S. Sowmya (born April 16, 1969) (Tamil:ஸௌம்யா) is a Carnatic music singer and vainika. She learnt music initially from her father Dr. Srinivasan, and later from Dr. S. Ramanathan and Smt.T. Muktha. In 1998, Sowmya co-founded Carnatica - an institution dedicated to classical music & dance instruction, archival, talent search and other related activities. She also co-authored the first comprehensive reference CD-ROM on Carnatic music, Nadanubhava. She is also a visiting professor at the Advanced School of Carnatic Music of the Music Academy Madras.
She Awarded from Music Academy,Chennai are Kshetragnar Padam Prize, 1985, D.K. Pattammal Award, 1988, T. R. Rajagopala Iyer Award (Best Raga Alapana), 1995, Outstanding Lady Vocalist - Senior, 2000 & 2001, Srirangam Gopalaratnam Award, 2005, AIR Music competition prize, Classical Vocal and Light Classical, 1987 and more.

While the brief life- history and song details are helpful, the raagams of each song are most welcome.

Very refreshing Carnatic Music. Makes us forget the World for an hour. Can you have some 'Song title' spellings corrected! Gajavadhana should be Gajavadana. Akilandeswari should be Akhilandeswari.
