I had to relocate my drain tap on my water tank. I looked at the existing fittings and they were like nothing else I had ever worked on and I had no Idea where to start or how to pull the existing apart. This Guy simplified it all and I not only understood but done the job easy Thank You

Brilliant used a 10mm to 12mm reducing coupling on my motor home to replace one that failed on a hot water feed. Noticed it didn't have the clips in so have remedied that!

I had a hot water pipe leading to the shower burst whilst I was up north this year. To get it off I had to fit my arm into a narrow gap between the ensuite wall and the washing machine and couldn't get any leverage to push the piece in to release the pipe. (I still haven't worked out how the washing machine is fixed in) I managed to get it out by getting a 12mm open ended spanner and levering it against the fitting. I had a mate under the van who pulled it when I gave him the OK. (He pulled it out with such force, and it came away so suddenly that he nearly broke his nose but that's another story for happy hour). Problem then was that no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the leverage to get the replacement pipe into the fitting and gave up trying. I managed to isolate the ensuite hot water pipe from the plumbing system for the rest of the trip. When I got home I chased quotes to replace all pipes (hot and cold) but couldn't get any repairers interested. I decided to give it 1 more try and voila the pipe went in 1st go (I think performance anxiety might have had something to do with it). Result is that I have now replaced all pipes myself for a cost of around $40 and no leaks.

One question, over tightening, are they all fitted hand tight? How to know when to stop if using a spanner?

I can push to release the hose but can’t get the hose to come fully out?

These john guest fittings are a pain in the arse what other options out there

Hi Eli, I am sure there are options but these fittings have proven themselves to be very reliable over the years. Do you know how to disconnect and re connect correctly?

I do mate thanks for the response. It just seems even when installed correctly if there's any movement eg caravan moving to new place it always ends up leaking. Has caused some rot and quite the headache.

I have a tee joint and im trying to replace the tap, however the other tap seems to have 10mm barb fittings, where is my old tap was just a straight push fit, would the barb just push into the tee piece?

I don't fully understand your question. the pipe in the straight or tee fittings simply push in and to remove you hold the collar back then pull the hose out.

You could give it a go. You can get Reducers so you put a 12 or 15mm tube in one end and smaller diameter in the other. look up John Guest fittings

Why don't you show how to fit the end inserts, especially in the hot water lines. For 50c don't risk a leak...it will eventually

Absolutely agree 100%... I live in UK and bought a new Swift caravan 3 years ago. It was parked upmost of 2019 due to Covid lockdowns. My first outing this year I came back to my van to find the carpets were soaked. Traced the leak to the JG connector for the shower cold feed. Removed the fitting and found no insert (or clips) had been fitted, checked some of the other connectors and found the same (manufacturers cutting corners to save money FFS). I purchased some inserts, clips, connectors and a couple of metres of spare pipe. Have yet to fit it but noticed the end of one of the new pipes is slightly oval. As with the domestic 15mm pipe, the inserts are intended to maintain the circular section of the pipe and maintain the integrity of the seal. Will be fitting inserts, clips and pressure testing this weekend and also modifying the "lazy" manufacturers pipe layout to reduce the number of unnecessary connections. Why don't people make things right first time? Given the cost of a new caravan another £20 was neither here nor there.
