    I've watched this demo about 50 times, but for the first time I noticed something new. When you have those two running together, you shockingly do not lose note definition. At all. Fantastic demo, one of my favorites.

    Good review. In the first comparsion between the two pedals with the Les Paul, I much prefer the Lo-gain PlexiTone. I almost feel like the classic PlexiTone is too saturated, if there is such a thing. I feel the same when demoed with the Strat... It's funny, 'cause I play modern rock (think Foo Fighters, etc.), so you'd think I would prefer the more saturated tones of the classic PlexiTone...

  • @SimonGotthelfMusic

    I have always liked the plexitone but used it with the gain low. The new LO-gain is just what I wanted, more open and amp-like and I prefer that. More plexi tone to my ears. My old Vox saturates very easily so the original plexitone works better on the Carl Martin Roadie Bandmate or my Komet amp. But to give some plexi flavor to the AC30, the new LO-gain plexi is just great. Cheers

    Great video! I love the sound of my lo-gain, but now i would like to add also an high gain plexitone sound to my gear: is better to stack a single channel plexitone to the lo-gain or to sell the lo-gain for the original 3 channel version?

  • @SimonGotthelfMusic

    @SimonGotthelfMusic

    6 жыл бұрын

    needherliver 3 channel is great because of the added boost. However I prefer these smaller versions because of the 9V power and a slightly different voicing in the low end/Low mids. Cheers

  • @shaft9000

    I'm currently debating the lo-gain vs a Jetter Helium. Already have a Pinnacle which is nice for high gain, but it's lower gain ranges are just too damned narrow to reliably stack as well as I'd like. The slightest nudge to gain or volume makes a mess.

    Awesome video! I'm curious if you set the original plexitone pedal with the gain setting very low, does it sound like the Lo gain plexi? In other words, why have both pedals if the original pedal gives a lo gain tone when it's gain is set pretty low? Maybe they break up differently as gain is added?

  • @SimonGotthelfMusic

    @SimonGotthelfMusic

    4 жыл бұрын

    El Tigre Thanks man 🙏 The lo gain version was made for people who always use the original at low gain settings. It is easier to dial it in because of the longer range from clean to crunch on the low gain. On the original Plexi it quickly goes into full overdrive. The circuit is the same but I actually feel that they sound a little different though both are great. I prefer the original set low. It is just an awesome sound and if you need that extra gain it is there 😊 Cheers Simon

    Hello. Nice demo. As the voicings are the same, isn't the old version sounding the same on a low gain setting, as the lo-gain version?

  • @SimonGotthelfMusic

    @SimonGotthelfMusic

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Speedster5150 The Low gain version is like the old one with the gain under 9 o clock or so. So with the extended sweep of the lo gain is much easier to dial in. And the pedals feel a little different because the lo gain is not pushing the low end as much as the high gain version. It is cleaner and that makes a difference in dynamics

    I'm having trouble with the Plexi Tone. Seems like its too much of a boost. I like to keep my pedals at unity gain. Will the low gain pedal achieve this?

  • @SimonGotthelfMusic

    @SimonGotthelfMusic

    5 жыл бұрын

    Guitar Joe Probably. The Low gain version has a lot less gain and more control through the gain range. Amount of gain is similar to the CM ACtone. You can check out my latest comparison video of the Plexi and ACpedal. Cheers

    This was a great question. I was wondering that, too, so thanks for the answer, Simon. I'm only a hobbyist, so buying two "similar" pedals wasn't appealing to me. But I generally prefer classic rock/lower gain tones, so the Low Gain with a boost in front is a great solution. Many thanks for a great demo.

    Nice video! Which one do you think would pair best with a Marshall style amp that’s just 20 watts like the Friedman Little Sister? If you are running the amp with some light gain already, I assume you would you say the low-gain pedal?

    A bit late! TY For this post! I am curious ... you mention AC/DC but if you had to consider the following artists, wondering what pedals match them. Which pedal better approximates the "brown sound" from Van Halen's early records? And of the two, which pedal better approximates classic Hendrix sound? I "think" it'd be the Lo-Gain version but wondering if I'm matching them up correctly (or in the wrong ballpark).

  • @SimonGotthelfMusic

    @SimonGotthelfMusic

    Thank you. Well actually the early VH records didn’t have that much gain but just a lot of volume and of course Eddie. But I would go for the regular PT for those sounds any way. For classic Hendrix that would be too much gain though… For me the Hendrix sound is more loud and clean and then with a fuzz on top. That special combination of a very loud clean Marshall, a singlecoil and a low gain fuzz with great clean-up… Cheers Simon
