CAPSULES | Animated Short

Фильм және анимация

My senior year thesis film at CCS.
I've never worked harder on something in my life. (-_-) zzz
In contrast to my junior film, which was a self-contained story, my senior film here, created entirely within 9 months, is a taste of something much greater. This is a film that takes place in a world, and with characters that I've been developing for years, I'm itching to show you more of it as soon as possible, but for the time being, I hope this serves as a nice introduction to the world of CAPSULES. My hope is that someday I'll get to show you these things and more on the big screen, as an animated series. I'm gonna make it happen one way or another, so I hope you look forward to it!
This was a massive undertaking that actually ended up ballooning by an entire minute, but I'm so so pleased with how all of our work for this project was able to come out (fun fact: this was my first time working with a voice actor!)
Give da guys some love.

I really love your works - both the animation style and the world you’ve built up. I’ve gotta know: do you take commissions? I’ve got a similar post-apocalypse world with robot people and megafauna that I’m trying to adapt into a game. Having the occasional pop-up tutorial or hint done by you would be greatly appreciated.

Okay having the character that is unsuspecting and seems to be prone to space out, be the heavy hitter of the two is genius. Edit: I know what a subversion is. the fact it's done with that character is smart and unique because everyone usually leaves that character type as written off as a liability or it comes in handy with puzzle type problems to subvert the dumb or airheaded original assumption.

@@Prismate it’s a different type of subversion than normal, usually you have a heavyset character be surprisingly competent in combat situations. I was just commenting on the unique take of subversion. Like you could go and tell me, “no duh it’s a banana,” but what I’m talking about is the fact that the banana is grown underground. Usually the airhead characters are subverted into being really good with puzzles locks or stuff like that, not rocket launch uppercuts.

A lot of times I feel like animations in particular don't get enough credit for how much passion and effort is behind them. This is amazing. The backgrounds were beautiful, the animation was fluid and expressive, the storyline was intriguing and the shots creative. Along with fitting compositing, you added high quality sound effects, voice acting; even had someone else make music specifically for this. The simple and yet recognizeable designs of your characters are very endearing as well; the props were great too. I loved watching your hard work and perserverance come together, huge respect! I'm very happy to have found something like this; I love this. It's just got such an authentic indie-animation vibe. Especially in some of the sound effects and the action shots, I can see the inspiration from other media practically ooze out of my screen! Thank you very much for the time you have put into this - it truly shows and I am looking forward to seeing what you'll create next. I wish you the best of luck in bringing forth the very real potential CAPSULES holds in the future, so reach for the stars and make it a reality! As an aspiring artist/animator, I admittedly envy your skill but things like this simultaneously show what great amounts of effort you put into perfecting your craft, which I find awesome! :)

I LOVE this! Every detail you need to know is conveyed simply and effectively through visuals or the single speaking character's simple, casual dialog. What are they looking for? The little capsule fellas, shown off just by the mental connection you make upon seeing them and the title. What are their personalities? Instantly able to tell via their body language, designs, and whether or not they speak or emote much. Why is the big robot so threatening, even ignoring its size? The conveniently pill-shaped USBs that immediately give you the impression of a dangerous and unstable drug/steroid user. And all that not even mentioning the art or animation itself!

God damn, I wish this was a full show. The animation, the visual designs, the sound designs, *EVERYTHING* about it is great. One of the things I can't help but gush over is the inclusion of sounds from other media, mainly games. From what I was able to determine, there's sound cues from Pokemon and Cave Story sprinkled into this (heck there's probably way more that I haven't identified), but the way it's used works *SUPER* well. If I ever try to dapple in animation, this is going to be one short that I take inspiration from.

Please keep doing things like this. I felt so respected as a viewer by the fact that you didn't cram exposition down my throat. I can figure out most of the stuff by viewing it and if I can't, it isn't the end of the world. It is amazingly well-drawn, the comedic timing is great, the animation is fluid, the character concepts are strong and I just love it. When he helps green by tugging him away from the fallen cable and ultimately fell down the hole it reminded me of some really old clip from an anime. I can't for my life remember which, but it isn't important. It just felt like one of those over-animated parts of a series that someone just poured their love into without having to do so. I live for that. Thank you, so much.

Oh I LOVEEE this, such good animation!!! I've never seen someone bring a character into frame like 0:35 but it makes so much sense!? I get the vibe you have a solid understanding of how to compose characters in a scene. Everything flowed from one frame to the next. Unique yet easy to understand concept as well. And the beeps and boops becoming music, wonderful music. This is all-around super well done on both a technical and artistic level.

0:11, absolutely love the little reference to Sleep Mode here. Had me smiling just seeing it. Amazing work as always! I would 100% love to see this thing get its own series. I sorta got some Adventure Time vibes watching and listening to the more calm parts and I'm all for it!

In all the short films I've watched over the past few years I don't think I've ever enjoyed one quite this much. I was already infatuated with it just by the thumbnail. Even though it's only 5 minutes there's so much amazing art and storytelling that I was completely in love with. I've always been one to desire short films becoming a popular series beloved by many, but this one certainly takes the cake as the one I believe deserves it the most. TL;DR: OH MY GOD I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THIS

I love everything about this film! The watercolor-esque backgrounds are beautiful, the humor made me chuckle every time, your characters are incredibly charming in design and personality, the music sets the mood perfectly, the fight scene was dynamic and fun, and the premise is simple yet gripping! Thank you all so much for working so hard and I'm so excited to see where this goes! Take care! ^^

Man cooked a Michelin star meal right here. This is just gorgeous, the animation is smooth, the jokes all land well, the motion of the scenes is fluid, this needs to be picked up by CN or something.
