Cape York Peninsula, a review of our trip and how the caravan held up on those roads!

This is part 2 of our Cape York trip. Where we take the van as far north as we can. We visit Thursday Island, check out some WWII plane wrecks, and visit Pajinka (The Tip). We visit the mining town of Weipa on the way back and give the van a good scrub.
We also review the trip and share what it was like spending 6 weeks on The Cape York Peninsula in a 23' caravan

    Just watched this and enjoyed your trip to Thursday Island. My father was based up there during WW 2 and that is where he met my mum who was born on the island. My husband and I have been enjoying watching your travels 🙂

    Just beautiful! The falls & you did a good job through the old tracks. How cooling & relaxing. The places you stayed & the tours you took were really worth the money. Filming has given you many memories to watch later on in life. Wishing you safe travels Elaine from Brisbane.

    That set of traffic lights would of been for the haul road trucks, there would of been cameras somewhere there too.

    We have a celfi but found that it doesn't boost data download very much. It is great for mobile phone reception. We have recently bought a product called XPOL which is a high gain panel antenna. Only tested it once, so far, and it seems to do a reasonable job. We actually met someone in Seisia who had one and he said it was good. We hope to do a video on our phone & internet challenges and solutions very soon.

    Thanks for the videos - awesome. I am travelling from Sydney to cape with a semi Offroad van in July 23 - based on your experience where would be the best place to store the van before the rough stuff starts?

  • @beyondthegreyoz

    @beyondthegreyoz

    Good question but tough to answer as the condition varies throughout the season and depends if it has been graded recently. It's probably best to ask at places along the way for current condition. There are 3 or 4 places that you could leave your van. 1 Hann River Roadhouse, 2 Archer River, 3 Morton Telegraph Station and 4 Bramwell Station. A lot of people left their vans at Bramwell so they could freely do the OTT and because they had enough of the corrugations. Hope that was helpful Cheers

    Did you have any problems with your bike carrier on the rough tracks? What sort of carrier did you use and what towns did you get them out for a ride? We have push bikes but have never taken them away with us.

  • @beyondthegreyoz

    We had no problem at all with the bike carrier. It is a Grip Sport 2 bike carrier. We didn't get them off the van except in Cooktown at the start. There were places we could've got them down but just never got round to it
