this was one of the those rare shows I started and abandoned .... maybe I'll go back someday

I loved the world, the magical creatures, the chemistry between the characters and most of all, the twists throughout the whole show. By far my favourite show of 2019. I just don't get why so many people don't like it. Btw you pronounced burgue wrong.

I would’ve wanted them to focus more on the magical beasts and not turned it into a political story that is similar to how the Jews where treated in ww2 or the Berlin Walls. I think it would’ve been more interesting if they went for the dark arts and cult theme instead. Maybe like try to do some cuthulu like dark god.

I just recently watched *_Carnival Row_* and enjoyed it more than you (8/10). I agree the writing could be improved, the story arcs were not all that surprising, but still very solid story telling. In the first episode they showed a couple of Centaurs in the background but then Centaurs never appear again. They did this, I believe, to skirt the issue of "pants" or "no pants". After all, if Centaurs don't have to wear pants why should anyone else?

That sounds like your review lines up with a lot of others I've heard/read. Your suggestion that if you like fantasy you'll probably get something out of it almost makes me want to watch it, but there's just so many other things... 🤔

Well, since I've seen your TTRPG channel and you've mentioned you used to play alot of World Of Darkness games, I will say that I just started this series because of some of the aspects that make me think of a Victorian-Era "Changeling The Dreaming" variant. Obviously it's far from 1 to 1, but it's my interest in Changeling that made me curious to see what they do with the series.

I enjoyed this TV series more than the other fantasy show " His Dark Materials". I didn't like Dark Materials at all. That show doesn't feels realistic or drew me in enough to get me excited for the next episode..the dialogues, the characters felt meh! & staged...😝 But Cannival Row was a different experience for me. I was totally immersed in the story, the fantasy setting and the characters are believable. The dialogues felt pretty realistic to me. Definitely watching Season 2. Don't know why so many people are lukewarm about this show though 🙄😊

Couldn't get into this world. It was dark - and I like dark- but kinda a mixture of everything we've already seen. I would rate it a 7/10.

I felt lukewarm on this but I love the world it creates and the set up for the story of the next season seems really intriguing.

At one point someone, I think Tourmaline (great name) said "It's the 4th century!" And, I'm like c'mon, don't make it THAT obvious. I get the point they're trynna make and I adore the fairy tale style of it all, especially with the muskets that's neat. Really cool having fae folk bc that's not done often. They just, idk, keep doing stuff that throws me out of the immersion. I just keep thinking basic bitch political talking points don't belong in a fantasy in you're gonna write it so poorly. You CAN do it well, I'd say House of the Dragon is a good example (suffrage women's rights type message) but in Carnival Row it's just far too in your face man.

I'd rather have many okay fantasy series than none at all. We are a dying breed and if we badly review something like carnival row then we have no chance to getting a boost in the fantasy realm entertainment...no sequel to bright....no sequel to Warcraft...etc...

I didn't like it. I can't even tell why I didn't like it.. The acting was ok, the plot was ok, the world was ok. I guess that's just it.. It's an "ok" show, but nothing special about it.

5/10? I thought it was at least a 7. For me it was a solid 8.
