Cargo Trailer Camper Conversion - Black Water Tank Install

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In my Cargo Trailer Camper Conversion project, I'm adding a black water tank so I can install a toilet.
In this video I mount the black water tank and add basic plumbing fixtures.
I'm no expert! So I'd love to hear feedback!

Good attitude with the comments, you replied to the criticisms well. It’s already been said about the strapping having rubber or something, home depot has 1/8” steel plates that are 4 to 6 inches wide that you could easily bend to fit then use the same steel to make a u-shaped or a square shape to use instead of the wood and to brace between frame rails you can use the same bolts that the steel strap/brace is being used, use bigger bolts and use auto quality bolts they are heat treated and much stronger, use lock washers and thick hard rubber between the plastic tank like a old car tire cut up. I don’t think you’ll have major problems with how you did it to be honest but i wouldn’t buy your trailer if i saw that it would be a deal breaker sorry just being honest.

Honestly, I like using my 5 gallon bucket with a 13 gallon trash bag and a nice wooden toilet seat. No mess ,no black crap you have to smell and mess to deal with. Bonus....more room inside ,no water waste and no toilet to buy.

This was helpful. I have a 20 foot enclosed trailer I want to convert into an RV. ive seen fresh water, grey and black tanks but all too big to fit in the spaces of my trailers frame. From the floor to the bottom of the frame is only 6 inches and the space where I want the bathroom to be, the space is only 16x20. Im not sure if i can cut down sections of frame to accommodate at least a 26 gallon grey and black tank.

This is awesome man. Are you worried about the tanks bottoming out? This is one of the best videos I've found. Really appreciate it.

They are a bit lower than I'd like, but they are close to the trailer axel, so I don't think it will be a problem for most roads

What brand toilet is that? Looks good. Just needs a couple mods per comments. Where did you get the tank?

Did you put the vent through the wall or roof? What happened to the straps when you filled the black tank with water?

So the water for the toilet is coming from the tank to the right? And is that water the same water you use for the shower?

You should really put some semi gas tank rubber strapping on that metal so you don’t prematurely wear out your gray water tank

Scaring me with not putting rubber between the straps and the tank. Otherwise, looks good.

Yeah, I definitely need to go back and add a guard between the straps and the tank. Thanks for the input!

I'd be a little worried about that tank configuration, remember this is on a trailer that is going to be bouncing and shifting constantly with significant weight. I would at least cover the straps with something that will keep it from wearing through the plastic tank, and replace those wood blocks with something a bit more substantial and tighten up those straps.. If you were to get in an accident you don't want your black tank flying down the road.

Thanks for the feedback! Especially the point about covering the straps. It shouldn't be too hard to replace the braces with something substantial either

Treat it like a gas tank. Buy better straps and rubber blocks or ridged foam.Wood will rot within a few years. Don't like the clean out that low. I've bottomed my construction cargo trailer out all the time in driveways in the last 25 years. Had to Installed casters to protect frames and driveways. Cargo trailers are lower to eliminate swaying. Next time use ABS primer and glue. Guaranteed not to leak. Caulking breaks down in a few years. All in all great job 👍 👏 🙌 👌 Construction trailer concept is great.

I'm thinking that maybe instead of the wood blocking to drop the tank below the center beam, that you might instead use unistrut. Then threaded rod with a turnbuckle to a lower layer of unistrut that you can cinch up. Will drop you clearance a little, but looks like it would still be above the axle clearance. Very informative video. Thanks for teaching us new things before we tackle it ourselves.

Hate to say it, but those straps aren't tight enough, or heavy duty enough for this installation.

Please don't speed it up. Let it play out regular speed. Need to see what you're doing like I was in shop class. I have no idea what you just did bc I couldn't see it. Wish you'd have explained everything in detail. Especially the grommet?

I honestly wouldn't trust that installation for more than one mile. Do you know the weight of a gallon of water? Strong metal brackets should be WELDED TO THE FRAME, with a rubber insulating material between the strap and tank.

14 gallons is like 120 lbs. sooo those bolts will be perfectly fine, it’s not a half ton or anything. More concerning would be metal to plastic rubbing and the wood rotting out long before the tank rips the bolts out.

Welding is not necessary at all. Just size the structure elements for 2-3X the weight and you should be fine.
