Bell UH-1H (Bell 205) / ZU-ELP
Cape Town Helicopters
Departure: Cape Town Waterfront Heliport (FADW), South Africa
Arrival: Cape Town Waterfront Heliport (FADW), South Africa
Date: 21th September 2013 / Seat: N/A
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cape Town Helicopters' UH-1H registered as ZU-ELP is seen operating a pleasure flight from Cape Town Waterfront Heliport (FADW) and performing some low level flying maneuvers. The flight took place on September 21st, 2013. Apologies for the audio quality, my camera surrendered due to the extreme flapping noise of the dual-blade rotor... and sorry for the yelling fellow passengers.

Thanks for keeping the engine sound 🔉 with no music added. One of the finest US products ever been made. Really , love this iconic machine. 😍😍
The best dam Helicopter The U.S. Army ever had . saved my butt in Vietnam .
The pilot knows exactly what he is doing. It's very obvious the helicopter is capable of these maneuvers. Just ask any Vietnam Huey pilot or read Chickenhawk by Robert Mason

For Vietnam helicopter books I recommend Taking Fire by Ron Alexander, and Guts and Gunships by Mark Garrison. Both excellent. Chicken hawk was a great book ,too.

I wish I could convince my dad to record some of his stories on tape. It’s insane what that bird could do if you pushed it hard. Including going inverted. He flew Huey gunships out of Phan rang 70-71.

Love it
That looks exihlirating. My cousin was a Huey pilot WO1 with 159th med. det. during Vietnam (1970-71) and said that flying at treetop level when necessary was the most exciting and scary thing.
This is an excellent presentation of NOE (Nap of Earth) flying, that we were taught in U.S. Army flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. I have over 33,000 flight hours, and am an Experimental Test Pilot, Maintenance Test Pilot, Instructor Pilot, Safety Officer, Aircraft Accident Investigator and former logging pilot, Seismic Exploration pilot, and Aerial Application pilot, just to name a few, and found this pilot to be well trained and qualified at what he demo'd in the video.

BEST HUEY RIDE I'VE SEEN IN A WHILE...
The man knows his helo.
Beautiful ride! Takes me back to the countless rides taken during my time in Uniform. I'd volunteer for anything to get another ride, hot or not, as a Corpsman. Got shot down twice and one breakdown in enemy territory . Took many rides twenty feet under slung to the cargo hook or down the Hell Hole on the CH 46/47. Worth it every time. Just one more ride! Thanks for this video!

Excellent airmanship. I love watching these birds flown the way their makers designed them.
The magic moment when the needles move into the green zone and the RPM limit light goes out.. let's fly baby!
I had a Vietnam flashback after watching that.1 like from me an yes its not every day flying but that is what,s so cool about it.That pilot knows what hes doing.
Damn. The sound of the Huey never gets old. And the pilot? I will fly with him any day.
Great pilot, great video! That Huey looks brand new and shiny! Love it!
Awesome to see the Huey's point of view at low level!

Nothing like the feeling when the pilot rolls open the throttle and begins pulling in the power and the rotor blades start cutting into the air. The sounds of turbine, rotors and vibration of the ship as it becomes light on the skids. The ride begins. The army would train pilots to take off and land a huey then send them to Vietnam where they learned to fly a huey. An awesome aircraft!!
Fantastic Huey flight video, my favorite. Awesome rotor sounds, open door, maneuvering, scenery, and treetop level flying. some of the best footage ive seen. seeing your shadow at 8:40 is amazing
I had a flashback flying on dustoff (Medevac) helicopters back in the day. Love the Huey. Still gives me chills to see and hear it.
The engine noise and the spectacular view are awesome! How i wish someone could let me ride a huey helicopter before i die. Not any helicopter but only a huey.

