There has been an intentional dumbing down of certain areas of the country's American education. Texas, for example, is making radical attempts for true history to not be taught. As in all autocracies, uneducated people are a lot easier to manipulate and control. We see that in 36% of our people who 1. Do not know history and therefore do not have critical thinking skills (such as knowing the differences between a rising authoritarian ruler, a socialist democracy, communism, empathy, serving those less fortunate than themselves, etc.). or 2. They are only immersed in their own world that tells them one way of seeing so they are not curious beyond their own dogma or 3. Are racists and/or wealthy and don't care about anything else except ME, ME, ME..That is individualism gone totally awry. Educated people learn how to participate in a fair democracy based on agreed upon truths with checks and balances, and fairness for all the people. We need free education right now with highly trained and paid teachers who understand and can also teach social justice and reparations in this country. We need major revamping of our educational systems. We should also have a mandatory year of service of some kind, away from home, between high school and college, here and abroad to grow the eff up and see beyond one's nose and backyard.

We need to find abused, neglected children before they fall through the cracks. Cops are not social workers, Prisons are not psychiatric hospitals. We cheap out on the tools that can clearly create a better society for everyone.

I never thought this country could stoop lower than the Watergate crisis. I was a young teenager when I, along with my grandmother watched on Friday evening, Nixon resign the presidency. It was a chilling night. My grandmother was enraged, screaming at the television. I kept trying to quiet her because I couldn’t understand what was happening. Then the following morning when Nixon made his farewell speech to staff, walked across the lawn to Marine One, waved and left, it gave me a feeling of fear. Several weeks later as the news of president Ford’s pardon was announced over my parents car radio, they were equally disgusted. I never imagined this country could go almost over night from 8 years of the Obama administration, to 4 years of chaos. I remember thinking the GOP would never elect someone who was so obviously so sick. I recall the party in such disarray during the campaign year, that nobody in the upper leadership of the party would back him. Then the unthinkable happened and he had the nomination. Suddenly everyone was bowing down to him, backing whatever nightmare proposal came from his mouth. It’s still shocking. Family and friends who always supported my husband and I suddenly turned their backs on us, all in the name of politics. After being a couple for 25 years and given the privilege of marrying, we suddenly felt unsafe in our home. The week after the election in 2016, we felt we needed security cameras installed on our home. Everything courtesy of trump. He has no shame because he has no conscience. He’s broken up families, and caused deaths. The GOP is nothing but a bunch of cowards. They refuse to accept how their vicious thirst for power has ruiend the country. I’ve never understood the mentality of wanting people to be as miserable as they are. I fear we’ve passed the point of no return. The GOP doesn’t want an investigation of January 6 because they will be the guilty ones, they know it and it’s breathing down their necks. It’s all so sad. I hope we can recover as a nation from this. I fear we won’t.

I guess what I'm saying is that Donald Trump's actions, couched in his total lack of ethics or conscience is so much worse than what Nixon did, yet shockingly, Trump persists! Now we see him swaggering around after having been impeached twice and not being bothered by it, with no pardon from his successor, and he has yet to be indicted or arrested for the many crimes we all WITNESSED. When you have a group of people destroying other citizens businesses and property along with police cars and stations it has to be stopped. Everyone has the right to protest and nobody has the right to riot. Please tell me your smart enough to tell the difference?

@@kathynj447 you say Trump admires Putin but ask yourself what did Putin every get out of Trump or vise versa? On the other hand let's take a look at the past few months and the Biden administration. Allows Russian hackers to get away with multiple cyber attacks, approval of a major pipeline connecting Form Russia to Germany creating billions of income for Russia while canceling the keystone xl pipeline in Noth America causing the loss of eleven thousand jobs.

I've generally felt his authoritarian goals aren't concrete or ambitious enough to be fascism. As long as people tell him he's great, he doesn't seem to care what happens with the country. I've adopted the term "narcissocracy" to describe his brand of politics.

The ancient Sumerian's had a word for the "strong man" referred to here. It was "Lugal". These tended to be narcissistic men, with a hunger for power, and prone to violence. We may have to give that ancient word a rebirth into our English vocabulary, since the English "strong man" may somehow seem a compliment; feeding into the narcissist's ego, and into the minds of his adorants.
