Never heard a "regional" capoeirista say "My capoeira is better than capoeira angola" or an angoleiro say things like this. Maybe you have met the wrong people. Choose what fits you, everyone will do, who has the chance. That does not mean Angola or Regional or Miudinho is better. It means it fits them. There is no such thing as "better capoeira". So I share some of your ideas in this video.

thanks for you comment Capoeira Hungria! So you say: choose what fits you. I agree. Surely, in my opinion, there is no style better than the other. Yet, some people, maybe many people ;-) seem to have this as a topic for discussion. Yea, totally choose what people want to choose, and therefore, most likely, fits them best.

I just re-read your comment again, and have an additional thought: often times people don't literally say things but they think or feel it. This is also the with styles of capoeira. In the essence this is based on identity questions and feeling separated and the need for filling of that separation with temporarily identities. At least, this is my view. haha. 'I am better than you' in a even broader perspective also touches on competition. Also part of society. O.k. I should leave and make another video about this. haha. Thanks for your comment though!

Perhaps you have not spend much time with the real "Angoleiros". Thats why have not heard those kind of stupid things from them. Not here to generalize but you guy said he is right!

Wonder how much experience you have! No one who has significant experience would say they hadn't experienced these things. But long may you be free of it...if you go at all deeply into it you will experience it as sure as night follows day. At least your forewarned. Wish you well .

Capoeira's good fun. My school's real easy and open minded. We have our syllabus, but anything goes in the Roda. :)

I echoed what Capoeira Hungria said: choose what you like and study. And I add, if you do a historical background you will see that Mestre Bimba started the "Luta Regional Bahiana" in 1918 (100 years ago) up until then there was no "style" of Capoeira. He had already trained the same Capoeira that Mestre Pastinha learned but chose to do something different, separate from that current Capoeira. The Capoeiristas who didn't join Bimba (1918) choose then not to be " Regionais" and then chose to do the " Capoeira de Angola" and became Angoleiros(Second style to be organized). Conteporanea was a style name first said by Mestre Camisa student of Mestre Bimba, Who said "I am not following all the rules of neither Angola nor Regional, I am doing a 'Capoeira Conteporanea' which is a mix of Angola and regional." When you mix, Angola and regional , you are mixing it. Mestre Suassuna has a great song: Miudinho não é Angola, Miudinho não é Reginal. In the self same way: Conteporanea is not Angola, is not Regional. Conteporanea is conteporanea. Regional is Regional. Angola is Angola. There is over 100 years since the creation of the different styles brother. We must respect that history. There are differences in Angola and Regional, as well as differences in Contemporânea and Miudinho. They can always coexist. But are distinct. If you want to say that you practice 2 styles or 3 or 4 or more that's completely up to you. But Capoeira is Capoeira. No style is better than other. Every style is complete and stand on its own. You are not a half Capoeirista If you don't know more than one style. Choose what you want to practice and go for it. Ótimo vídeo meu camarada, aquele abraço.

thanks for your comment Marcelo. Yea, the styles exist. Can co-exist. Can all be helpful to learn. I think we all could go to a next level of experiencing capoeira if we think (and feel!) more out of one-ness. It's happening already in a way, I like to practice it more and more in my capoeira and life. makes me feel good ;-)

I´m currently writing a sports report about capoeira and I think what he says in the beginning, is a very important phyilosophical question he mentions. I would like to include you in my report lad. Can I mention your words with credit?

Do both. Just answering the question I haven't watched the video. Angoleiros usually claim you can't do both; its just a lie. Be a complete Capoeirista, don't be a slave to other peoples prejuidices and self imposed limitations unless thats your cupo de cha! As the ancients said: 'If you don't cast your net wide you wont catch many fish.' Good luck. Ps many people have never seen proper Angola 'pure' and to a lesser degree vica versa so when they talk its not based on anything! After a few years doing both properly, maybe studying one at a time who knows, including going to many pure and mixed meetings you know something about it thats it! If you mainly or only really know your own group you cant speak with understanding about capoeira more generally as in these threads. Also begginers mistakes are fairly but not entirely inevitable. Advice: If your a beginner better observe much say little...beware just taking on the views of others without discretion and discernment and finally after many years, experience....make it your own. Try to keep yourself mentally clean, there is a lot of pollution in the mundo de Capoeira, to do that you may need to keep your cards close to your chest...but my experience is many lap up the prejudice, competition and lies, will you or will you be more sensible? Its up to you! Life is choice. Save the Planet and Free Palestine.
