Capital One Venture X: The ULTIMATE TRAVEL CARD?

The Capital One Venture X credit card review for 2024 is here. Capital One Venture X had some slight changes to it's perks, but it might still be the best travel card on the market. The Venture X perks are great for travelers, and the yearly annual fee is very reasonable.

    Some additional noteworthy things: 1. The travel portal has always been more expensive for me when looking at flights but hotels seems to be competitively priced 2. Global entry includes tsa precheck 3. There’s no restaurant perks for the priority pass when you have it through the Venture X, unlike Chase sapphire reserve that supplies a $28 credit to certain airport restaurants on each travel day. 4. This is more specific but with the update to the $300 credit you can no longer easily get reimbursed for purchases made using your credit because it’s applied before checkout. This is a pain point for me as I fly at least twice a year and get reimbursed from my job for the cost.

  • @BirchFinance

    @BirchFinance

    8 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the added details! I've found the portal to be hit or miss in terms of competitive pricing. Even if its a touch more expensive, I might still just use points to keep the real cash in my pocket. Restaurant discounts were definitely a nice perk when I had the Chase Sapphire Reserve! Agreed, the change to a $300 "discount" is a bummer. I've found that over time, new credit cards start off with great perks and then begin to dial them back once they have a strong customer base.

    Awesome informative video! Is the Capital One 1 per 6 rule only includes 6 months between two application approvals? What if someone’s application was denied previously? Do they have to wait 6 months after the denial? Do Capital One transfer partners favor international flights more than domestic?

  • @BirchFinance

    @BirchFinance

    8 ай бұрын

    Glad you found it helpful! The 1 per 6 rule applies to applications regardless if you are accepted or denied. So, if denied you sill have to wait out the remainder of the 6 months before reapplying for ANY Capital One card. If you apply twice withing the same 6 month window, the 2nd application won't be processed. Hope that clarifies things - I should have been more clear in the video!

    I’d say a more accurate cost of lounge access is like 10 dollars because good luck finding a lounge that isn’t packed and not letting people in while you’re in the US. I’ve been to a few outside the US and it’s hit or miss. I got a couple sodas and a sandwich. So if I do that twice, maybe MAYBE it’s worth like 15 dollars. But 120 is insane. Not every single person goes to the airport ready to have a full meal. Most people im sure are coming either fed or getting a snack while they wait. I think this heavily skews the value you’re getting at the end.

  • @BirchFinance

    @BirchFinance

    8 ай бұрын

    Bummer that you're encountering lounges that are super crowded, certainly takes the joy out of the perk. Which airport? We can't forget that there is also an entry fee that gets waived that is not included in the $120 valuation. The good news is even if we drop the lounge valuation to $0, we still (BARELY) come out ahead with the $300 discount + 10,000 yearly miles ($100).

    Nice work! I have a score of 760+ and 10 revolving accounts, out of which 1 is a Macy's Amex card, 1 Amazon Chase card, 1 Dell's card. On February 2024 it'll be 1 year since I applied for a new card. When I checked if I am pre-approved a few days back, I got denied saying that I have too many revolving account. Any suggestions on how I can overcome this, since this year I am planing to travel a lot so really want this card.

  • @BirchFinance

    @BirchFinance

    6 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the note! I really hope the card works out for you given all the travel you say you're going to do. Perhaps after the full year goes by you'll be able to successfully re-apply. CapOne has a 6 month rule, so maybe that is what the issue is. If you try to apply for a card and you it hasn't been more than six months since your last application, it could be an auto-deny.

    You'd have to remove the longue access to call this conserative lol... As longue acess isn't guaranteed, if you consider the fact that your home airport/terminal or destination may not have a lounge you can access. Then you have to consider that getting in the lounge isn't a guarntee. Unless this was just a chart showing your personal value.

  • @BirchFinance

  • @BirchFinance

    I can’t speak to AMEX, but I have encountered problems changing flights with VX. The tradeoff for the good deal/points is a slight loss of flexibility. Flights can still be cancelled and changed, it’s just more cumbersome than when booking directly with the airline.
