky but this was horrible to witness.

If they killed themselves because they got heckled, they had bigger problems and was just a matter of time till they did it anyways. Don't let their problems ruin your cruise

@@trossk--I think what the commenter was saying is that someone killed themself during the excursion and that made everybody else late. And the people coming back late were heckled. Not someone killing themself because of being heckled.

It's expensive to catch the ship to the next destination. You have to rent a plane to get there first.

Carnival is a bit crazy for us at times, but it’s fun. It was free (just taxes) with status matching through the casino so couldn’t pass it up!

Been on many cruises ..no excuse to be late

I get a kick out of these clips...lol. Everyone cheering and laughing

I couldn't imagine holding an entire ship up being selfish. Or the thought of being left in a foreign country with nothing. Some people just aren't able to be left on their own.

I take my ID, some cash, one debit card, extra light pants, a pocket sized stuffed rain jacket, usual beach gear etc in a good sized backpack like if I’m going hiking. Be prepared. Have identification. I never do excursions with the cruise company. I like going into the countries and finding my own adventures. People are stupid if they don’t prepare. It’s really not hard to carry a backpack.

Eh - we don't know the whole story. A big group from one of my cruises did this same run bc there was an issue with transportation back to the boat. We were all at the meeting point in plenty of time. And this was a cruise sponsored excursion. Us being late had nothing to do with us.

@@Sabrina.682 being late has everything to do with the person being late. Blaming someone else is not a valid excuse. Have contingencies and take responsibility for piss poor planning.

@@isjjcjw Please read. We arrived back to the meeting point ON TIME. The transporters to and from the excursion we booked ON THE SHIP were on time to get us, but one of the vans would not start. a group of us didn't get to go back to the ship even though we were on time to the meeting point after the excursion. They told us to wait on the van for another one, and that we would not be left behind bc we booked through the ship. Which part of that is on me? And what contigency plan would you suggest - a 20 yr old in a foreign country for the first time take a cab back to the boat? I would still have been waiting on the other group who were back at the meeting point. I have better sense than that. Don't be silly.
