BTW, the Model Y, and in fact all EV sales, include China sales, which is worse than this CarMax flip scheme. EV manufacturers purchase their own cars, the CCP reimburses the manufacturer more than the manufacturing cost of the EV, then they register them to make it look like a sale and park them in a field to rot. There are fields of them in China.
Man carmax is wild on prices. I recently purchased a car for my daughter. Every comparable car was nearly 5k more there.

They bank on selling fewer cars, at higher prices. They have calculated their floor and i bet we are no where near carmax changing their prices. If they are buying cars from dealerships, they are not close to changing.

Their model banks on people being willing to pay more to not have to negotiate. There are some interesting studies on how people will avoid buying another car since they get anxiety about dealing with the sales person. Tesla took a similar idea since people can just order their car online and just pay the sticker price.

@@Bigmac79alex instantly underwater on a car if you don’t have a big down payment. By the time you add taxes and the inflated car price in to a note the down payment better eclipse those figures or you drive off the lot completely underwater from Carmax. It’s a bad financial decision to overpay for used cars at carmax, especially at 12/15 percent rates on used at present
It goes to show, shop for the best car for you, then research prices before you test drive. Shiny cars can make for an emotional buy. This vid helps!
Collapse? The used vehicle i was looking at went up 2k last week. Still waiting on the big Collapse.

So I think why that happened is they are not selling that many cars. They are trying to make up for lack of volume by price increases. This is going to be a losing buisness model. Just wait. In about 6 to 9 months there are going to be so many used cars flooding the market from repos that cars are going to be crazy cheap. You will be able to get a 20k mile care for around 10k. If we get lucky maybe 7k. Carmax is too stupid to understand they need to cut fast or they will be sitting on a massive inventory with no one to have any money to buy them. This will cause them to go under if they are not careful. I don't think they are careful so they might not make it to the other side.

Same. Every now and then I go on craigslist and fb market place to look at cars. You wouldn't BELIEVE what people are asking for a Honda civic with 200k miles. 200k is the new 100k miles lol

Just picked up a 3 year old, fully loaded wrangler 4 door rubicon with low mileage for 1500 under the lowest blue book value in very good condition. At Carmax. Couldn't believe it.

This is nothing new. In 2009, when the economy was collapsing, I was shopping for a specific model. Not super-rare, but uncommon. Carmax had a 2008 with typical mileage for a year old car. I ended up buying a new one from a dealer - a 2009 with ~0 miles - for $1000 less than the used one at Carmax.
Nothing is going to change. They arent going to budge. Higher prices sell fewer cars same profit. Just like the fast food industry, fewer patrons but higher prices = the same or higher prices.
Glad you looked into this. I have been pointing out the dealer/reg/CarMax flip scheme for a while. I'm not sure who is getting rich off this, but the consumers and CarMax lose in the end.
Oh no, they're down 3.4% YTD. Totally tanked 🙄

Tanked was bad word choice, you got him there. However, 3.4% is actually a very large fluctuation for stock prices.
Bought my Chevy bolt with 20k miles from Hertz for 18k out the door. CarMax had the same model with 15k miles for 26k not including fees and tax.
Sounds like Saturn's problem from the past
Once I went to carmax and I seen they selling Hyundai accent 2013 with 122k miles for 13k I never been in their lot
Price aside, I feel like there is something to be said for a car company that has true no haggle, people that don’t walk up and try to sell you crap, and no BS fees. Most cars at stealerships are going to do some BS market adjustment, a 799 doc fee, and then put window tint and edge guards for 2999.
I was going to buy new but the dealer couldn't get me the options I wanted on a model that was being discontinued, plus they wanted to charge me like $2300 for some paint and fabric "protection" bs. So I found a nice used one at Carmax. They only charged me $100 to ship the car in from another location 400+ miles away for a test drive. I did have to pay over market price but none of these bs added on fees like you get from the dealer. I'm very happy with the vehicle but there were two things that kind of ticked me off. First off they didn't disclose that the vehicle was a "business" owned vehicle until I was signing the papers... and they lied about doing a oil change because when I got home and checked the oil it was a quart and a half overfilled and dirty.
More Carmax videos please 😂
Incredibly arrogant dealership
I have 5 vehicles, so I don’t need any more. If some land in my lap for cheap, I’ll probably buy more. I’m definitely not watching Carmax and their crooked pricing.
I have never dealt with carmax. However due to how carvanna treats its customers my next car will be with the dealership of the brand only.
Me and CARMAX negotiated a price. They offered a non-negotiable price, I responded with a non-negotiable offer. They came back: Non-negotiable. I came back with a lower non-negotiable offer. Somehow I lost the CARMAX chat connection. I can drive my 26 year old vehicles another 25 years if necessary. They have far fewer fault codes than modern vehicles. Amusingly, because they are Camry and F150, many parts are in stock at the local parts stores. After 26 years.

