How to CQB and clear rooms alone

Фильм және анимация

Former Green Beret and GRS contractor Mike Glover goes over the fundamentals of single-man close quarters battle (CQB).
We've all seen it - the sexy CQB videos with full kit. That has its place, but as a civilian, it's not grounded in reality based training. More often than not, you're going to be alone with a pistol.

This guy is good...Can we all just appreciate this dude fed us 30mins of info UNCUT. I’ve watched other videos of “gun guys” where it’s kinda obvious they have a little knowledge they make sound overly complex so they come across like experts. If you pay close attention this guy is trying to water it down for us, you can tell he catches himself naturally falling into more complex aspects of the subject then dumbs it down for us, signs of a true master of a craft. Mike, as a LEO we do not get the amount of training that I believe we need. Yes, we train and we have excellent instructors, but it’s minimal. This video taught me a lot, I’ve had to go in buildings by myself or with just one more officer. This single man CQB video pointed out a lot of small and big flaws that I have. Thank you so much for teaching us!

Bro, you have no idea. I have sort of been on both sides of this coin. I was a street cop before 9/11 happened and then I became an Air Marshal(retired now). Not that I was an "operator", but I was initially trained by those guys and have had them as co-workers. And had continuous specialized training during my career. Back in '01 there was virtually zero street cop advanced training. My eyes were opened up to a whole different world of tactics. All we ever knew as cops back then was take cover behind the car door or trunk and wait for a shootout. I also know it's impossible for departments to train as much it takes to reach this(or near) level. I look back on the ignorant(lack of training) situations I had been as a cop, compared to what I know now and I wonder how I stayed alive. Unfortunately cops have to take extra training on their own time, but fortunately there are guys like Mike out there who make info available. If I were working the street today, I would get together with some like minded co-workers and have youtube "training parties" every month for a day and practice these things. Stay safe.

Out of curiosity are you at a small department or something? In my 15 years of Law Enforcement I have received a very adequate amount of bi monthly to monthly training on CQB, triage, defensive tactics, use of force scenarios, shoot house, etc. I'm Seattle PD though so not sure about smaller departments. You shouldn't be clearing buildings without a back up Officer unless of a extreme scenario where preservation of life is a must. Sounds like your department may be lacking on safety if you're clearing houses by yourself in my humble opinion.

Most likely scenario yes! Luckily for me, my brother also carries a firearm so it would be a 2 man team clearing the house. We also have a 4k square foot house including the basement so I would want a 2nd shooter withe as we have lots of opposing doors. I go to clear one and get shot in the back solo, but with a 2nd man I'm more or less all right. I'll clear while he maintains rear security, them join me in clearing if the room is big enough or has closets or doors that need to be opened to cleared. One opens the door and the second clears said space. We also know the layout of our home like the back of our hands haha so it flows seamlessly

Man, I just can't say enough to thank you for providing this priceless training! Thank you brother, for taking the time to produce the videos for all of us that would get no training otherwise. As a LEO in a small sheriff department we very seldom get the training other that a few of us watching your videos and applying it to our tactics. I know your videos are saving lives brother and I just can't thank you enough! May God bless you and keep you safe brother.

Great job Mike. 👏 I am a recently retired LEO with a background as a LE trainer. I was never an operator but we trained our folks the same way. These are also perishable skills that should be practiced. I would like to see you do the same video in low / no light, using a weapons mounted or free hand light. Maybe talk about Advantages and disadvantages of the two. I also have an article I wrote on low light tactics I would like to send you for review if possible?

Hello Robert. First and foremost, thank you for having stepped up to do such a dangerous job for your community. A retirement well earned I'm sure. I'm retired military and supporter of LE . I have a concern which I hope you can clear up for me. As of late, I have noticed an upward trend of LOD deaths involving ambush during disturbance/domestic calls/serving warrants. Most recently the tragic LOD death of Deputy Sheriff William Petry of the Floyd County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky as well as Capt Ralph Frasure and Officer Jacob Chaffins, both of the Prestonsburg Police Dept. Even a K-9 by then name of Drago was killed in this encounter. All shot and killed in the same incident. If you wouldn't mind sharing, what do you feel are the biggest dangers officers face as well as any fatal errors officers make during these types of encounters. Is there anything you may have noticed in the incidents you have reviewed that raise any red flags/concerns about the type of training LEOs are receiving or lack there of? Tactics being used or not used? Your reply would be greatly appreciated Robert. Thank you.

