Carlinkit can either use our mobile phone's mobile hotspot or we can insert a data sim card into carlinkit for it to use mobile data. It does not use BYD sim card internet

Thank you for the video, I have been looking at purchasing one of the carlinkit units for a while now. I have my BYD seal only a couple of weeks away. The apps look like they run very smooth, how is the quality when making calls? Is there any lag or delay? I have used a quad lock unit before and the call speaking delay was quite bad.

I haven't tried out making phone calls on my Android Auto running on top of Carlinkit on top of BYD Seal yet. Will try that out and see how it goes. KZread audio on Carlinkit is really good, no lag when I binge watch KZread in the Seal. Once again, it's because mine is the 8GB RAM model with faster Qualcomm processor which I believe made a difference, oh and it's latest bluetooth version 5 all makes a difference.

@@chickenguts3819 I have the same box and had a Carlinkit 4.0 before this one. The phone call lag is improved but it still is there, although it is really quick. Sometimes you notice it when you want to speak and the other person speaks at the same time. What I find the most disturbing is the fact the android system has to boot and then the apple carplay boots. It takes roughly 35 seconds from starting the car to getting into carplay functions.

Hello, great video!! Have you tested the carlinkit in the vertical mode of the rotating screen of the byd cars? Does it automatically adapt to the orientation of the screen?

Yes, BYD infotainment doesn't allow us to rotate the screen to portrait when Apply carplay or Android Auto is running

In my opinion, the BYD infotainment is integrated with lots of controls like ADAS safety systems and driving feature. I don't think it's a good idea to side load. Side loading apps may take up more of its processing power and we have to manually update the apps, and if we download apps from unreliable sources, means we run the risk of cyber attacks. Carlinkit is another device with its own CPU and memory and its downloading apps from Google play store. So easy update and safer. BYD can't deny warranty too saying we side loaded app.

Yes you can run Carlinkit without the Data SIM Card and just tether to your phone's mobile hotspot, however, you won't be able to run your phone's (assuming same phone) Android Auto on Carlinkit. Thanks to your question, I've made a video on this and will launch tomorrow. Stay tuned.

I haven't tried this before, but I did notice there is an apk installer app manager that comes with carlinkit. That tells me it can install apk android apps loaded in the sd card.

Just plug it into the USB-A port of my BYD Seal and it boots up through BYD Apple Carplay. Is that what you are asking?

I have Toyota C-HR 2022 with WIRELESS Carplay and WIRED Android auto (I don't know why both are not wireless but this is something else :). Does that Carlink will work with the car ? And if yes, when I use the Carlinkit android system with Sim card for internet (watching KZread videos for example) , can i receive and make calls trough the sound system of the car via my phone (which is with different number from the Sim card in the Carlinkit) ? Or I must use Android auto to get my calls to work with my car system ? I'm looking for a device to use my Samsung phone Android auto wirelessly (now I'm using the wire and It's terrible everytime to plug in/out), my wife to use her Iphone Carplay wirelessly (all good for her at the moment) and to watch youtube videos :)

Why not install and run these apps directly from byd’s own system? It is a big android pad with open os.

No need. Yes, if you dont want to use a sim card, you can tether this carlinkit to use your phones mobile internet or any WiFi. I started with that, but I found tethering is very inconvenient so I got myself an extra data sim card.

How's the carlinkit sound quality like compared to the original BYD android auto wireless/Apple Car Play wired?

Try using the USB-A to C cable instead of the USB-C to Ccable to connect to your BYD Seal. BYD Seal USB-C is only a charging port doesn't carry data. Hope this helps.

