@aliabdelaziz905 very true like most of the older collection boxes you're paying for the promo that if it grades a 10 it's typically the cost of the entire collection box; ei. The umbreon and darkai gx & espeon and deoxy collection boxes

I Will never understand booster prices for evolutions and Shining legends. Both went up in Price from one day to another for no good reason. Raw prices just keeps falling.

This would have been great information about 3 months agobwhen Japnese prices were peaking. Now the screams and others are back down to their original price pre-June.

wow good timing with the video as I was thinking about selling some stuff off. I sold most of my Evolutions BB for $700 a couple of years ago, 1 left. And that last one hasn't really moved in value, I think it might be time to just sell it off.

I have an EX Deoxys pack that I literally found while hunting in Target back in 2020 (going under shelves) it was one of the craziest moments ever. It also weighs heavy. I am going to wait until the 20th anniversary to open it. I’ll record you and tag you in it ! Wish me luck man ✌️

Thats why it makes sense, these are basic principles of supply and demand People hold supply, price starts to rise, people see the rise and buy more. Early people sell some supply, price stagnates. If a big holder (whale) wants to unload, the prices drop dramatically, like reprints. (to much supply, causing people to panic, result = more supply) People want new stuff so they sell old stuff, price stagnates longer or crashes in some cases. We either see reaccumulation over long times or redistribution (look up the difference) Look how human nature works, you'll understand. Its literally how the stock market works, silver/gold, crypto, etc Fundamentals = key.

Thank you. I have over 2000 cards from 1999 to 2010. I want to sell it off, but I will wait a year or two to start.

As I have 8 auctions up for vintage graded slabs lol. I know it's not a great time but I want the liquidity to put into other cards that I like more ( also vintage ). Good comment though, if I didn't need the money I would just hold until the market improves....That being said, I don't know how much the vintage market is going to improve in the long term.

Nothing after Evolutions is good long term hold. In the long run, there will be a huge dump on current modern cards.

Hi Jake! You talking about modern japanese promos, but what about yu nagaba eevolutions? Are they dropping down in price too? Especially in psa10?

F.. I had it exactly go the other way around. Before I left Japan, I got some Eevee Heroes Eeveelutions because I didn't know when I was going to come back. And right at that time their value tripled..but oh well^^

Hm munch is one of the most unique cards ever. I see them at 30-50k in 2030.

It’s always interesting to me when people pick an $800 booster box to demonstrate how prices don’t always go up… 🤔 It wasn’t that long ago Evolutions boxes were sub $100… Obviously, if you bought at their peak it’s no good, but those who bought early are happy 🤷‍♂️

In my example you could have sold the evolutions booster box 2 years ago and bought 4 team up booster boxes. So instead of having $800 you could have a $8k collection. Obviously that's hindsight.

Dude a PSA 10 and 9 CAN be vastly different!!! I've seen more questionable PSA 10s than an actual looking 10!

Evolutions went up in value so quickly in 2020 but the singles are still cheap. I think thats why it hasnt gone up much in 3 years it went up in 5 years worth of value in a few months back in 2020. I also think burning shadows will go up in price just because people want to chase that mint rainbow zard which is very very difficult to do.

I was able to get 3 copies of the worlds pickachu ex deck, I’ve seen it sell for £160-220. I’ll keep one but should I hold the others?

price is just gonna keep crashing. keep grading till you get 2-3 10s. sell the 9s to pay for new copies. these style of cards do unbelievably well 5-10 years down the road (example psa 10 value on mario pikachu’s, xy89, world championship 2011 pikachu ex, etc

There is an illusion currently in the hobby that XY Evo and S&M sets have worse EV that S&S sets. Crunch the pull rates and cards value from these sets into a sheet and you will be surprised. XY Evo and Cosmic Eclipse have better EV than most Alt Art sets from S&S (even when you look at EV/market value ratio). This is not to say that EV is what drives value of a bb up, it’s only one factor

Yeah I've sold off many PSA 10's just to pick up 3 other PSA 9's of other cards that I like.

Agree with your overall takes! One question though. You say older sets like xy aren’t as desirable due to the new Alt arts. But what if in 2-3 years there’s a new art style and now alt arts aren’t desirable and all the SH sets aren’t popular or moving. I think any set that has fan favorites and chases are what makes a good investment. Like hidden fates. No alt arts yet still popular.

Yes that's always a risk. The most wow set today might be a boring set in a few years

To your first point, I definitely see booster boxes as an investment. Not to keep forever. You buy, wait for higher value then sell and take that profit to buy the cards you want.

I have 6 XY evo boxes i bought for $170 each. Should i sell 1 and buy a case if silver tempest boxes?

Not that interested? Yet, each box costs between 800 and 400 dollars. How does that work?

I want the scream cards because they are beautiful works of art and y’all are just selling them cause they are too expensive.

Unfortunately even vintages cards haven't even close to hit bottoms yet. This is the frothiest bubble of an economy the world has ever seen mathematically and we're technically on year 14 of the most artificial bull market in history. We're going into a depression with higher unemployment than 2008, as well as a worse housing crash. People are going to unload their Pokemon "investments" faster than you can even imagine over the coming 3-4 years. The only 3 sets I'd buy right now are Celebrations, Crown Zenith (at a discount) and Hidden Fates. I think every other sealed product will go down significantly. Celebrations is the set with the most potential to skyrocket in the entire hobby.

Celebrations? Set was barely any good. I can see hidden fates and CZ but no way celebrations becomes the go to set.

