I just disagree man. The riff there is too good to pass up leaving on its own with just bass and drums. Ethan's bass playing is also way better suited to a 3-piece than Seth, and I think that's cause he's mainly a guitarist and it shows. Seth is arguably a more talented bassist than Ethan but it just works so well here. Sorry I just fell in love with this version the moment I heard the instrumental chorus 6 years ago lol.

dangeroftime I THINK those are just octaves. So you would play the root note and then put another finger on the same note two strings up.

You play a powerchord but leave out the fifth. So you only play on the E and D string

at the time seth (their current bassist) wasn't part of the band, and since the guy playing bass in this video (ethan) now plays guitar alongside will I'm guessing he's better/more used to playing guitar than bass, which might be why it's weird.
