I agree. You don't have to think we're tearing Earth apart to see benefit in having energy options.

funny how carl sagan already has answers for problems we face today, when this video was probably made ten years ago. its a shame that our govenment doesnt take action against environmental distruction until its real and actually happening

That really is too bad. I wasn't brought up to be religious by my parents, but I can respect people's beliefs even though some things people don't believe in...are TRUE! If only they can put themselves outside their box for JUST A MINUTE. More than half of everything I've learned is due to me giving things/people a chance.

0:38 B-52! As it seems to be "randomly" bombing some forests/jungle, it seems to be a clip from the Vietnam War.

Carl Sagan, almost half as badass as Chuck Norris himself, which makes him billions of times more badass than any other human in history, except for Chuck Norris of course.

I think it's sad that heated arguments can surface in comments - I would hope you listen to the content of the video and think that the world deserves better treatment, that your humble peers wish to understand too.

This is the most important issue the human race has faced. If we go on like this, then as a species we will not survive .

the sad thing is that its the year 2010 and we still have cars that get 20 miles a gallon in the streets. 14 years after carl sagan died.

It's just sad to see how unefficiant and irresponsible humans are, its one thing to slowly kill the only home you have in the universe, but it's another to be 100% completely aware that you're doing it yet still continue. These choices won't affect anyone living on the planet right now and thats why MOST of us dont care, we've grown selfish and spoilt.

@videosfromderelix Humans just don't realize that we aren't necessary, we seem to think that if we can't survive, nothing can.

@videosfromderelix He is not simply throwing out theories and ideas for us to ponder, he teaches what he teaches as it is undeniable fact. Do not mistake the term "evolution theory" for example. In the scientific community evolution is not a theory but an established doctrine. This mistake is often made by creationists who failed to do their research.

  • @PortCarverton

@videosfromderelix naw I just used his lecture as a thought of what could happen if humans aren't careful. Pretending that we aren't doing any damage to the planet is ignorant.

i support carls ideas on beginning to rely on alternitive energy sources, however i dont think humanity is changing the climate as much as we think we are, sure it is true that releasing massive amounts of co2 and other gases into the atmosphere is not good for the planet, many other things are contributing to the warming of our planet that we cant control, so based on what ive read over time earth naturally goes through warming and cooling periods that cause the temperature to fluctuate

@wybo2 Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Religion exists because humans have a natural need to feel like there's someone in control of everything. If you can fulfill that need and keep humanity from destroying itself in the process, then you're doing your job. Hopefully we'll evolve, at least emotionally and culturally, to the point where simply surviving as a species will be reason enough to do what's right, rather than requiring the excuse or permission of God to do so.

@VexT916 Forget everything about global warming. Do you realize that with measures to prevent global warming we can secure a stable ecosystem, clean and cheaper energy, better use of natural resources... How can you say that that's bad in any case ? Even if you think global warming is a sham (which it is not), you should be actively supporting the measures to prevent it!!!!!!

Some proponents of religion delve into extremety, closing off their minds and permitting no chance of learning what Carl would call, elegent truths. And that's too bad. But to simply believe in a God might not be wrong, either. We know but a fraction of the universe, which I'm sure Carl would agree to (to some degree). We cannot forego a possible truth that there IS a God out there. Only until we disprove such a belief, a theory, an idea, with irrefuttable science, we have to still consider it.

He (and alot of other people) talk aboud nature as it is some kind of 'god'. You don't need to worship it, you can't have contact with it, BUT you need to pay respect for it. If you don't show respect for nature, it will turn its back on you and your gonna pay for it. Alot of people think in this way and before you rate this comment a minus one, please think aboud it, and ask yourselve if you don't think that way neither.

@videosfromderelix Maybe not in this video, but his "COSMOS" material is littered with hints and winks and suggestions. I was not born yesterday, it is not hard to conclude through his video material that this is what he believes. You are correct about your assumption, to get his view of the universe, you have to assume there is no God. If yo assume there is a God, your view of the universe will be very much different.

@madskillz1o1 serious? Wiki is God? You do realize if you set up a wiki user account you are free to add information or change it all by yourself sitting at home. Then some guy like you comes along that has no idea of that possibility and proclaims wiki as god....WOW!