Who holds the floor plan for CarMax?
Too High 😢😢
Shopping online for a vehicle just doesn't make any sense, particularly now that money is so tight for the average consumer. Nobody is now going to spend that kind of money on a vehicle without seeing and touching it first.
They will have to readjust they pricing to get more people to buy and better rates
Greed and due to collusion from Manufacturers, Banks, and Dealerships made this possible.
Carmax is done. Overpriced then financing interest. Your going to be upside down on trading in that carmax car in 3 years
as a dealership salesperson, I'm honestly not even mad, sure its harder to make money now which sucks but its easier to sell cars now because carmax isnt offering everyone a million dollars more for their trade ins, Carmax was crazy with the offers, we would even have employees sell their cars to carmax before buying a new car lmao.

Also quick little mention, of course it depends on the make, model, and how long you plan on keeping a vehicle, but if you buy a car, for the love of god get an extended warranty if you intend to keep the vehicle a long time, if its a toyota corolla I get it but for reference subaru multimedia systems are a $3000 repair, and no 2 vehicles are created equal. I bought a 2019 BMW 330i (haha bmw so unreliable blah blah blah) whatever, point is I bought the extended warrant, got it for $3400 which for a luxury vehicle is a solid price, didn't buy from my own dealership btw because I work at a toyota and subaru dealer. I literally made sure that because I got the warranty I was going to use the fuck out of it on every little thing I can. it has saved me over $4000, (headlight housing was a $3200 replacement, I just saw slight condensation, literally the most petty thing ever lmao) and I broke an active grille shutter in an ice storm by hitting a bad bump, technically my fault but the service advisor told the warranty company it wasn't me because he's the best, saved me $786. I'm telling yall it is worth it, just don't let a dealership tell you it's $5000 (on a mass market brand like Honda,Subaru,Toyota etc... can't speak for yall BMW,Lexus,Mercedes people). And please for the love of god if you are offered Gap for $500 to $750 and you put $0 to $3000 down on a car, take it, otherwise I hope to god you total your car lmao.
My uncle tried to buy a car from carmax years ago. He said they asked so many questions and made it so difficult he actually just went and bought a new car elsewhere. I walked around their lot once and even with my limited knowledge on cars knew they had god awful deals.
I want to see how it all plays out at the end of the year.I might buy a car.🤔
You forget how many people pathologically hate haggling.

I told Infiniti dealer that I'm going to pay my price , cash no adds on , except $175 doc fee. In 3 weeks they called and told me that they were ready to sell on my terms. There were no haggling.
I think they need to reevaluate their price model. 2k in addon fees on top of whatever margin is too much. Its simpler just to take the data from the surrounding area car make avg selling price and go from there. Their price has to be dynamic based on avg selling price for the make and model.
It means that the federal government might need to lower the interest rates to get the people to buy vehicles again
It doesn't matter how many miles you have on a car, if it has ever had title assigned to it then that becomes a used car instantly even with only one mile on it.
Carmax definitely did not pay much for cars I took my BMW 840 to Carmax and they offered me $9000 less than the dealer I gave my car to at the end So Carmax definitely deserve to go down
20k for a 2012 Nissan Altima coupe with everything but with high miles
They just built a carmax on long island.
Save ! Save ! Save !
We have been hearing these experts for a year waiting for the market to crash. Not even close 😂. Nothing has changed at all despite the data being available as above.

Maybe they shouldn't have put those fking stickers on the back of every car that last 25 years and can be seen even through your new paint job.
Why assume knowledge, responsible buyers? If something is easy, people will do it.
Ideal is helping us girls learn how to shop for a car
They will be fine. They are in the real estate business as well. They own all their properties. They sell vehicles to people with credit problems. There’s always good business in that. Every automotive dealer is on the chopping block at the moment. The economy is in shambles.
The only thing that sucks for us is trade ins. I lost $10k in equity by waiting 6 months.
These car people constantly say the same things over and over to exhaustion. Nothing but clickbait. He doesnt know squat
Carmax is too greedy. That’s why they’re tanking. I honestly don’t feel bad.
I see car manufacturers going direct sell to customers and cutting out dealers. The middle man
Awsome video 👍 Now let see the same to the housing market (zillow)
They got all they prices marked up when you can buy a new one for same price and most people will buy from The dealer. They have nothing really to go off they have no brand new cars
The results of price gouging.
Carmax owns new car dealerships also, hence why so many new cars for sale
