Recently awarded “MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR 20/21” for the QLD Prestige awards - Carl Wockner is a straight-up SAVAGE! (the good kind).
Latest single “Fool’s Gold” is a delicate balance of organic-acoustic POP mixed with singer-songwriter lyricism and honesty, which is exactly what you get when you’re first exposed to Carl Wockner, especially in a live setting.
Determined to pave his own path in modern music - Wockner uses multi-instrumentalism and dynamic production to take listeners on a journey through multiple genres and sonic excitement, all while telling a story.
“Recent singles of 2020 END OF ME, PAINT THE AIR, STEREO, CMB have been a collaboration with pop producer Ben Flanders. We added specific ingredients of Pop production with REAL acoustic guitar, hits, taps - vocal trills and voicing. These were all incorporated INTO the beat to give a nice earthy presence, and we even added Kazoo (on Better) just because.. I really feel like we just straight up need more kazoo in our lives!”
Carl Wockner was named the first and ONLY Australian artist to ever win Top Honors at the International Acoustic Music Award’s 2015 (USA), along with top of the AAA category for the release of his album Crayon Days with producer Michael Flanders in Nashville TN. Wockner has skipped up the charts with his first two single releases receiving high rotation to national radio in both Australia and USA which landed the title track into the International Billboard Charts. The same album has received a 2016 IMA (Independent Music Awards) Finalist nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album. It was following this recent success that Wockner relocated his family to Nashville TN, USA as a strategic move for his evolving career.
Sept 2019, Carl was featured for an entire episode of “Backstage Marquee” a syndicate show aired across the USA featuring original artists set to be ‘the next big thing.’
Sept 2018 Wockner performed LIVE on National USA Television. The show HLN on the CNN Network for the segment “The Weekend Express,” featured Carl’s original songwriting and performance as a showcase taste of Nashville / Music City.
His rare “Live Looping” style solo performance matched only with his signature vocals and unique acoustic guitar work renders Carl in a league of his own. The live shows have been recognized throughout Australia and USA with multiple headliner performances at festivals and touring, and Wockner is now rumoured as one of the busiest musicians in Nashville, TN - aka “Music City.”
Since landing in Nashville, Wockner has released two EP’s including a Christmas release with the favoured “Santa Selfie.” Currently his latest single “Better” is noted as the best studio representation of his signature live performance style.
There’s something about Carl Wockner’s music that simply exudes peace. The peace you feel when you’re humming along to a nostalgic track, or the peace you feel when you just know everything’s going to be ok. However you connect with Carl’s music, you would agree this he is definitely onto something.
Carl’s first EP, the self-produced, recorded, mixed (all in his lounge room) Acoustic…ness, was released in 2011 to an overwhelmingly positive response. Single “Pictures” received airplay on Hot 91 FM and ZINC FM, the latter of whose DJ’s referred to him as “the man with the big hair and Golden Tonsils.” Carl was also named a finalist in three categories at the 2012 and 2013 MusicOZ awards: Acoustic Singer/Songwriter, Blues and Roots, and Pop.

Hey mate, its something to work around for sure. I actually built my 2nd tier with hinges so I can just move it easy and switch on my power button. To my knowledge there is no other way of doing this then soldiering the switch to always be on - not sure how handy you are with electronics but it wouldnt be a tricky task. Personally I think it would protect the unit a little more from power spikes if you turn it on after you connect the power (but Im not sure) alternatively you could rig a little pencil or something to be stuck to the button so its easy to turn on?

So you’ve inspired me to get into multi track looping live. Looking to purchase a multitrack looper, I see you use the Headrush now and it sounds awesome but I think it’s a little big for me so I’m looking at the RC600 and the RC300. My question is what do you think of the sound quality now of the RC300? I know that it’s only 16bit but just curious to what your ear says to how it compares.

  • @carlwockner

Thanks mate that’s great!! Honestly the audio quality is barely noticeable on most environments. You could go with either no problems. I’m still a big fan of the 300. The 600 is great but still a little buggy (but that will change with firmware updates), and the 600 has more features but unless you’re deliberate they can get in the way. If you’re newer to looping, I’d suggest a used RC300 and then upgrade only when you have a specific reason to.

Hey Carl, I've been wondering something for a while now about your two-mic setup. I've been able to puzzle out that you use one for singing the lead vocals and the other one for beatboxing and other fills that go into the loop. Is this the only reason why you use two microphones (i.e. to have one bypass the looper) or do you also change the EQ for beatboxing? Would love to hear your view on this and what you think the caveats are to having a setup with just one mic as a budget-friendly solution. Thanks for the awesome content !!!

  • @carlwockner

    @carlwockner

    3 жыл бұрын

Hey mate, yes I only have 2 for that reason. So I can have a seperate channel for my main vocal. The added benefit is that I can use a mic better suited to each. So my beatbox mic I use an SM58 specifically for its tight proximity and tone for beatbox, and a KSM8 for my main vocal which is super clear and crisp - and wouldn't be the best option for my loop mic. if you only have 1 mic - id strongly suggest using a mic splitter so you can at least still have seperate sends. otherwise you are only limited to the EQ for your guitar to be the same as your mic. Also a second bonus is it LOOKS much better on stage having 2 mics and stands!

In laymen’s terms a DI is 99% just converting a standard guitar cable into a mic cable so you can send the signal over a long cable to front of house. Hi Carl, Thank you so much for doing this video. I'm also using RC-300 with my acoustic when I'm live looping. The downside is that the tone of the guitar gets degraded when I play it through the loop input vs. plugging the guitar straight to mixer desk. Have you any suggestions what I should do with this? BR Leeni

Leeni Mäkilä sounds like the volumes might be set different. Make sure you set the master volume around 3o’clock then adjust the guitar input volume up slowly to match the volume of your acoustic if it wasn’t being run through the looper. Then make sure your individual tracks are recording and playing back at 100 and not louder or softer (unless you want that) the. It should sound the same:)

What type of amp or cab do you run it all through?

This is my old setup (check out my new one!) but I just run it directly into any PA system or studio input. Same as any normal acoustic guitar🤙🏼 hope that helps!

@@carlwockner so helpful Carl, reason I’m asking is because I’m trying to introduce an overdrive pedal into my chain and I’ve been using a fishman loudbox up to now. I understand that it’s not good to put overdrive into an acoustic amp...but I’ll be ok if I go straight into PA?
