He also didnt have the same sense of superiority over religious folk that you and many others in the comments appear to have. Actually, he doesn't. Sin is not even mentioned in the Adam and Eve story. That's just a common theological misrepresentation of the book of Genesis. It's also probably more common among Evangelicals than Catholics with proper introduction to the bible. Having said that, the proper interpretation of Genesis unearths another inconvenient fact... the people who wrote about sin later in the bible, especially in the NT, either never read Genesis or if they did, they deliberately falsified its meaning because it didn't fit their agenda. That was an easy thing to do because their audience definitely never had access to a copy of Genesis that they could actually read in the original language.

Adam and Eve is a mythical story. This is a form of literature which attempts to explain events which happened before recorded human history. The author of Genesis is trying to convey some sense of the freedom from suffering and death the human race enjoyed before their loss of innocence and fall from grace.

@@jameshogan6142 Yes, that is exactly what the Adam and Eve myth is not about. Adam and Eve are born as children, innocent and protected. They learn and grow up, which means they discover their sexuality and they have to take on adult responsibility (work for the man to support his family, the pains of child-bearing for the woman). Eventually they grow old and die. What you are giving us here is theological bullshit that was introduced way later.

Pell doesn't claim to be a scientist. Richard Dawkiins, a very intelligent man for whom I have a great deal of respect, scores a lot of points from fallacious beliefs in organised religions, but that is not what he should be setting out to do. He denies the existence of a supreme being. Science does not prove that a supreme being doesn't exist. It is impossible to prove either that a 'God'' does exist or doesn't exist.

It's like some of the other parables in the Bible, e.g. the good Samaritan was not an historical figure but is employed as a literary metaphor to teach people how to care for one another. The story of the prodigal son shows that forgiveness can be obtained by even people that have led sinful lives. The story of Adam and Eve is similarly how the author of Genesis explains the mystery of Sin , death, decay, sickness, and suffering in the world. It is like poetry or art paintings depict abstract subjects such as Love, Courage, bereavement, loneliness etc. We absorb their meaning without saying that they are not valid because they are not scientific.

If you survive famine/war/plagues, will you take the beast's microchip in your hand and its tattoo of a fine gold bar to use its money? Everyone will know it's slavery to the beast. Those with faith will choose to die, again. Those who fear the beast will comply, and then a few years later will regret their choice. Interesting times ahead for mankind.

We simply do not know what was before the singularity (an infinite small point of pure energy) that "exploded and formed the universe". Most Theists on the other hand pretend to use logic by saying there has to be a creator, since "something can not come from nothing" but they are absolutely fine with claiming that their creator didn't need a creator. And yes you could claim that your creator is eternal (without any proof at all, as usual!!) but then your whole argument becomes even more idiotic, since we could claim the same about the energy that was "compressed" in said singularity. Stop using that strawman argument. It only shows how deliberatly ignorant some Theists are. It's the Theists that claim something came from nothing, not the scientists.

The Dark Realm Diaries. So do you believe that a group of 200 plus pre humans (whatever they were) all somehow miraculously developed the same genetic mutations which were accepted by there own immune systems to allow this group to all become human at exactly the same time? I have done some research into this and I haven't found any geneticist who believes this could be possible. Logically at some point there had to be a first human, and then a second, and a third and so on.

