Over 83 roll overs mixed with ~150 other crashes from around 20 Swedish Folkrace events during 2023! Recorded mostly in southern Sweden.
Swedish Stock Car Racing/Banger Racing is a motorsport type with cars that go on sale after the event for around 800 € / 800 $ where the owner is forced to sell their car if someone wants it. This is done to ensure fair race across the different cars and to even them out, so that one car doesn't have the best of the best parts and wins every race. There is NO guarantee that you will come home with the same car you raced with, so you do not want to spend high amounts of money on these cars.
You can start driving in this motorsport the year you become 15 years old, so if your birthday is on the 31st of December - You can race the very next day, only 14 years old, although, there are no events at this time of the year.
Folkrace was adopted from Finland in the early 1980s, and it was instantly a huge success in Sweden! Several hundreds of these events are arranged every year, even in modern times!
In Finland this sport is called Jokkis, short for Jokamiehenluokka. Even norway has adopted this sport, and they call it Bilcross (not to be confused with Swedish Bilcross)
Nobody is seriously injured in these. Even though the cars look like scrap, they have basic safety equipment in them, such as a rollcage, and helmet and fire proof clothes and shoes are mandatory. There are rarely any crashes where the driver is seriously injured, so the cars are relative safe for the way they look!
