    @John Daley but he specifically said this was an admin load situation. If you are going to load in admin situation, with the bolt open, there is no reason for it not to be a full 30 round mag. I can completely agree with keeping your extra mags one or two short for tactical reload situations, but this didn’t make sense.

  • @jasonruggen1511

    @jasonruggen1511

    @@danieljones7096Just a guess, but maybe keeping things simple, OCD and consistency. If you are loading all your mags before using them, are you going to load them all 28 rounds so you can tac reload on a closed bolt but then load a special that has 30 rounds? if you mix them up how will you know? Are you going to mark a special "first mag" that you always use with 30 rounds? Just keep it simple and load them all 28(for tac reloads vs keeping track of a special "admin" mag with 30rounds). What if you accidentally grab the one that's not 30 rounds when "admin" reloading? Then the 30 rounder causes you to jack up a tac reload on a closed bolt in the middle of a fight and maybe your mag falls out because it wasn't properly seated? Why make things more complicated than they need to be.

    You can load a 30 round mag by first locking the bolt to the rear. Admin load, you have time. Insert mag, release the bolt and tug the mag to ensure it's fully seated.

  • @CredibleHulk10

    @CredibleHulk10

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, you can. But in a tactical reload situation with the bolt closed the 30 load can pose a problem. Thus, having all mags loaded with 28 maintains consistency across equipment without having to locate and load the specific 30 rounder for tactical reload or 28 rounder for admin reload; uniformity negates changes depending on the situation.

  • @mddrudge

    @mddrudge

    Жыл бұрын

    Along with what Jason said, wouldn't it also be better to tug on the mag before releasing the bolt? Your hand is already on the mag so it would be one less movement (economy of motion). Plus if the mag is not seated and you drop the bolt it may not strip and chamber a round.

I’ve utilized it in all of my magazines. I’ve had zero issues and I’ve ran thousands and thousands of rounds through them between my buddies and I. So far I’ve developed it work in two different manufacturers of magazines. I’d like to share this with you if your interested. I’d love to put a patenting on this. Downloading to 29/28 is just a nice way of making sure without having to go through every mag and checking. Most people don't have one single type of mag in their kit. I have at least 2 or 3 different brands. I haven't downloaded in the past, but I've also had a mag fall out of my gun once. That is one surefire way to look like a total idiot, lol.

I highly never recommend pointing your rifle to the sky for any functions due to the range a round can travel so I recommend pointing down range or at the ground...but just my 2 cents worth. Just a guess, but like he was saying 30 rounds has the top round to the right. 29 rounds has it to the left. if you are used to confirming a round in the chamber by pulling the mag out and ensuring the top round in the mag is in the left side(and done thousands of repetitions) then it will be confusing to do 29 and then look for the top round to the right. Another guess, some people don't like odd numbers.

    @@jasonruggen1511 Its an old school trick with the M-16 GI mags. They had pretty awful followers, and the problem with failure to seat like he mentioned. Also before the upgraded followers and then later the issued PMAGS. I was always taught 28 in the army and I bet money Mike was too

    For those of you talking smack on the 28 round load, you're not getting the "set yourself up for success" part. Sure, a 30 rounder will load easy on an open bolt, and with some force on a closed bolt; but if all your mags have 28, then you've eliminated that possibility to induce a malfunction while in the fight. You 30 round guys better practice your transitions to pistols, because you might need that backup sooner than you thought...Mike, thank you!

    Is there a specific reason why you don't slap up on the mag other than you don't feel it's necessary when using the beer can grip push pull method? If I slap up on my mag are there any considerations to be aware of that may cause issues with the weapon? I only ask because I still have it beat into my head from Sand Hill at Benning a decade ago and I'm wondering if this is muscle memory that I should go ahead and start breaking or just leave well enough alone. Any insight is much appreciated.

    If the bolt is to the rear, you can damage the magazine. I say you can, as in over and over 1000s of times. If the bolt is in forward position, you’re fighting spring tension of the magazine. I believe (infantry, gunsmith perspective) it is necessary to slap the magazine on the base plate. I only run 28 rounds in my magazines and I still run slaps.

    Noise and if you slap to hard sometimes a round can pop out. It’s rare but does happen. The push pull method is silent and more controlled.

    I slapped an AR mag into a magwell once on an open bolt and rounds flew out of the top of the mag and out of the ejection port.

    Is there a theory around not running a foregrip or is it it just personal preference? I know frank proctors got some reason for it but I was wondering what it is?

    If we're stripping rounds, I'd say 29 is enough. 28 makes me question why we even bother to get up in the morning 😊

    Ok, just to make sure I am understanding this. An Admin Load is what you do at the very beginning of a class/session? If you are doing an Admin Load, you are purposely locking the bolt back, correct? therefore would you not be able to load a full 30 rd mag without issue? If you are loading a mag on a closed bolt, then you would want 29/28 rds in the mag +1 in the chamber, yes? I don't see the logic, but hey, I do not have the time behind the trigger as Mike does. I will take what he says as sound advice and consideration. Keep up the good work FieldCraft!