*Cardinal Pell should read the book properly, it was Darwin's biography not autobiography, Darwin was not an atheist. The death of his beloved daughter Annie at the age of 10 from tuberculosis in 1851 confirmed his atheism.* _“This conclusion was strong in my mind about the time, as far as I can remember, when I wrote the Origin of Species; and it is since that time that it has very gradually with many fluctuations become weaker. But then arises the doubt-can the mind of man, which has, as I fully believe, been developed from a mind as low as that possessed by the lowest animal, be trusted when it draws such grand conclusions? May not these be the result of the connection between cause and effect which strikes us as a necessary one, but probably depends merely on inherited experience? Nor must we overlook the probability of the constant inculcation in a belief in God on the minds of children producing so strong and perhaps an inherited effect on their brains not yet fully developed, that it would be as difficult for them to throw off their belief in God, as for a monkey to throw off its instinctive fear and hatred of a snake.”_ *Darwin was referring to the errors in evolution at the time when modern technology did not exist; today evolution can be seen in a way Darwin would have been overwhelmed with. It was because of the lack of modern science he could only see what he though was instability in his theory. Today it can be proven he was on the right track.* _“or must we overlook the probability of the constant inculcation in a belief in God on the minds of children producing so strong and perhaps an inherited effect on their brains not yet fully developed, that it would be as difficult for them to throw off their belief in God, as for a monkey to throw off its instinctive fear and hatred of a snake.”_ *This statement has been grossly misinterpreted as the answer to Darwin’s statement is in the word “inculcation” it means s to teach through frequent instruction. If you repeatedly tell someone how important it is to be responsible, then you're trying to inculcate in him a sense of responsibility. So if you frequently tell a child there is a god, that child will believe there is a god without question (indoctrination); to which he compared to the indoctrination to a monkey and a snake.* *An inherited experience is what is experienced down the line of one’s ancestry; families adhering to the same religion from generation to generation are known as inherited followers so an inherited experience would be of a person living through fear or admiration of their religion brought upon by generations of indoctrination.* _“Another source of conviction in the existence of God, connected with the reason and not with the feelings, impresses me as having much more weight. This follows from the extreme difficulty or rather impossibility of conceiving this immense and wonderful universe, including man with his capacity of looking far backwards and far into futurity, as the result of blind chance or necessity. When thus reflecting I feel compelled to look to a First Cause having an intelligent mind in some degree analogous to that of man; and I deserve to be called a Theist.”_ *When Darwin wrote this paragraph he was taken literally by theists as evidence in his own words that he was a theist; he was not.* *The following is the full statement, not the reader’s digest version manipulated to support theism, and to falsely imply that Darwin was a theist.* *Pages 93-95.* *_“This conclusion was strong in my mind about the time, as far as I can remember, when I wrote the Origin of Species; and it is since that time that it has very gradually with many fluctuations become weaker. Nor must we overlook the probability of the constant inculcation in a belief in God on the minds of children producing so strong and perhaps an inherited effect on their brains not yet fully developed, that it would be as difficult for them to throw off their belief in God, as for a monkey to throw off its instinctive fear and hatred of a snake.”_* *_“I cannot pretend to throw the least light on such abstruse problems. The mystery of the beginning of all things is insoluble by us; and I for one must be content to remain an Agnostic. (This portion was written in a letter to Francis Darwin (who was editing the autobiography), by Emma Darwin and not actually written by Charles Darwin).”_* *_“A man who has no assured and ever present belief in the existence of a personal God or of a future existence with retribution and reward, can have for his rule of life, as far as I can see, only to follow those impulses and instincts which are the strongest or which seem to him the best ones. A dog acts in this manner, but he does so blindly. A man, on the other hand, looks forwards and backwards, and compares his various feelings, desires and recollections. He then finds, in accordance with the verdict of all the wisest men that the highest satisfaction is derived from following certain impulses, namely the social instincts. If he acts for the good of others, he will receive the approbation of his fellow men and gain the love of those with whom he lives; and this latter gain undoubtedly is the highest pleasure on this earth. By degrees it will become intolerable to him to obey his sensuous passions rather than his higher impulses, which when rendered habitual may be almost called instincts. His reason may occasionally tell him to act in opposition to the opinion of others, whose approbation he will then not receive; but he will still have the solid satisfaction of knowing that he has followed his innermost guide or conscience.-As for myself I believe that I have acted rightly in steadily following and devoting my life to science. I feel no remorse from having committed any great sin, but have often and often regretted that I have not done more direct good to my fellow creatures. My sole and poor excuse is much ill-health and my mental constitution, which makes it extremely difficult for me to turn from one subject or occupation to another. I can imagine with high satisfaction giving up my whole time to philanthropy, but not a portion of it; though this would have been a far better line of conduct.”_* *_“Nothing is more remarkable than the spread of scepticism or rationalism during the latter half of my life. Before I was engaged to be married, my father advised me to conceal carefully my doubts, for he said that he had known extreme misery thus caused with married persons. Things went on pretty well until the wife or husband became out of health, and then some women suffered miserably by doubting about the salvation of their husbands, thus making them likewise to suffer.”_* *Darwin doubted the human ability to comprehend God, and the freedom of the choice to believe. He reaffirms his belief in the evolutionary ancestry of humans, and depicts himself as “a man who has no assured and ever present belief in the existence of a personal God or of a future existence with retribution and reward.”*

