    Back in the late '80's, a barely weened coyote pup showed up at the place I worked in a very small town. For some reason, she decided that I was hers. She was the best "dog" I've ever been owned by. She was *completely* obedient, and OMG was she intelligent. She's been gone for nearly thirty years now, and I still miss her every day.

    Did you ever see the story of the black wolf that came and befriended a man and his dog? It was full grown, totally wild yet it came one day and was totally friendly to this man and his lab, and even people who would visit. It ends sadly, a hunter shot him likely because he just wanted to be friendly, some wild animals (especially canine type) sometimes have very good personalities just genetically. This by no way means its common, and your likely to be severely injured or killed trying to befriend a wild wolf.

    Imagine our ancestors throwing morsels of food at wild wolves to see how close they would get. There is evidence that in the past, even big predators like cave lions didn't mess with humans too much, hence why there exists fairly detailed cave paintings of these animals. Suggesting people where able to get somewhat close to these animals. It is not hard to think that with their strength in numbers and intelligence humans where probably top knotch killers. Sorta like African wild dogs, probably not the strongest individuals, but quite fearsome as a group. Only the most ballsy animals got near us voluntarily

    I am glad I found this video as I live beside a golf course which deer, foxes, and raccoons live and its been awesome being able to interact with them especially the foxes. There are walking trails throughout which is for the public. Very recently a family of coyotes moved in and where I live, coyotes are not typically native in our area. I do daily walks around the golf course and since finding out about the coyotes I have become nervous when I am out walking. People keep telling me how vicious they are etc. I am just doing a little research on them. There is a big difference between urban coyotes and completely wild living in the forest coyotes. I know I should ALWAYS respect that the animal is wild and I am in there space. Be somewhat guarded, but this video puts me at ease. Carl is acting like my fox friend Foxy. This is exactly what she would do. She would follow me very close. It was always an amazing experience.

    You should never feed urban wildlife such as coyotes and raccoons. In some jurisdictions it is actually illegal because the animals lose their fear of humans and instead become dependent. This makes them potentially dangerous to pets and small children.

  • @gregmonks

    @gregmonks

    You should always feed urban wildlife. Humans, the most destructive, invasive species on the planet, have taken over most of the lands that used to feed such creatures, and murder such creatures willy-nilly, referring to them as "vermin", when they're the rightful denizens of the land. There are far too many humans on the planet, and efforts should be taken to greatly reduce their numbers. Get your humans spayed and neutered so that they can't overpopulate the planet, and block their access to food in order to cut down on their numbers.

    l had a coyote in Princeton Tx that was eating from cat food outside my lake house. l walked out one day and he didnt budge and kept eating. After a couple of weeks l was petting him like a dog and feeding him hot dogs and playing fetch. He would literally chase a ball and bring it back for a bite of hot dog. He didnt even bother my cats. They were calm around him.

    Was he an adult coyote? You handled the situation well. I don't hear or see stories like yours very often. Thanks.

    It won’t be cute when he get shot by some asshole. Sadly this is what happens because they trust the wrong people. It’s be one thing he was trying to lure Karl and keep him or help him due to injury but this is gonna put Karl right in front of the wrong redneck or cop.

    feeding a wild animal where i'm from is a $5000 fine. when they get used to people feeding them they become dependent on them. if someone doesn't willingly oblige the animal may just take it or attack. that means the animal is put down. this guy thinking he's helping the coyote may have signed his death warrant

    Unfortunately when wild animals are fed other people try to shoot and kill them. I had a fox that would come to my yard every night and eat, he would sit in the woods and watch me water the flowers and wait till I brought my dogs inside and then I fed him on a rock because he did not like bowls he was afraid of stainless steel bowls. He brought his mate and one would watch while the other ate to make sure predators did not come to they are amazing. One day at stop coming and I believe it had died because it was so perfectly consistent.

    This is how you kill Carl. Carl knows that humans are dangerous and he should stay away from them and live his life. But convincing Carl otherwise will kill him just as effectively as a gun or car on the road. Carl will be hit by a car latter, or a Karen will call animal control when Carl shows up digging through her trash. Carl might get confused and think that Mrs. Fluffy the cat in your yard was left out for him. Or Carl might “investigate” your toddler playing in the back yard. None of this is going to end well for Carl. If Coyotes had Public Service Announcements, this one would be called, “Don’t be a Carl”
