Carillon: The Bells of St. Martin's, Glandford
Музыка
Overlooking the quaint village of Glandford, Norfolk stands the beautiful St. Martin's Church, which was constructed from ruins of an older building by Sir Alfred Jodrell at the turn of the 20th Century.
One of its unique delights is that of a 12-bell carillon, which automatically plays a hymn tune on the strike of every third hour.
A different hymn is played each day. The tune played in this video is that of "Jerusalem on High".
Often heard but not seen, this video is a rare treat as it shows the carillon's workings in action.
Thanks go to the Churchwardens Robin Combe and Mick Gill, who granted me permission to make this film.

Whenever I'm near a church and it's noon or 6 PM, I always stop and listen to the bells chime. Sadly, many churches are replacing their carillons with pre-recorded church bells.

Robin Brown How can you tell when it’s pre recorded?

@@xthunder_164 I don't know exactly but I do know that many churches have switched to using recordings of bells over speakers. I have noticed that the broadcasted pre-recordings of bells don't sound as pure or clear
Thank you so much for this upload! I adore church bell sounds. Magnificent and magical. Such wonderful filming! Indeed, it is a very rare treat! Bravo!
Great cinematography
Amazing!
I love it

This is a good source for chiming music: sites.google.com/site/ellacombechimes/#Sources
This sounds a lot like at Paul in sale!
Does the drum hold all 7 tunes on it or does it get changed out daily?

It holds all 7 and I presume shifts incrementally sideways to line them up. It's been out of action for several months though- not sure who's looking after it these days. 😐

@@ChrisRichmond the songs must be short enough to be able to play 3 times daily. Ive seen videos of carillon drums in the uk that play the songs 3 times in a row when activated, and still play 7 different tunes 3 times daily

Admittedly, it was a super close-up shot! It's amazing how much the hands of a tower clock wobble in the wind! (See my video of Blakeney bell)

@@ChrisRichmond only the 11th is used for full circle ringing
...
It's 12 bells so technically it's a chime... A carillon is 23 or more
One of the hammers is not working and two others are very badly adjusted. Suspect it won't be running for much longer without som le TLC

You are correct! It did get fixed (this video was from 2018) but it was out of action last year and haven't been down there since to see if it has been fixed again. The custodian of Bayfield Hall passed away a year or two ago (Robin Combe) so I'm not sure of the current situation. It's a great thing to have hidden away in the tower though! 😊
Next time when the clock. Finish can change the song to dance away these days from harp fin please.
