Sunday, October 15, 2017
McColl Center for Art + Innovation artist-in-residence Carmen Papalia explores accessibility as it relates to his experience as a nonvisual learner, a term that Papalia has chosen in place of negative descriptions such as “blind” or “visually impaired.”

Papalia led an hour-long walk around McColl Center to explore the possibilities for learning and knowing the built environment through the nonvisual senses. Participants lined up behind the artist, linked arms, and closed their eyes for the entire walk. The walk was followed by a group discussion about universal accessibility at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.