@@matthewbenton11 That's what people thought about both Generations and Evolutions as well, until it started to become scarce. I also remember when Team Up and the other Tag Team sets came out, everyone was ragging on those arts saying they were a weak idea, hence why they stayed cheap for 2+ years, only recently skyrocketing. Celebrations is both a vintage reprint set and an anniversary set, and neither of those things stay cheap for long. Celebrations is also the only set in existence with all 3 base set starter holos, gold stars, Shinings, Neo series holos, EX's, and Birthday Pikachu. My guess is it triples in value within 3 years.

@@enthused7591 maybe sealed but the singles in those sets did not hold. But we will see with celebrations tho. This past bull run was way different than any other period in Pokémon and don’t forget 9.7 billion cards were printed which is more than the first 10 years of Pokémon card existence combined in just one year. There is also a factor of who are you selling to? Is our generation which I grew up with Pokémon as a kid really going to care about Pokémon cards at 40,50 plus. Is the next generation going to care? I’m not sure I’m also just talking things out and something worth thinking about.

Comparing team up to evolutions has got to be one of the most extreme examples to make. Team Up has had very booster box prints compared with other sets and especially with a set like evolutions. So obviously there wasn't enough supply to meet demand. You know this as well so it's so silly to make such an example. Fact of the matter age is linked to supply at the end of the day, if they'd come out with a million ex power keepers booster boxes tomorrow, it wouldn't keep selling at the price it's going now forever. Konami has done something similar with the 25th anniversary boxes of the original 2002 sets and IOC. As long as there's ample stock, they won't be selling with prices like their original versions. It doesn't matter if their contents are from 2002.

Team Up, including booster boxes, had plenty of print runs. It, like every other set back then, sat on the shelves with no fear of sell outs and was readily available in any quantity someone may have wanted to order. You can't argue "well there wasn't enough supply to meet demand" about a demand that randomly came years after the set went out of print because people started desiring tag team cards.

You must not have been collecting when team up was around. they had plenty of print. Actually over printed so much that the ETBs would clearence out at target for 20$ And booster boxes were going for 70-80$. I would know, I ripped ALOT of it...but didnt keep any sealed :-/

I disagree with you Jake on factoring lack of expensive chase cards as a main driver for minimal booster box future growth. Look at all sets from D&P to XY. In almost all cases no single chase card equals a fraction of the bb price. XY Evo went up in price because of nostalgia of opening base set (which will never get old). No other modern set can give you that (not even celebrations)

Also, if we are talking EV (expected value) of cards inside a bb. XY Evo pull rates are way better than S&S Alt Art sets. You might open a case of ES costing you $2500 and only pull 2 Alt Arts and neither of them is Moonbreon, while with XY Evo you are likely to get Multiple Holo, Reverse and Mega Zards along other hits form the set from opening a case

Like just to compare, Holo Zard pull rate from XY Evo is 1/79. On the other hand, the pull rate for Moonbreon is 1/2000! So if you were to open 2000 packs of XY Evo you get ~25 Holo Zards ($1,250 raw values) while you only get 1 Moonbreon ($500 raw) from opening 2000 ES packs!

Of course this doesn’t necessarily mean XY Evo has better value than ES. But my point is value of chase cards inside is only one factor of my a bb might go up in value. You also have pack opening experience, popularity over time, print run….etc

P.S. even if you factor in “gambling” aspect of opening a bb so you can make money pulling a chase card and selling it for profit, XY Evo would look slightly better. If you were to somehow pull a Moonbreon and grading it a PSA 10 you can sell it for $1000 while if you were to pull a Holo Zard and grading it a 10 (although very hard) you would get $2500. Again in both case you are likely to loose money opening a bb, but there is illusion currently in the hobby that XY and S&M have worse EV that S&S

Mate sometimes you just talk filler to make a video. Some sets from XY and Sun and Moon didn't climb up? You have to be joking. I'll be happy even if you can find me any XY era box for 200 euros. The evolutions booster box you've shown didn't come out at $700. Just because some sets are in more demand a than others doesn't mean sets from 10 years ago are getting cheaper. Evolutions remained stagnant because it shot up so much for no reason, people realised more stock exists and that's way it remains mostly stagnant now. You won't be finding it at $150 like new sets though that's for sure.

You missed his point. He isn’t saying they are getting cheaper, they are just not growing like other parts of the hobby. Would you rather have 5 XY evolutions boxes that grow 20% over 5 years or 5 cases of Lost Origins thst grows 200% over that time

@@DerekJ23 Your example is also a very illogical one. When did I buy said products and how much did I pay? What you buy matters for sure but also when you bought and what's the landscape of supply and demand. LKike he said team up is way more valuable than evolutions but this is largely due to it's limited total booster box supply. If you reverse their stocks around the story would be much different. Personally, I'm not interested in either of these sets and I've made sure to collect cards from the ex and dp eras that have always been my favorites.

The vintage market IS NOT at its bottom for the top chase cards, like gold stars or crystal cards. On the contrary, these prices have only slowly risen over time. It is absolute misinformation to keep repeating that the vintage market is cheaper than ever. MAYBE certain vintage cards have seen a lowering of prices, but as far as I’ve seen that’s an exception, not a rule.

The vintage market as a whole is Down. Yes the top cards are up and will always keep a steady climb because of the Demand/Supply. But overall you can pick up decent copies of base set/fossil/jungle holos for fairly cheap now. Especially compared to where they were a couple years ago

@@TuProGames This is 100% true, I've been following those 3 sets for awhile and every holo in those 3 + team rocket has come down in price. ESPECIALLY non psa 10 copies, if your willing to buy 9s which I am then you have opportunity to pickup most of these holo's for around 100$.

Stop the cap bruh, 3 years ago evolutions was not going for $800 a box. I bought 10 evolutions booster boxes two years ago for $280 a piece. So stop lying bruh.