(@@EddieLeal ) So many Law Enforcement Agencies are broke, meaning our regular training, and specified tactics are almost void nowadays. Ever heard the saying, you practice like you play? It's so very true. It's just not there nowadays. Most Agencies so short staffed nowadays, guys are mandated to work 56-70 hour weeks. It's insane, guys are exhausted and lives are being lost. Retirements or resignations are at a all time high. Officers are so scared to do their jobs anymore, they are worried about making a mistake, as a result being brought up on charges by the Bureaucrats! Officers hesitating to Police the way they were taught and trained, or through all the experience they gained through their careers has came to almost a complete halt. This is exactly why so many LEOs are being killed. Its sad, the politicians are now running Law Enforcement..

As I am no longer in the corps I still use my training as a bounty hunter. Most of the time we clear a house with just one person so I had to retrain myself in some aspects. I really beg to differ with the basic premise of this video. At the moment he sticks his head into the room past the door jamb to "visually clear" ANY quadrant, he'll get cut down by a threat in the far left or far right side of the room. He is at what is known as a "reaction-time deficit." You cannot enter a room, turn, visually recognize the difference between a person being a threat from a non-threat, bring your weapon to bear, engage them, neutralize them and do it before they simply open up on you while sitting in a corner waiting for you to enter through the doorway. Regardless if an assailant is at the left or the right they will open up on the man entering the doorway killing him faster than he can engage the threat. It's pre-programmed into their brain as they wait to ambush you. They are prepared to instantly engage whomever they see, the moment they enter the doorway. They don't care who it is. So how do you make the entry with the least amount of exposure time? Reaction times are well noted by physiologists: Your Tactile Response (touch) is 1/10 second Auditory Response (sound) is 1/15 second Visual Response (sight) is 1/4 of a second. So you crouch down at the doorway and stick just your head in and do a "quick look" into the room in one direction only and immediately move back away from the doorway. Regardless if an assailant is left or right they will open up on the doorway. It's pre-programmed into their brain, as they wait to ambush you, to engage when they see any "threat" in the doorway. I train LE and the military in weapons and small unit tactics. We have used this technique successfully over and over with Air Soft and Simunitions. Positioning someone as a threat in either corner and FOREWARNING them that an entry is about to happen does not deter them. They still open up when the Team Leader pokes his head in the doorway and retracts it quickly. The difference is by the time the assailant reacts and brings HIS weapon to bear, the Team Leader is back out of harms way.

I seriously wanted to thank you and let you know how much your videos have helped me become so much more proficient and technically more sound I have become because of your videos. I just watched the 1 man CQB video. The basics of 1 man room clearing is pretty much whati have been taught but all the foot work and bringing th pistol in iwhen it's not smart to go long is GREAT! The things you go over and are teaching the viewer is better then most live fire training I've had. You tell us the reason for even small things which actually aren't small at all. Your incredibly sound tactics along with your explanations on why it's best to do this and that have taken my average skill set and raised my bar 10x stroger. That's just after the one viewing alo g with alot of pausing and rewiding but the more I watch it and follow your lead I migh owe you some money cause it will be saving me a ton of money in class fees. Dead serious I really appreciate you putting these videos out and putting the amount of effort and honest care and want to teach these tactics has been huge for e. Thanks!!!!!

"I see a shitter." Said with intense serious facial expression, this is unintentionally making me chuckle. Love that it was mentioned in the midst of tactical jargon about corner-fed rooms and opposing threats and such.

Your recent videos from incidents this year 22', have opened a rabbit hole of desire for understanding. So that when I may speak in turn, it's with basic understanding of some fundamentals. Your eloquence in explaining your craft is essential. When I speak with my family, & colleagues I'll have something to say, that will land on their ears with impact. We must redress the failures laid bare, at the loss of my little fellow TEXANS, & their faithful stewards, down in the Big Bend. I will be watching. Thank you sir, for putting words to the technicalities, so that when we viewers do address this very technical field, it may have a little more salt to it..

Mike thank you very very much for the training. I live in a 2 story home and I just learned some excellent techniques, I do this once every 2 or 3 months when my wife isn't home it gives me an opportunity to enhance my skills. My upper floors squeak as do the stairs, so I try to mark my steps exactly where the squeaks are and I use that as a marker, the bedroom, hall, guest bedroom and bathroom. I'm a retired Gunners mate (Navy) Thank you for your service too. BZ!
