Smaller predatory cats are actually less likely to attack larger animals but put on a huge show to stand their ground. You can do the same thing to wild cheetahs and they attack less frequently than they tolerate you invading their space or even pulling their tails to move them. The reason is that an injury could compromise their ability to hunt, and therefore survive long term. They will withhold any real physical altercation as long as no real damage is done to their body in many cases. In nature there are always exceptions, but predatory cats weigh out energy in vs. Energy out in every waking moment of their lives, whereas “domestic cats” who are fed in most cases don’t worry about the same basic survival mechanisms. Cheetahs have been trained to become companion cats and/or hunting companions, even from wild Cheetahs, and they can be won over with coaxing, which would involve easy meals & building tolerance to touch… so, imagine that this is how wild cats are domesticated. Giving easy meals goes a long way. I think that grandpa has been giving food before he did this but the cat is still acting on instinctive drives to mistrust but also knows he/she has received food stuffs, etc. So, we all see something different. I see a small predatory cat almost won over & everyone else sees an aggressive cat. Just some perspective.

@@bazookajoered6674 I agree and that’s because life comes easy to them. They don’t have to hunt for food. The fearlessness comes from being bred into domesticity. Nature is cruel, real beasts fear the chaotic nature of nature itself, at least the ones that are best adapted. Freud has theories about early civilizations and polytheism, for example, and he believed it was based in fear and uncertainty. I’m no fan of Freud at large, but I agree with some of his ideas. So, even man evolved through a fear or respect for nature. As they gained more control, they begin to loose sight of God or gods.

@@stoplaughing7363 depends on the situation. A wild caracal would not let you get close and will most likely attack you if you approach him. I have been attacked by a stray regular sized cat before. They aren't playing, the moment they got their claws on you it will result in a laceration, and the claws piercing the skin easy. It's hard to land a clean hit once they are in battle mode. Plus they can run faster and more agile than you. The one on the video is a pet so it's somewhat used to humans so if you hit it first you can somewhat get him.

This cat communicates with her eyes. There’s a friendly almost loving look in her eyes for the human that feeds her. However, the hiss and eventually the paw claws thrash is immediately instinctively invoked for just about every interaction. There’s none of the scent greeting, the rubbing, the grooming, the deep purring, the cuddling, the appreciative stares and yearning to be with their humans that endear humans to the common house cat. These incredible aspects of house cats evolved over the millennia with humans favoring more affectionate cats and abandoning or shunning more dangerous cats. The cat in the video is never going to be anything but what it is - and there’s nothing wrong with that but it isn’t a creature I’d want around children.

The animal also is finding out that even though it's cornered he's not in danger. I've desensitized all my animals to things that could be perceived as a threat. When my kids were toddlers they could grab a dogs tail, touch thier eyes, ears or mouth without perceiving it as a threat.

Not for caracal cats no. I'm a lynx thankfully. Nobody does that, we fight if they want touch. Then we learn our place, I havent had the blessing of being placed in a pack and finding streangth placement.

Perfect technique to get a cat to like you. Corner it, and then touch it as it hisses.
