Great review. If I’m going to plug in my own earbuds to the unit, and I don’t care about FM radio or Bluetooth range or battery, would the Spirit be the best to get then spending the extra $$ for the Spirit HD?

Great Question and Suggestion Here - You'd be correct that in your case there's no reason to spend the extra money on the HD. The Sprit will work great for you.

Hi, great review! I was wondering what kind of plug does the mic have? Is this some Cardo specific connector or will I be able to get a third party replacement if it fails?

Probably easier to replace with a direct Cardo mic. Not sure what connector it uses.

Not familiar with the Q1. I believe the Spirit would have better speakers.

Yes it does, you can always upgrade down the road

So how is the music quality? Does it get nice and loud? Stay fairly clear? I have $200 to get a dual pack. Should I spend the extra to get the HD's or should the base spirit model be enough if music is my first and foremost consern?

Hey Jeremiah, The spirit has a great set of HD speakers, that would be great for music. Of course you can always upgrade to the JBL speakers that cardo offers, but the HD speakers of the box should be great for music.

Don't buy these if you want good music quality. There is NO bass at all leaving painful treble sound. Try the HD's as the sound from these is awful.

I have also found that you can get SLIGHTLY better sound if you do use the little pillow pads to get the speakers closer to your ears. Like the old walkman headphones, the further away from your ears they get, the worse they sound. Looking at the JBL upgrade... According to the feature matrix, you won't get any additional sound options with the Spirit line. The equalizer and enhanced audio only seem to be applicable to the more expensive units when paired to the JBL speakers. Also, those speakers will double your investment cost.

The speakers are okay if you just want to chat with other people but are absolutely horrible for music. As said before, it hurts my ears.

Can you run the intercom and music at the same time on this?

Yes you can.

How is the quality of the sound when you are talking to someone via intercom and your running around 80kph? Some intercoms are having issues when you are running more than 80kph.

That answer will vary drastically depending on the machine, helmet and windscreen. If you're concerned about audio quality we'd highly recommend upgrading to the Cardo Spirit HD.
