@vf2005 - I LOVE SUNFLOWER SEEDS! I'm now so proficient at eating them, it's hard to stop. Going back to my question though, that's exactly what I'm talking about. How long does the learning Capuchin, need to persevere before the nut is cracked? Or will it need to give up and forage for an easier food source? I can only presume it tries cracking nuts, intermittently dispersed between easier food sources. Or do some not crack nuts, within this population?

And that it works better if you put the nut on a fallen tree branch with a suitably sized dent to keep the nut stable. What I'd really like to see is how much they would optimize that process with just a little bit more brain. Let's engineer genetically modified monkeys with 10% larger frontal cortex and release them to compete with the other ones. :D

The monkey seems very aware of the sound of the nut on the log, the way it taps the nut before it places it in the divot, I wonder if it’s checking for the sound of a cracked nut as it goes along, also, how strong that animal must be from doing this “work out“ to get to the nut! I wonder what the calculation ends up being on the calories expended, I’m sure the nut is very rich in calories.

Capuchins understand what it takes, but they don't have the strength to crack the nut in one or two tries. Seems like they are expending more energy to crack the nut then they would gain, but I wouldn't know for sure.
@Victoria_200514 жыл бұрын
I would be highly surprised the energy expended to break the nut, is compensated by the calorific value of the nut. Do Capuchins have a output/input cognitive ability?

कोशिश करने वालों की हार नहीं होती ।
Capuchins understand what it takes, but they don't have the strength to crack the nut in one or two tries. Seems like they are expending more energy to crack the nut then they would gain, but I wouldn't know for sure.
I would be highly surprised the energy expended to break the nut, is compensated by the calorific value of the nut. Do Capuchins have a output/input cognitive ability?