Me too
Great flying by the pilot. Looked like a really fun flight. Don't listen to everyone who thinks it's unsafe. I have been working and flying on helicopters for 15 years. Those are normal maneuvers in that type of helicopter. By the way, my experience is with Bell 412's, 205's, V-22's, UH-1Y's, AH-1Z's, EH101's, and CH-46E's.
THAT'S the way to fly! That is some good ole NOE flying there! Very well done!
My dream😍love this legendary helo... and that sound is so great
Nuthing like a hundred and twenty knots at the tree line lol

The great old machine doing the great old maneuvers. Thanks for posting...
Wow. Super pilot and great footage. Flying in to a hot LZ, skimming the surf (Charlie don't), and some incredible emergency banking maneuvers. Fantastic.
This is such a simple helicopter. Lack so many frill of the new current birds. I love the addictive sounds. Glass packs in the air to my old damaged ears. Plant me in the open door please SIR!
The sea, looks like heaven. Nice and blue. Love the low level flying. Thanks for the video.

I lived there for 40 years. The water is damn cold and there are big sharks in the water. Dived those waters in the military and after. Absolutely awesome
Spectacular video..thanks for sharing..100 percent awesome.
Best definition of a helicopter..."a flying wreck looking for a place to happen" and/or "5,000 moving parts waiting a critical one to fail".
Saigon Vietnam 1968
I did this in september 2015,it was superb,it was a simulated combat mission after all,the pilots are skilled, and yes it is scary, but I did not feel my life was in danger,I hope it continues to give people this Vietnam style experience for a long time to come.
I've done this trip. Absolutely mind blowing and according to the book, well within safe operating parameters.
Wow!!! Absolutely amazing!!! 😍 this is on my bucket list in life. 👌
Thanks for the ride. Awesome pilot
I flew years later, made me so appreciate the simplicity of the Chopper 😎
...LOVE THE ROBUST POWER OF THE HUEY....No Chopper DID More For the U.S.Marines-Army Than the CLASSIC Sound and Shape of the HUEY....A WORKHORSE LIKE NO OTHER..
Friggen AWESOME !!! UH-1's were made for those maneuvers. Must have been a blast :)
awesome!!! thanks for the ride!!!
What a RIDE!!! Way to fly!! Thxs for sharing it!
I was going to comment but i gotta go change my pants 👀 He is an amazing pilot. A man and his machine 👌🏾

Very nice 👍 flight and cerfully , God blasts . 🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋
Woo-hooo! I got to get myself to South Africa, to experience this Platoon (the movie) style flying! Awesome!
Man that looks like one hell of a good time!
Got too love the Huey .. “I love the smell of Gasoline in the morning “ ✌️ He’s crazy man 💋
That was his check ride for private pilot license.... LOL ;-) nice flying. Great job!
Brilliant,on my must do list. What a Pilot, looked like he was asking "Has everybody shit ya pants yet or do i need to go harder?" Great video.
An amazing video, and excitingly fun looking flight!
One of my best pilot I have ever seen
that was an awesome awesome video. great shots with very little shake. good job guys. this video is going on my "favorites"
love this vid...love this Stuff. nice Greetings Fred Connor
Fun flight, thanx!
Excellent Job from the Pilots....I'm Very Sure that The Ride brought Back Many Hard Memories of Nam..🌹🌹😑😞👍👍🙏
Geez that was amazing! Just to watch!
It reminds me the first time I fly in an helicopter! It was in 1970, on the atool Hao (French Polynesia), my colonel allows me with two more soldier, to fly round the atoll with a young leutnant whose job was to spread insecticids over the island. It was terrific, because he flies 5-10 meters over the coconut trees, climbing suddenly when one was higher, and finish by a "quasi- wing over" front of the control tower, where I use to be a controller! After the fly, the colonel ask him not to reproduce this, even when alone in the chopper! It was an "Alouette II", a good old french helico.
Ruins the ambience with the silly noises coming from the back.

