Cardiff residents react to six-figure council boss pay
We visited Cardiff for the 2023 Town Hall Rich List roadshow, and spoke to residents about our findings that 17 local bosses received over £100,000 in total remuneration last year.

A classic example of high officials stuffing their pockets whilst others have to scratch a living and pay through the nose 😮😮😢😢😡😡
They will cut sevices but raise council tax, work that one out 🤷🏻♂️🤔
Plus a good amount of tax goes on the generous pensions.
Remarkable, indeed.
At one time the Council leader was called the "Town Clerk" and was often an unpaid volunteer, perhaps a retired businessman who wanted to use his free time to serve the community. Suddenly in the 1990s or thereabouts we had the rise of the council "Chief Executive" and with that flashy title there had to be an appropriate salary. But he's still the Town Clerk.
❤WONDERFUL !!
I work for a council in Devon and we just had a pay rise it was the same amount right across the board which isn’t fair. Someone on£21000 a year will get a lot less than the top earners who maybe in the six figure bracket.
Nobody does anything for free
Rotten to the core
but they’ll still vote Labour because they don’t really care.
Cardiff as in the capital of Wales? You think the people running the city should earn...how much exactly? For running the city? The chief executive (top dog) gets £190,000 which is 15p per month per household. Times that by 17 (not that all 17 earn so much, but let's go with it) and we're looking at £2.50 a month. It's about 1% of the average monthly payment. Now, at the same time, between 2015 and 2020 the Conservative government cut funding to local councils (oh, you didn't think they got all their money from council tax, did you?) by...drumroll...77%!!! So who's the villain? Maybe everyone, but don't let the Conservatives distract you! 'Fatcat council bosses' are NOT the reason your council tax is going up by 4% and you have no local services any more.
Its not really a shock most councils in the UK are badly run waste money and most managers are not capable of doing there jobs but they all protect each other most public funded bodies are just a massive gravy train