Can you open 3 apps side by side or split screen would on;y allow you Split View of two? On Samsung tablet if you drag app from side bar to the middle of the screen yet allow you to resize app to your desire and put many apps side by side

Hello - looking at potentially getting one of these as I'm not comfortable with downgrading the car OS, just to install some apps. Just wanted to ask if there is any delay in sound when playing off KZread/Netflix/Viki I notice that I have about a 1 second delay when playing a video on my phone but output sound via bluetooth to the car. Does this Carlinkit have the same issue? Thanks

We don't need a SIM card. Carlinkit can use wifi from phone mobile hotspot, but it's inconvenient. It's better to get a data SIM card

Yes that's why I love connecting my Windows laptop to my Samsung Tablet at the coffee shop and work on my Google Doc in my car with Carlinkit. Unfortunately, this carlinkit I have got doesn't have another USB port for me to connect up to my computer to run Super Display Android App (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kelocube.mirrorclient&hl=en&gl=US) not affiliated with them. If not this would be perfect to use my BYD Seal 15" display as my second laptop monitor.

They are both good. Just make sure you go for the one with higher RAM - 8GB.

Very nice! The slide if the byd menu from the bottom (8:25) is something that happens just with this carlink? Or is it a apply car thing? I can't do that on my byd seal with a droid auto 😢... perhaps was part for a ota update?

Yes, it's an update thing, but maybe not be OTA update. When I first got my Seal with an older version I could not swipe up from the bottom, see this earlier video kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6111LuNl9nIXZs.htmlsi=4uDihGobNrwyZ05v&t=139 After that when I send the car back for first 3 months service, they updated some internal modules for me, and I received an OTA update a couple of weeks later, see this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/oquow5agldDTdNY.html and then I have this feature of swiping up from bottom. So I am not sure if it's OTA update or the service center update. Any way, yes you can't do it because it's older version of software, hopefully you will be able to update soon.

I have a carlink kit with Android version 12, and it doesn't work on BYD Seal. The Power is on, but it just wouldn't load. Do you know if there is a way to update the carlink kit version? Thanks!

Yes, Carlinkit does not come with the data sim card, you will need to get a sim card from your phone company. If you have data share sim plans, you can request another data sim card for free. That's for Australia mobile carriers.

Thanks, great channel. It was because of you I bought a Seal. Only problem is in Mexico there are not a lot of charging stations, so it is just great for in the city, but for the last 3 months I have not paid a cent for gas.

The Carlinkit works just with wired apple carplay. Now that BYD has updated its firmware to have wireless Apple carplay, the Carlinkit may no longer work. Not sure though.

Does and will this work with Byd ATTO 3 ?

I haven't tested it with Atto 3 before. If Atto3 support Apple Carplay then it should work.

I bought the SDM660 because it's newer and better. They are both good chips, so you can't go wrong with either. The $110 discount is offered by the amazon seller at the time of me making this video. Check out the link to see if it's still on offer.

@@NsrWeb Haha... now I have confused myself. I suspect my bio is more correct be cause I did a lot of research when I was making the video and writing the bio. I think both models are good, just make sure you have the one with more RAM (8GB). Ya the discount is periodic. It's on discount every now and then.

BYD Seal does not have the wireless connection of Car Play with iPhone (an absurd thing considering the level of the car), this requires it to occupy the only data port of the car. I have a 2 terabyte USB stick with all my music and I have to choose whether to connect my iPhone with CarPlay or listen to music from the stick. I don't know if this product could solve my problem, or alternatively if there is another product that can do it.

Something I could not test it out for you because I don't have an iPhone. However, on Carlinkit website they say they support wireless Apple Carplay for iPhone running on iOS 6+ so .... yes? Hopefully someone with an iPhone tested this can confirm in this thread.

Questions: 1) Does it support portrait view? 2) Does it support split screen view? Ex. Google map/youtube

I tested it out. This is what I did. Started my Seal, rotated the screen to portrait, plug in the Carlinkit to connect it, when Carlinkit loads up as Apple Carplay, the screen automatically rotated back to landscape. So no, even though carlinkit can run on portrait, BYD does not allow Apple Carplay (it thinks Carlinkit is apple carplay) to run on portrait.

Can there be an exact model for sale?

Mine is the one with SM6225 chip, which might be an older model already. They keep improving and using new chips that's why there are so many.

Have you paired your phone directly to the the BYD infotainment directly using Android Auto or Apple Carplay before you got your Carlinkit? If so, you will need to unpair it from the BYD Bluetooth device list and also unpair it from your phone. After that you can then plug in the Carlinkit,
