^^ And the UK has made some important additions over the years to the genre on the whole. "28 Days Later" (for example) is where the "running rage zombies" emerged as a trope. I'd also recommend a TV series from the UK called "Dead Set" which, as I recall, is 5 episodes long and it aired over 5 consecutive nights back in 2008, with the premise being that the main action occurs on the set of the reality TV show "Big Brother". This series was created and written by Charlie Brooker.

0:15 -- RE: "I have to gas myself up to watch this..."; A: The funny part for us the Audience is knowing the film from having watched it already but also remembering how fookin' kick-arse it is. The first 10 minutes of this movie are super effective for the suspension of disbelief, in my opinion, and that includes the slow-motion opening titles. This movie also subverts expectations in some subtle and effective ways; it isn't required to have an up-beat ending in a zombie film, for example, but "Zombieland" managed to thread that needle in a compelling and entertaining way.

The only difference between this film and true horror films is the laughs between the scary scenes. This movie has enough jump scenes, gore, and scary imagery to be put on the same level of horror and gore as many (not all) "true" horror films. I think if you watched a few more dark comedies/comedy horror films like Shaun of the Dead (absolutely hilarious film) and reminded yourself that these are all actors on a set making a piece of art meant to elicit specific emotions, you could get through most horror films fairly unscathed.

Great reaction Nat, you sweet summer child! I think it's only fair to give you a few more horror/comedies and goofball, cheese fest, horror movies to aid in your acclamation or just for when you need a break from the proper horror films to come. To that end, I give you the following: Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, two modern classics starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Young Frankenstein, is an all time classic by Mel Brooks, written by and starring Gene Wilder, in one of the best comedies ever put to film. While not on par with Young Frankenstein, Mel's other horror parody, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, is a good choice after you watch Bram Stroker's Dracula. Killer Klowns from Outer Space a late 80's cult classic, it's just a campy, cheesy, fever dream of a good time, that's gotten renewed interest with the new video game coming out. And now for the undisputed king of schlocky, cheesy, B-movie, horror/comedy, Bruce Campbell! The original Evil Dead movies are the very definition of low budget, cheesy, horror movies with some great comedic elements, but the 3rd film, Army of Darkness, is where they really lean into the camp, cheese and comedy, the movie is a gold mine of epic and iconic one liners. The follow up series, also starring Bruce Campbell, Ash vs Evil Dead, is the ultimate mix of horror and comedy, with a stellar cast. I also have to recommend Bruce's, indescribable hit, Bubba Ho Tep, a movie that defies explanation and the incredibly meta, My Name is Bruce, which should only be watched after you've seen the Evil Dead movies and Army of Darkness, since it's filled with references and nods to the franchise. P.S. After you watch Alien, you should watch Mel Brooks hilarious Star Wars parody, Spaceballs, which has a great Alien gag in one of the scenes. And after you get through the second film Aliens, you can watch, Paul, a buddy, road trip, adventure movie filled with sci-fi references, starring once again Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

I'd have to agree to some degree that films like the exorcist could be a bit much for someone not particularly used to the genre, but at the same time everyone reacts to different types of horror differently. What could be terrifying to one person may not be so bad for others. Sometimes people watch a psychological/supernatural horror films like "Jacob's Latter" or "Suspiria"(2018) aren't as affected by it, but adores films that primarily rely on jump scaring them for 90 minutes. It does kinda depend on the person's understanding of what style of horror is set in. Comedy Horror like this, "Tucker & Dale vs Evil", "Krampus"(there's a ton of low budget Krampus movies but the one I'm talking about is a fairly recent one with Toni Collette in it) , or even "Warm Bodies" are all pretty good introductions to the genre as they usually aren't too scary or gory for general viewers.

This film is one of my favorite horror comedies of all time. If you can handle this one, then you can easily handle Shaun of the Dead, which is another one of favorites, and it pays tribute to the original zombie film that started them all called dawn of the dead which is from the 1960s so I wouldn't say its particularly scary whatsoever. If you have never seen ghostbusters or you only saw it as a little kid, I would definitely recommend it. Also, if you are looking for a more serious zombie that isn't too scary, I would recommend train to busan. Alien is an excellent film, just be prepared.

I loved this movie. I really like the characters. If there was a zombie apocalyse, I would love to have them with me. There is a sequel and it's even better than the first. I highly recommend it!

To sort of ease yourself into 'the Genre' as we call it, you may prefer to start off with some of the fine horror comedies or parodies available. Three of my favorites are "Parents", "Fido", and "Dracula: Dead and Loving It".

Another great reaction. So glad you enjoyed it. I had to watch it in two half's cos I had to go to stupid work but I finally finished it. I made the first comment about Alien when I first put your video on and saw you had started watching horror movies. I was so pumped when you mentioned watching Alien at the end. I'm not going to lie the first Alien was scary as hell when I first watched it, but then again it was 1988 and I was 6. But if you can survive the first one then you are treated to Aliens (the Sequel). And that is far less scary and much more action orientated. Both are equally amazing in there own right. If you watch the first one make sure to watch the theatrical cut, it's just better. And if you watch Aliens then it is very important you watch the special edition. The extra scenes improve the movie in every way. Anyway that's a long post so I'll shut up now. Great to see your beautiful face again. Keep up the awesome work, and I'm looking forward to your next one :D

If you haven’t seen it yet, you should react to Seven (Starring Brad Pitt & Morgan Freeman). It’s dark, but it also does a good job of leaving the worst up to your imagination. And a great soundtrack as a bonus.

Good on ya' for braving the scare! I'm proud of you! as said in your livestream, Aliens was enjoyable even as one like me who doesn't do horror, so that is a good pick for the next one. Do be warned though, since it's an older movie, it is rather "slow" moving. I think that is a thing to be mindful of going in.

I was kind of hoping you would come out in some zombie makeup..but you didn't, but then I had to wonder, was your black top the same top that Mia Wallace was wearing in "Pulp Fiction" the same pattern when she had to be brought back from the dead of an overdose!? If you indeed went that deep, or just got lucky, blew my mind!! Love your reviews, keep them up!

As usual, LOVED your reaction! And congrats on dipping your toe into the shallower waters of horror. Now, I know you want to go deeper but be very careful. You can't unsee the really scary stuff. And by all means, NEVER watch "The Exorcist" or "The Thing". Not everyone is meant to see those types of films. And I'd hate for you to experience the nightmares they could conjure. I think "Alien" may be ok, but it's a close call. Take care.

You should try some classic horror films from Universal studios. There is some "horror" but it's not so much blood and gore. It's very melodramatic and most people will find it quite tame. But they are the basis for a century's worth of "monsters", so they have at least some cultural relevance. Personally, I love them but it's hard to call them horror per se given the current conception of horror.
