Electric fold up bikes.....all we need. By the time you buy a tow car $$$ set it up to be able to tow $$$ Pay the rego $$$ pay the insurance $$$ (is there extra insurance on the motorhome because you are towing $$$) cover the cost of extra fuel used while towing $$$....it all adds up. Then you have the hassle of parking on your travels....the cost of more than one park space...yes, you get fined for taking 2 or 3 if you don't pay for the extras....so many things with towing..... We just find it easier to use the e bikes...and if you want to go somewhere the bikes or the motorhome can't take you....HIRE a 4wd with the money you saved on not towing.... Motorhome over car and van...every time.....the car option has some appeal for longer stays, but overall...we'll never change. each to their own, and I can respect that.

When you are in a campground with no designated spot for a few days ore more and you want to do some exploring in your motorhome but want to come back to that campground, do you leave something in you spot to let people know you are coming back to that spot later that day. Maybe a small sign, etc?

Yes that’s exactly what we have done, we’ve gone out for the day and left either our camp chairs and table. We’ve never had anything taken. If you're worried, just leave an old camp chair or two. And let your fellow campers who are near you that you are coming back.

Love love love this video. We’ve just decided that when my gf retires it a few years , we’re selling up, buying a motorhome & hitting the road permanently. I’ve told my adult girls, not the granddaughters just yet, & they love the idea & want to meet where ever we are at the time for holidays. In the meantime, I’m doing my research on the do’s & don’ts of life on the road & have found some great fb groups that are a well of info. We’re so excited & I’m going to, be checking in all of your videos 😊😊😊😊😊

Motorhome for we retirees! Eighteen months after new and 21,000 km on the clock across four states - unfortunately, Covid restrictions did limit us. Grandchildren love school holiday trips with us. Agree with you re the advantages. My wife and I are working through your travels to give us ideas. The caravan pullers always unhitch and take their FWD to places we can never reach so I prefer watching video by motorhome travellers! Many thanks.

I started this lifestyle 6 years ago with a 9m motorhome and a Suzuki Vitara. Being from a bricks-n-sticks background, I thought I needed the room, even though I am by myself. After 12 months I went down to a 7m motorhome, still with the Suzuki behind. Another 12 months and I went to the dark side and bought a 4.3m caravan. The caravan has worked for me because I tend to stay in one place for a week or more. That is when having a tow car comes in handy. I recently stayed in one spot for 4 weeks. In my opinion (for what it is worth), I think if you are travelling every day or two, a motorhome works well. A caravan comes in to it's own if you want to stop in one place for longer periods of time. At the beginning of this year I had a major (almost fatal) heart attack, which threw a spanner in the works. Yes I can still handle the caravan setup etc, but it is a lot more tiring than it used to be. I think my ideal now would be a 7m 4x4 van (VW, Mercedes), but unfortunately that is out of my price range now that I am unable to work. So for now I will continue with the caravan and buying a lotto ticket every week.

With the Motor Home you need to tow a small car. With the Caravan, you just unhook your truck. Real toss up, I agree. Comparing Apples to Apples, size wise, for me the caravan. Just so I don’t have to tow a vehicle ❤️

We've done the whole lap around Australia twice in our motorhome (currently on our second lap). Never needed an extra car. In fact, we wouldn't have got into anywhere near the wilderness areas if we were towing a car. Of course, that's just us. There's a dozen ways to travel around Aus!

Surprisingly our motorhome has great ceiling height. As for hanging space, we converted our wardrobe into 4 individual shelves inside it, so all 4 of us had our own locker style clothing storage section. We never needed to hang any clothing, as everything we owned in the motorhome was simply camping clothing. 🏕

Hi TraceLea. Thank you for watching. As soon as I read your question, I had it instantly answered with a huge YES! We have absolutely met solo ladies travelling Aus. I can think of 1 that we personally know, who is full time, and then more who we just met along the way. So, yes, travelling solo women are definitely amoung our travellers. As for safety concerns, I've never seen, or even heard of any issues. Just be sensible where you camp, as generally everyone likes to pull up at a recreation campground where there are at least a couple of other campers around (the travelling community is awesome. I really mean that!). If in the very rare circumstance you pull into a camp somewhere, and it's not for you....drive on to the next one. Just brush up on basic mechanical skills like checking engine fluids, being able to change a tyre by yourself (it'll probably happen), and have a good phone (Telstra!!!) Keep in touch, and just do it! 👍

  • @campwinnietravellingaustralia

Hi Sayuz. Importing from overseas these days is extremely costly. Then you have compliance issues with registration here in Australia, and being a motorhome, 240v electrical and LPG gas needs to be Australia complianced. I'd strongly recommend buying something already here in Australia. If you want a small Japanese motorhome, check out the Isuzu Elf. They are awesome! Compact, AND they are 4WD. We saw a couple of these in our travels

I would also like to consider a bit smaller size, like Nissan of Mazda Van 1800cc or even Hi-roof Toyota Hiace. I will paste photos and link to your Instagram. Sayuz,