WHETHER YOU ARE A CREATIONIST OR AN EVOLUTIONIST, THE FACT IS: TOM CAT IS A PUSSY GRABBER Do male cats have spikes on their penis? When mating, the male cat would bite the female cat at the scruff at the neck. Uninformed people would believe that the pain caused by the male cat’s teeth is what makes the female cat scream and paw at the male cat. Female cats scream not because of the male’s bite. What causes female cats to scream is the withdrawal of the tom cat’s penis. Male cats have spikes on their penis. Female cats scream bloody murder because of the pain caused by the spikes that rake the female cat’s vaginal walls. The withdrawal of the cat’s spiked or barbed penis will trigger ovulation. A male cat’s reproductive tract consists of the scrotum, the two testicles, prostate glands, two bulbourethral glands, the vas deferens and the penis. Kids would often ask parents if cats have penis because the penis of cats are not easily visible. A sheath of skin called prepuce completely covers the cat’s penis. The penis can protrude from the sheath when the cat licks and grooms. The tip of a cat’s penis is called glans. This glans has a band of about 120 to 150 horny projections. The spikes on the cat’s penis play an important role in feline reproduction. Female cats are induced ovulators. This means that cats would not ovulate unless mated or unless manually stimulated. When cats mate, the male cat holds the female immobile by biting the scruff of the neck. This is one way of inducing the female cat to ovulate. The withdrawal of the penis will cause the spikes to rake against the vaginal walls. This causes the female cat to scream. The scraping of the vaginal walls also induces the female cat to ovulate. NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A PUSSY GRABBER! Meow! TOM CAT SPENT BILLIONS OF YEARS OF EVOLUTION GETTING IT RIGHT - OR HE WAS CREATED THAT WAY (GENESIS 1:31)!

Why would you interpret it that way? It seemed clear Dawkins was pointing out that dismissing Adam & Eve as myth deprives Christianity of one of its foundational ideas (original sin). Seems _extremely weird_ to characterize a valid, logical point as being "stunned".

@@Whiterabbit42 Watch the video. Is there a delay to his response? No, he comes up with it pretty quick. Definitely not stunned. I think the only valid response to the fact that he wasn't stunned is a few people are saying "original sin" isn't part of their beliefs, and that's a pretty valid response. Personally I don't see why anyone would bother believing in god(s), since there's nowhere near enough evidence to justify belief. I mean it's great that Catholicism backs off on the most demonstrably false claims of the Bible, but I'm always left wondering why they stop there when basically _all_ supernatural claims (in the Bible and elsewhere) remain unproven in 2021.

@@Whiterabbit42 So do you agree? I often find that when I say things that are _clearly correct and supported by evidence_ (in this case your own video), theists will simply distract off topic. They ignore the problem. Why do that? Especially the second part of my post where I describe how we don't even have _a foundation_ for believing that a god actually exists. Why just ignore that with a "LOL"? Does truth not matter to you? You're fine believing the idea even if no reasonable evidence supports it? Who's DiDi and why are you mentioning them?