Pilots still have the touch!
90 percent of pilots these days flying old work horses as UH1's mare ex military. I started in a UH1-B and I must say these are one of the most stable machines in the sky. DUNCAJCB.....you think this was a stupid stunt by the pilot...let me take you up and do some good ole tree topping and to make it more interesting...I'll strap you on the skid.

nah, just barrel role the ship. (i didnt watch the entire clip, retards in the back kinda took away from the engine) I used to barrel role the 212 in combat in 'Nam. gotta test the stability of these ships cause we never know what's gonna come flyin at us from the dirt

@@paulrichardevo over here in the U.S. many of us call the Huey the Harley Davidson of helicopters lol . They are just 100% b.a. ! I just wish I had the 500k to buy an airworthy one ha .... lots of oppurtinities for rides in one tho . If you like to read . Check out the book by Robert Mason " Chickenhawk" about his experiences flying them in Nam . My close friend in 173rd made 4 jumps out of them over there , his emotions are profound when he hears one . Cheers from Texas .

Video takes me back 50 years when i was flying door gunner on hueys in Vietnam. Nothing like a good pilot and a huey. Its absolutely amazing and a ride you will never forget. To this day the sound of a huey will instantly have my attention. An awesome flying machine.
Oh no i really enjoy it.nice cameraman.
Are you kidding ? Could not be better. Thank you.
Love the sound of blades..
Fantastic!!!! Great Pilot!!!!
Brilliant, I have been on this flight a long time ago , never forget it , ace pilot, one with the machine. Dangerous why? Huey's are meant to fly like this.
Did this flight more than 10yrs ago .... Super Awesome Fun .... we were seated in the Gunner Chair 💪🏻
This reminds me of one of my first flights in a Huey. Pilot was ex army.
Great sound Huey!!Pilot skill - steel balls)))
The UH-1H, the mythical and wonderful machine !
First of all let me say that gentleman really knows how to massage a Huey, second of all I love the sound those rotors make while they're passing through the air no other sound like it, it says I'm a Huey helicopter.
I love it while the chief skims over the water.
Amazing Video I loved it!
Oh! All the helicopter pilot experts have come to have their say!

Fantastic Flight! :)
The brutality of war and egos aside, and what this tool of war and egos has helped to inflict around the world, an amazing machine. And a great flight. Made me think too of our Troopies in the Rhodesian bush war.
Now that I'm old, I sure do miss NOE flying and the sound of the Huey rotor blades.
Eh si...! Mi ricordo quando nei territori ostili il volo tattico era essenziale per la sopravvivenza. Comunque spettacolo! Adrenalina pura!!!
There are UH-1's Hueys that has twin engines.Bell Helicopter started building UH-1N's Hueys in the late 1970's if I'm not mistaking. The Air.Force,Marine Corps, and Navy have them. The Marines are upgrading their entire fleet of UH-1N'S to the UH-1S series. Any of you Marines out there, correct me if I'm wrong. The US Army chose the UH-60 Blackhawk instead of the UH-1N, because the UH-60 Blackhawk can carry a 11-man infantry sqad.Other than that, I think the army would have stayed with the UH-1Hueys because they served with distention in Vietnam.
That looks awesome
That was freakin cool!
Fly by like in Vietnam- awesome:)
Wow..Flash Back from the seventies..KMCAS..Kay Bay,Hawaii
Friggin AWESOMEEE!!!
ooooooooo, the red, white and blueee!
5:33 min nice sound. I love it
Geiler Sound 👍👍👍
Waouhh quel vol,c'est autre chose que du 3D en trainer,ça c'est de l'hélico,ce 205 il est bon quand même
This UH-1 are heavy beasty machines. They are really well made specially the H version with the 1100HP engine, a lot of lift power + maneuverability. Great machines.
What a experience amazing 👍
It looks great :)
Great pilot!
thats some awesome skill!!
Beautiful sound...😎😎😎
ohhhh... how i love that sound...chap..chap...chap...
Sure sounded like his passengers were having a blast!
OMG That looks like such fun...
Love it!
