Grain tool is excellent. It gives a nice "structure" to the photographs I even add some grain to color images.

I've submitted a feature request at least once before to have grain available on a layer. The grain feature in capture one is OK, but still applies grain to the extremes of the grayscale, and my blacks end up with grain. This doesn't happen in a darkroom, whatever random grain is left in the clear areas of the film is completely filled in when the print is made. The best remedy here is to let us put it on a layer. I hoped that the feature "move background adjustments to new layer" was a hack to get around this, but you've outsmarted me there!

For finer control than the b&w sliders can provide, you can instead use the color editor. I don't use Lightroom anymore, but I actually really like the b&w control there because they have an orange slider which helps me tune skin tones a bit better when needed. The color editor gives the ultimate control. Color balance is good too. Really any color tool is useful, and many times I've used the white balance tool to make the final tweak. Never push a slider to the end, strange things can happen at the edges of objects.

I was given advice that you should not tick the diffraction box unless you see improvement in contrasty edges. What’s the harm?

The only harm is an increased Export time. Which is why its not on by default.

Excellent video, but ..... C1 one user for 8 years (editor over 20 years) what stands out to me that you almost don't use the shadow slider. To be honest that is the first slider I try, cause when you look at the train image, the wheels area in particular, it is almost totally black while pulling up the shadows, it will show some detail. Whilst doing that the blacks may become a bit lighter too but totally black can be adjusted by the black slider afterwards, or curves or levels. Same with the window areas in that "flat" shot from that village, there is some detail to gain. Especially when the dynamic range of the camera is not that good (and even though, cause I shoot with 15 stops DR) there is always something to recover. If you just go for contrast B/W all is forgiven of course and there is no right or wrong cause it is all a matter of taste. But since I do it my way, it was really noticeable you hardly touched that slider. Anyways , thanks for sharing guys.

I'd pretty much disagree with that. ;). I often use the Shadow slider when I feel it fits... without rewatching maybe it wasn't what I was looking for this time. But I totally agree, it's a great adjustment when needed. :) /David

I’m looking for Obi-Wan Kenobi who could help me. I’m wondering if in C1 there is “tool/shortcut “ which work like “L” key in Lightroom which shows pics without any toolbars…..Obi Wan You are my only hope
