I have the ‘16 version of this with the DSG. I have owned many cars in my life but NONE before “Gunther CC” has ever made me stop and look back at it in the parking lot/garage/driveway the way this one does. Its comfortable as hell, has the new head unit that does feature traffic on the gps(with Sirius/ XM subscription)and just makes me want to drive it everywhere.Could it use a bit more power? Yes, and I will chip/modify it once the warranty ends at 60k, but until then I am quite happy with it. In a way I am glad VW did not promote this vehicle like the way they did with the Passat and Jettas. I owned a 99 V6 Passat before this CC( and a ‘15 Jetta) and I cried when they turned that beauty of a car into a CamryAccord. Now the CC is discontinued after the ‘17 model year to be replaced by the Arteon- let’s see if VW can find its “roots” again and give the Arteon the performance of the engine it deserves to match the beauty of the design.

I agree with his conclusion on the car. I bought a CC not for its specs not because it is common on the road. However, it looks good the drive is very nice. (I could drive this car all day) and it has the functions I need inside the car. It is not tech-heavy but very nice looking in my opinion.

Great review! I had a 2013 VWCC and traded it for a 2018 GMC Canyon in October 2018. The "CC" is a blast to drive! Its a very comfortable car for both driver and passenger. Fuel economy averages around 24-26mpg. Ride quality is pretty good, but cabin can be a bit noisy, especially under aggressive acceleration. Reliability is the deal breaker. I've had issues with the electronics. Fuel flow sensor and one other sensor went bad. Finally, I had a leaky water pump and an oil leak. I traded the car with 110, 000 miles. Its a beautiful looking car, but as the miles pile up, I can see this being a money pit. Buy it used, with low miles and get an extended warrantry, keep for a few years and get out quick.....

Despite some of it's short comings, I really like this car. It's unique styling and sporty driving and tied down, reasonably comfortable ride, really works for me. This Volkswagen has gotten more expensive over the years, but has seasonal deals cut that expense to a more reasonable cost. Overall, not a bad car that one can live with as a daily driver.

I think the CC is really more comparable with a Toyota Avalon and not infiniti or Acura. its like a luxury car that is just not luxurious enough to get into the brands luxury brand (Audi) but better than the brands Cheapest cars. for those interested Cooley forgot to mention the V6 engine makes 295hp 260 torque

I have not driven the competitors but feel that the CC gives you a refined look and feel not found on the domestic or Asian imports of comparable price range.

The CC doesn't sell much in the U.S. because it has poor reliability, according to Consumer Reports. In fact, the CC and the Beetle are the least reliable models in VW lineup. In the used market, you can get them cheap with low miles anywhere between $15,000 and $26,000.

They should offer the 6 cyl engine in the R line trim for maybe $2500-3000 more and pair it to a 6 speed manual only; no automatic. It would be a nice car at under $40K with that combo. But really, under $30K buys a used but under warranty Infinity M56 that has a 420 horse V8 and has more tech/comfort/power than most cars under $70K new.

Its funny how I can get in a 2002 Jetta, and it hasn't changed much from the 2015. What an embarrassment for volkswagen, they're falling behind in the times, and they would have been left there with shut doors if it wasn't for them being an automotive monopoly! I also find it appalling that a $400,000 Lamborghini has the same technology as their $20,000 cars. I agree, you don't buy a Lamborghini for its tech, but really.... You couldn't have produced something more premium for such a high end car?

Relax, Corey Brown. The CC is based of the PQ46 Passat which launched in Europe in 2005, meaning it was designed in over ten years ago. It's ancient by today's standards. The fact that it still a respectable car goes a long way towards validating how good the basic architecture is. Say that with a straight face of a 2004 Lexus, for instance. The good news is a new one will drop in Europe next year. Bad news? I'd rather pay the same price for a 2015 ,C-Klasse. That's a problem for VW

  • @The_CoreyBrown

You've really didn't prove anything... Just that their car is only and from 2005, lmaoo... Which we all knew already! I bought a 2015 C400,, and the Mercedes has a lot more value without all the extra packages... Volkswagens are a joke! The C300 is a better car without packages too... I could buy 2 CCs for the price of my C400. and I still wouldn't, until VW steps their game up, right now they're at baby steps.... I'm way past that!

