For damn sure.. Very very very frustrating
I am an artist and I absolutely loatheeee listening to people talk about art like the currators dissecting the artist's work. It is one of the most obnoxious things to me. These people just labored for hours and their brains and their hands worked together to create something that only they could do, and the judges just scoff at most of their work, like at one point just going down the line saying "nope, nope, nope, nope" it bothers me to me core.

I feel exactly the same. Especially loathsome is when they talk about what the market wants right now or that they look for freshness of style. Two of the judges probably don't even know how to draw a face....pompuous poopies and arrogant
@martinitime3537

I feel the same. I find all three of them annoying and arrogant as hell. But especially the sour faced Kathleen with her matching sour personality who always finds something catty, condescending and disparaging to say like “ clumsy brushstrokes” or “ naive” But the cake in my opinion took the old woman who announces the times remaining with such self importance - when she said about Christian’s fabulous Portrait that since it came so easy to him it should count against him! And to encourage the artists not to sign their work is beyond ridiculous!
This program has come so far. It has evolved into something amazing. To suggest that artists do not sign their work though is just off in left field.
Personally I sign all my work because I don’t want someone else to steal it

I sign mine also...I want people looking at it to know who did it and know where they can get one of their own.
I would never have picked these 3. But to each his own, I guess.
A wide variety of imagery styles this time. While Nick's technique is very interesting and quite clever as a portrait it didn't gel for me. The model has a much more sculptural face, not a moon.
32:47 are you f'ing kidding me? why are they acting like that guy didn't hastily throw that together because he ran out of time? I'm astounded they're taking that one seriously and they actually picked him for the final 3 ... this is some emperor has no clothes level bs

Oh ! Spot on response... "the emperor has no clothes". You made me laugh so hard my jaws and belly ache! Thankyou 😊
The quality of these portraits far outshines that of most of the landscape work we see in this series. But, I’m bothered by the idea of selecting the best three or the best one. Especially by these judges whose critical analysis doesn’t feel to be very high…at least from the comments I hear them make on this video.
30:23 John Affleck did the best painting.
The judges must have caught flak because they never again spoke against artists signing their paintings. Lol!
I'm not sure if anyone noticed on another video but Art Curator Soriano speaks the most beautiful Spanish I have heard anyone speak! that is a great talent.

I wonder if they are more interested in the work that artist could produce for the final piece rather than this specific one? They also sounded like they decided they loved this artists work before seeing this painting. Also for signatures, if people don’t sign the front do they at least sign the back so after they are gone we don’t lose who the artist was?

Do the artists get to finish the paintings that the sitter chooses? make a few changes and touchups.
Something I think one should keep in mind when watching, is that the judges, Evan if they won’t say it, don’t give a damn if the art itself is good or bad, they care about whether it would sell. I think they should have had artists to do the judging, not gallery owners

Sign all your paintings on the front. Seven hundred years of signatures and counting versus one ill-informed "judge" and a painter who imitates picture-signer Lucian Freud. Lol!
All I ask after watching every series is that can someone please change all the three judges.
It's incredibly hard to find the order of these!!
Thank you for tip about the signature

08:21 Imagine a male judge telling a model to take off her shirt to pose because she embodies the ideal of female beauty.
What year was this video from?
Kate Bryan seemed so uptight back then. The judges are more relax and easygoing in recent seasons, this must be either the first or second season.
@katalinelo8011
Жыл бұрын
It's the first season. Later on they settled for one location for every heat and after the third or fourth season they changed to a location with artificial light only to solve the issue of the moving sun they head earlier (there was a venue used with glass ceiling for a while and most artists had issues with light shining through their canvas and with moving shadows on the models). Also they reduced the number of painters to nine per heat, (with six semifinalists and three finalists), and the backdrops and props were minimized too to a painted wall and the same chair for all sitters. I think it was needed to make it easier to finish the pictures in the given time with less busy setups.
8:48 wtf?
Yach! No way.
Do the loosers get to keep their paintings?
The judges opinions are often at loggerheads with my personal one ,no more so than in this episode.
@richardwebb2348

I think it more likely that you are at loggerheads with the opinion of the judges.
I've really gotta into watching this show but this episode has me cringing. Why did the editors and judges seem to ignore Scott Pohlschmidt's full-body painting of the rugby player? we never even see a close-up of the finished product and it wasn't even talked about it all even when they're discussing the rugby player paintings! even though the few glimpses we do see of it it looks like it's one of the best? Maybe it's because the guy owns his own studio or is a professional. It can't be based solely on the painting it just doesn't make sense that they wouldn't even show it in the edit.
this show's annoying because they basically give away who's going to be picked with who they highlight, they need to highlight more of the painters
Haven't watched this yet....did you really spoil it with your thumbnail sketch??
It normally takes weeks to finish their paintings, yet they sign up for a 4 hour rush job, hoping for fame and fortune. Ya'd think they'd practice a year in advance doing FAST paintings to at least figure out how to do that.
You're going to make that poor guy stand for four hours? Somebody should make YOU pose once.

The judges absolutely ruin this show. Each season, I pray the producers will replace them. Each season, I'm utterly disappointed. These judges wouldn't have chosen Rembrandt, Michaelangelo, or Velasquez the winner.
The one going on about the signatures sounds ridiculous.
