Carl M. Bender: PT Symmetry

Ойын-сауық

Title: PT Symmetry
Abstract: By using complex-variable methods one can extend conventional Hermitian quantum theories into the complex domain. The result is a huge and exciting new class of parity-time-symmetric (PT-symmetric) theories whose remarkable physical properties are currently under intense study by theorists and experimentalists. Many theoretical predictions have been verified in recent beautiful laboratory experiments.

For students of QM that have been told to "Shut up and calculate," this lecture will set you on a path to getting the hard questions answered.

28:39 but how did one get that plot? I tried the hamiltonian using finite difference methid in python but the plot is coming out terrible. Lmao.. It would be really helpful if any ideas can be spared. :)

55:44 , Why did he say If epsilon =2 my Hamiltonian is Hermitian? it's clearly not . I think it's just for epsilon >0, PT Symmetry is unbroken. someone please clarify if I misunderstood something here.

When epsilon is equal to two, you have H = p^2 - x^4, why is it not hermitian?