Corey Brown I rented a w205 in Zurich CH for the last month (C180 estate)...full intelligent LED, pano roof, premium nav,...loved the car. Sure it wasn't fast, but the turbo made it sprightly....best thing is I averaged 40 US MPG with the car, flogging it in germany on the A1 and driving it in downtown Zurich (read: traffic) constantly. back in the US now and put my order in for the C400. less nimble feeling, but holy hell I love the car. But MBUSA, screw you for not offering the w205 wagon here! the car was absolutely friggen fantastic! as for the CC - my point is that while it's an old platform, it's held up very well over the last decade, and still has features that other cars still don't have (auto hold brakes, turbo direct injection, dual clutch, etc.). The interior isn't bad either. with that said, I wou;dn't take 2 for my w205.

I'm not so sure that Volkswagen is trying to compete with Acura and Infiniti here. There is still some cheapness in this car (as was pointed out in the video, hard plastics on the dash) that I would associate with lower end cars. I think this car is more competing with full size sedan offerings from Chevy, Ford and Toyota. That's not to say the CC isn't a nice car, because it is. But it's just not a luxury car.

This is a car for Europe or NZ/Australasia. America won't get it. Simple driving mode a very good idea. And VWs little problem that dare not speak it's name necessitates a car to buy in confidence of it lasting. Also as the ICE nears it's ultimate this is a proper car.

aram442 yeah someone told VW that Americans will not pay the extra money for a higher end interior. That on it's own was a solid piece of advice (we just don't value it) but where they mess up is they went to whatever supplier GM used in the 90's to make their cars. The sad part is, they cut their quality right as the rest of the market (ford, GM, Dodge, Honda, ect.) started sending improved interiors here, which was one of the led factors in a North american sales drop. This most likely contributes to the CC's slow sales and considering they had just invested a ton in a new plant in Tennessee, that has gotta hurt. But yeah customers in the USA will not buy wagons, hatchbacks, diesels (this one is also thanks to GM), or Pay for a premium interior and why we are so attached to our Camry's I will never understand.

roguedogx The CC is a nice car at 35k. I have driven them and think they are excellent value for money. They are a nice badge, drive nice, reasonably reliable with a nice interior. This car is not a Mercedes S class nor is it intended to be. There are very few other cars on the road in this price range that are better. Toyota make super reliable cars and my family car is a Toyota but to be honest they do not look as good as the CC.

bighands69 how do you compare a Toyota to a VW if you have driven a VW even for a singel time you would understand how much difference there is between a Toyota and a VW or anyother German Car

bighands69 see I do agree with you that the CC is a nice car (I think it's way over priced, but I like it). I was just pointing out that the american versions got cheapened up in the second gen, and that I thought VW doing that to their whole lineup was a terrible idea. I was not dissing the car, I was dissing VW's attempts to ruin a great car.

The issue with this car (and the reason it doesn't sell) is that you're asking customers to pay $6k extra just on cosmetics. You get no added functional features to your Passat by getting the CC. And honestly, where is that money going? VW should just make this the normal Passat and phase out the normal one...there seems to be no real sacrifice in cabin space by getting the CC.

You're wrong. CC is still a direct variant of the Euro PQ46 Passat. As such, interior is substantially improved (better touch points, ambient lighting), there's no offset steering wheel, and it carrues premium features unavailable in the Chinese/American Passat, things likr like adaptive bi-Xenon with LED tailamps/DRL, electronic barking brake with hill hold, 600 watt dynaudio (better sounding than Fender). Not to mention it has a BASE 2.0 TSI engine.

Why do I have the feeling that VW simple doesn't care about the US market. I live in TW and my golf us better equip than this CC. My cousin actually has this CC and it has lane dep. warning, napa leather, sun roof, climate control, bigger screen... List goes on. Also, we're actually waiting for the new CC now and stopped sales of this iteration.

The interior is very nice and refined. We don't need any of that soft touch bullshit that will be gummy in 5 years. 6 speed manual is awesome and should be an option on all models. What it really needs is a 6 cylinder+6 speed combo in order to sell. Otherwise it is just overpriced for what it is and I would just get the Jetta GLI or move up to an Audi. We consumers are not stupid even though Volkswagen treats us as if we are. My, have they lost their way in recent years. Whatever happened to Fahrvergnugen? You used to get something special when you bought a Volkswagen. Now they just cater to soccer moms.

spoonman73 we have many more people roaming the earth then ever before which effects quality because more cars need to be made then say 30 years ago. Boring cars all over the place and people talking about tech? Are you kidding me? Thats what matters to you guys is tech? Who gives a hoot about that good lord... are these cars set up for kids just leaving collage or something? Cant even buy a v8 4x4 standard shift anymore.... need I say more?

Exactly. Tech is a gimmick that is pretty much outdated as soon as you buy it. Also, just another distraction to get you into an accident. Isn't that what people have smartphones and laptops for already?
